2 Come! The Revelation of Jesus Christ In February, 2017, we began a study of Revelation by Max Lucado, called, Final Curtain Call. This study is currently being read and discussed by two different small groups, St. Barnabas and our adult G.R.O.W. small group. The last book in our Bible ends with these words from Revelation 22:20-21 that say, He who testifies to these things says, Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord, Jesus be with God s people. AMEN. This study has generated some very interesting discussions based on readings from a very complex and symbolic book of the Bible. In spite of all of the symbols and picturesque imagery found in Revelation, there is a very simple overall message in this last book: Hope for ALL Mankind because of who Jesus Christ was and is and is to come! From one of Max Lucado s other books, he writes: In fact, it seems God s favorite word is come. God is a god who invites. Max lists several examples from the gospels. God is a god who calls us and opens the door, pointing us to His table. This invitation is not just for a meal, though, it for life itself! Max puts it this way: An invitation to come into His kingdom and take up residence in a tearless, graveless, painless world. Who can come? Whoever wishes. The invitation is at once universal and personal. Currently, our small groups are reading from the first few chapters of Revelation, where Jesus Christ is instructing John to write to the seven churches of the world. This beginning shows that our God is both personal and universal!
3 Therefore, His message of Hope is both personal and universal! In this last chapter of Revelation, chapter 22:17, Jesus tells John, The Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let the one who hears say, Come! Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. You may not have ever read the book of Revelation. Or maybe, you have read it and do not understand it or are confused by some of its imagery! That is ok, because we are not even certain that John, the author, understood anything except the unmistakable message of hope for us! Today, does the thought of the end of this world make you afraid, uncertain, excited, nervous, full of anticipation or full of peace? The disciple, John, was given the opportunity to preview the end of the world in a vision directly from God. He saw the final battle of good and evil, God s justice, and our assured victory and celebrations. What should this mean for us? The promise of the end of this world should change the ways in which we live each day. Our lives should reflect the anticipation, comfort, and peace of His hope given to us. Here are some services that you can attend during Holy Week: April 9 th April 13 th April 20 th Palm Sunday, 10am Matthew 21: The Royal Welcome Maundy Thursday, 7:30pm John 13: Up to Something!
