The Epistle to the Romans or Letter to the Romans, often shortened to Romans, is the sixth book in the New Testament. Biblical scholars agree that it was composed by the Apostle Paul to explain that salvation is offered through the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the longest of the Pauline epistles and is often considered his "most important theological legacy." Sundays, 11:00 a.m. Class Luther and the Protestant Reformation Learn more about this complex and conflicted monk, Martin Luther. This seminar, taught by Elder Kathy Lohff, surveys his life and theology, the movements which laid the groundwork for the Reformation, and the enduring legacy of Luther s actions and writings. Class meets in room 208. Wednesdays, 12:00 p.m. Class Pastor s Bible Study Join Dr. Susan DeWyngaert as we consider each of the scripture readings in advance of the Sundays when they will be presented in worship, thus giving us a new understanding of scripture, and enhancing our worship experience. So far, 17 people have committed to this pilgrimage. Another half dozen are considering joining up. We encourage all interested parties to consider joining us. You don't have to be a member of Woods Church to come with us. In fact, several people who may join the pilgrimage are not Woods members. They come from all different parts of the country--from Louisville, Kentucky, to Phoenix, Arizona, to Las Vegas, Nevada. This promises to be a truly transformative experience. Our pilgrimage will focus, of course, on visiting the many sites that our Lord Jesus Christ frequented, from His childhood and early ministry in the northern Galilee District of modern Israel, to various sites where he preached His gospel, to His crucifixion in Jerusalem. But, we also be spending time and staying overnight with contemporary Christian Palestinian families in Israel and Palestine as well as meeting with Jewish Israelis to better understand their views on coexistence with their Palestinian neighbors. Those who have gone on previous pilgrimages speak in the highest terms of how this experience fundamentally changed their lives and outlook. If you have an interest in joining us, we encourage you to contact Bill or Beth Hadley at or billhdly@verizon.net. Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church 16

17 The annual Advent and Christmas exhibit in the Woods Gallery features art by members of the wider community as well as Woods Church. The Gallery is a ministry designed to acknowledge, inspire and encourage the creativity that is inherent in all humankind as a gift from God. We reach out to artists throughout the region and have discovered a richness of talent and significant accomplishment whether the artist pursues art as a part-time avocation or as a professional. 18 Holiday Bazaar 2017 It is hard to express thanks to people who not only give money, but give of themselves every week of the year to make Woods Church a haven and a true sanctuary for all. On Saturday, November 18, a dedicated army of people worked at our Holiday Bazaar to support Mission Projects at Woods. Saturday was the end of a month long list of jobs PWOW had to accomplish to make sure everyone had what they needed to set up on Thursday and Friday. Tom Lerario actually took a child's battery operated car donated for the Silent Auction, home, put it together, and then met with the grandparent who purchased it to share all the details for Santa. Pam Ward worked tirelessly publishing articles she was bombarded with. Carolyn supported Verna as she led all the lunch details. The White Elephant leaders (Liz, Doug, Nancy and Pete) did a yeoman's job in Zimmerman spending three full days sorting through the astounding amount of wonderful things donated for that sale by all of YOU. Carrying boxes of books is backbreaking. The stage and book room were stacked six high with no place to make a path by Thursday night. (Thank you congregation!) The Silent Auction had ultra expensive items donated for the sale so we had people selling some of the items on Ebay and Craig's List because we simply could not put it all out. I cannot begin to name all the people who headed and actually worked the different shops within the bazaar, but I will say this: The average age of people listed as working on the Bazaar was 67 years old, and we all pretended we were 30 again. Wendy Bogarde, a PWOW Member and working mother, is in the process of developing a survey that will help us evaluate this year's bazaar and organize the bazaar for next year. In order to report our feedback in a timely manner, we will be asking the congregation to fill it out and return it the same day, Sunday, December 17. (It will be inside your church bulletin. Drop it in the basket at the visitor's desk in the front Lobby.) We have faith in your willingness to help us have the Best Bazaar possible for the sake of Mission. I am so grateful for Karen Strange, my co-chair this year (her 17th year leading the Bazaar!), for the PWOW Board and their faithful work and dedication to this event every year, AND A VERY SPECIAL Thanks to the REHABBERS, headed by 99 Year old Charlie Phelps, who set up all the tables and chairs on Thursday, and then took them all down and put them away again on Saturday. The Bazaar was a great success and we thank all who helped. All the funds will be used to help those in need. We are a Blessed congregation. Giving is what we do best. Merry Christmas to all. The purpose of this motion is to create dual controls and provide cross training for the entire administrative function of the church. Heard the Investment Committee report. Decided to designate the Thanksgiving Offering to the Cecelia McKay Fund. Voted to hire Ministry Architects to assist in the search for our new Director of Youth and their Families.
