Classes are in Under Six Classrooms A and C. Godly Play Children in Kindergarten and 1 st grade gather in the Ruth Christie Room to learn the language of God s people through sacred space, stories, parables and liturgical actions. You may pick up your children in Under Six Classroom C. Hebrew Scouts Children in grades 2 and 3 will become Hebrew Scouts, experiencing the stories of the Israelite people. 3 WORSHIP NOTES The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given by Teresa Lunardi and Robin Rosser to the glory of God and in memory of dear friend Wally Johnson, whose 90th birthday would have been April 25, The Lord s Supper is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at both services. Sanctuary Flowers - Consider giving the flowers for Sunday worship to remember or honor loved ones or to celebrate an event, while expressing praise and thanksgiving to God. Please contact Linda Watson during business hours at or lwatson@ycst.com. Available dates are May 27, June 3 and 24. Worship Resources You may obtain large print hymnals and hearing devices from any usher. Worship bags for children ages 3-6 include a children s bulletin designed for that age. Also, children s bulletins for ages 7-12 are available from the ushers. Are you wearing a nametag? Whether you are a long-time member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. You will find nametags and markers in baskets at all major entrances. CONGREGATIONAL CARE AND PRAYER Please remember in your prayers: Those recently hospitalized: Thomas Eliason. Westminster s homebound family who can no longer attend worship with us by sending a card, saying a prayer, or visiting. This week we ask you to remember Lois Rogers, 3102 Greenbriar Lane, West Grove, PA and Jack Remsen, Methodist Country House, HC 3844, 4830 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE Our brothers and sisters in worldwide ministry in Guatemala, Kenya, Congo, West Africa, Mozambique and Israel/Palestine. Westminster s Covenant Prayer Group prays weekly for specific needs of the faith community. Anyone may submit a prayer request by leaving a confidential message on , ext. 335, or filling out a prayer request card (in the pew pocket) and placing it in the offering plate. Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. 10 Jungle John s Reptile Show Join us in Community Hall at 10:10 a.m. for a fun encounter with some wild creatures! John LaMedica, also known as Jungle John, will be our guest to educate and entertain with his remarkable reptile show. We will meet a 5-½ foot American alligator, and a 12-foot albino Burmese python, in addition to more than a dozen other reptile and amphibian friends. Christianity s Family Tree: What Other Christians Believe and Why by Adam Hamilton. Facilitator: Jill Getty Through May 20 in the Meeting Room This Morning: Lutheranism and Presbyterianism Hamilton will teach us about other Christian denominations and faith traditions including Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Anglicanism, Baptists, Pentecostalism and Methodism. Hamilton believes that each denomination has unique and valuable insights to offer our Christian faith as a whole. In each lesson he gives a brief history, outlines major beliefs, and recognizes what we can learn to enhance our own faith. Adam is Senior Pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. He was named by PBS s Religion and Ethics Newsweekly as one of the Top Ten People to Watch and he has written several books. Congratulations to the Class of 2012! We will recognize those graduating from high school, college or graduate school in 2012 in our bulletin on Sunday, June 10. 11 UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE CHORALE IN CONCERT AT WESTMINSTER Friday, May 4, at 8:00 p.m. We are pleased and excited to welcome back the UD Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Paul Head, for their annual performance here at Westminster. This year s program promises to be another stunning offering of sacred and secular works, including a selection of rousing spirituals. The UD Chorale is among the most highly regarded college choirs in the eastern United States. Among their many honors and achievements, they have performed at both regional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and in 2007 won the first place Grand Prix award at the Tallinn International Choral Competition in Estonia. This summer they have been invited to perform at the International Society for Music Education World Conference in Thessaloniki, Greece, as well as to compete at the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition and Folklore Festival in Debrecen, Hungary. (These kids get around!) Needless to say, this will surely be a spectacular don t miss event, as well as a great bring your friends opportunity. Admission is free, and an offering will be received. ~ Also on the same night ~ Art Exhibit opening at 6:30 p.m. In conjunction with Wilmington s monthly art loop event, Art on the Town, Westminster will also host an art exhibit featuring paintings by Wilmington artist Donna Teleis, whose paintings capture the amazing variety of colors in the world around us. Anyone up for a Sunday afternoon stroll through beautiful gardens, with an organ concert to boot? Paul Fleckenstein will perform in concert on the magnificent and newly restored pipe organ in the conservatory ballroom at Longwood Gardens today at 1:00 p.m. The one-hour program will feature music in a wide variety of styles to exploit as fully as possible 9 the vast tonal resources of this historic instrument, which consists of more than 10,000 pipes.
