Booking is now open for the Winterval Express Train, Santa s Grotto, Waterford on Ice, Snowglobe, the Horse-Drawn Sleigh and the Exploration Dome. A Welcome from Keith Barry I was very honoured when asked to be this years Waterford Winterval Ambassador. Being my home town I am proud to see how everyone in the city has come together to make such a magical Christmas Festival. With over 30 attractions many of them free, Waterford s Winterval Christmas festival is a must see this year. See horse drawn sleighs, a magical Christmas trail through the city, a vintage ferris wheel or a visit to Santa in the beautiful medieval museum. Waterford is so easy to get to these days with a drive time of 1 hour 30 minutes from Dublin, or why not take the train. I have planned a very special performance in the city on the 29th of November and I hope you can join me to experience this once in a lifetime magical experience. See you at Waterford s Winterval! The streets of Waterford will be transformed into a traditional Christmas marketplace, with the spectacular Winterval Illuminates as its backdrop. You ll find food stalls serving hot delicious treats and will discover a beautiful array of handcrafted items from Waterford s talented craft designers as you wander through the stalls in search of that perfect Christmas gift. Santa s Grotto at The Medieval Museum The Medieval Museum 15 (Children Only) Santa has once again chosen our beautiful Medieval Museum to meet all the boys and girls who visit Winterval. See the elves hard at work before meeting Mrs Claus and receiving a special gift from Santa himself. Take a magical walk around The Polar Bear Garden created by the Grow Project. From a cosy viewing area, watch the polar bears and their babies playing on a snow covered glacier. The garden has very special powers where it snows everyday. 9 Winterval Illuminates Lightshow and Winterval Jeopardy Cathedral Square nightly 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm Our most popular event returns again this year bigger and better thank ever. Thousands of visitors experience this wonderful fun free event. It is a definite must see this year again with lots of extra surprises in this years show. Saturday, November 29 (please check Winterval.ie and local press for times) Come and join Keith Barry, our Winterval Ambassador for 2014, and witness a spectacular performance. This one off, unique event created by Keith will be a magical entertainment experience for all the family. New to this year s Winterval Illuminates show is Winterval Jeopardy, a national primary school initiative, where children have taken part in this family game show favourite. Competition Winners will feature as part of this year s lightshow.

No bookings necessary. Penguins at the Palace Bishop s Palace, The Mall Open all day, everyday from November 21 to December 23 The cute Penguin has found a new home in Waterford this winter! A must see, the Penguins at the Palace, is the latest winter wonderland garden to be created by the students of The Grow Project. Come and visit these playful characters as they chill out in their cozy igloo, toboggan on ice and fish for their tea. It s all happening at the Bishops Palace so pop over and say hello to Winterval s new feathered friends.

12 Rotary Club Tree John Robert s Square Entry November 21 to December 23 For 17 years the Rotary Club of Waterford Memorial Christmas Tree has been central to Christmas in Waterford. Most have been touched by the wonderful work Waterford Hospice does in our community and Christmas is such an important and appropriate time to thank and reward them. The generosity of the public each year is astounding. It is that generosity that makes this appeal such a success every year. South Pole Enchanted Garden at New Street New Street Garden Visit the beautiful winter wonderland garden in the heart of Waterford city. Visit our enchanted garden and be enthralled by the decorative floral archways, giant candy cane sticks and atmospheric Christmas lighting as you walk around. Singing Christmas Tree Palace Square Palace Square An essential part of any Christmas festival has to be listening to a choir sing! So why not come along to hear some of Ireland s choirs sing as part of the Winterval Festival on the Singing Christmas Tree.

This timeless tale and the most favorite of all fairy tales is jam-packed with music, dance fun and laughter. WAMA Princesses and Superhero parade John Robert s Square Each Saturday - Sunday from 29th November at 2.45pm A wonderful opportunity for children to be a part of this year s Winterval festival and walk in our princess and superhero parade. Please join us with the WAMA performance group to enjoy the parade and truly be part of the festival. Our friends at Hasbro have kindly donated a small gift for everybody who takes part in the parade. All those in princess or superhero outfits will receive a gift.

14 Municipal Gallery & Craft Workshops Greyfriars Church Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout festival, 12-6pm The Eye of a Child - is your child a Michaelangelo in the making? Get them to colour in, create and exhibit their own version of one of our famous artworks and bring it home. Waterford scenes by Terry Murphy, Waterford s famous Municipal Collection, a selection of faces and places by Annie Brophy & News, muse and views - a look at the topical and inspiring. Copies of all pictures on the first floor are for sale. Marvel Spiderman Exhibit Greyfriars Church Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout festival, 12-6pm Irish artist, Will Sliney, is enjoying swinging success as he draws the latest instalment in the iconic Spider-Man series for Marvel comics. This exhibition features new artwork from the new series, which tells the story of a Spider-Man of the future who has been thrown back in time to our present. 15 Late Night Winterval Club Noc Noc, The Reg, The Mall, Waterford Thursday and Sunday: Free Friday and Saturday: 5.00 from 10pm till late. Noc The Reg are hosting the Late Night Winterval Club every night of Winterval from 10pm till late. Enjoy the best local and regional bands such as Thank Funk, No Hot ashes, The Usual Suspects and Newfoundland play till late along with our resident DJ Shay Searson. With 6 bars under one roof, a festive fun night is guaranteed. Yule Viking Settlement New Street 12-4pm daily Fadó have recreated a vibrant Viking settlement filled with the sights and sounds (and some of the smells!) of authentic Viking life. It s the closest you ll get to life as a Viking! Polish Christmas at Michael Street Michael Street Entry Opening times Friday & Saturday 12-8pm Sunday 1-6pm, all other days 12pm - 6pm Craft Market offering a range of unique pieces of fashion and home ware. Using techniques like crocheting, knitting, silk painting, decoupage, soutache. Jewelery, beeswax candles, portraits, illustrations. Ginger bread man 8 per person,starting every hour for 60 minutes. Dough working, rolling, cutting shapes, baking and decorating. Selection of Polish Christmas foods and cakes offered.

16 How to get to Winterval BY CAR: From Dublin, take the N7 and exit for the M9 all the way to Waterford. Travel time 1 hour 30 mins. BY TRAIN: Please see below details of how to get to Winterval by train. Our train station is only 5 minutes walk away from the festival. BY BUS: There are frequent bus services to Waterford City Centre. Visit Buseireann.ie or JJKavanagh.ie BY AIR: Waterford Airport is only 20 minutes from the city centre and services Birmingham direct with Flybe and additional onward connection destinations. BY SEA: The ferry ports of Cork, Rosslare, Dun Laoghaire, and Dublin are within easy travel distances to Waterford City. We are delighted to have Iarnród Eireann Irish Rail on board as our travel partner for It is now easier and more convenient for all the family to visit Winterval. FROM DUBLIN: Trains for Winterval Waterford will depart form Heuston station Dublin. The train journey takes just over 2 hours. Please see for traintimes. WINTERVAL SPECIAL SERVICE: A special Winterval carriage service departs Heuston Station at am every Saturday morning and returns at 18.20hrs. A special car parking rate of 5 is available when booking a winterval train package. Please visit our bookings pages on FROM CLONMEL / CARRICK ON SUIR: Winterval Waterford is easily accessible from Clonmel and Carrick on Suir Stations. A special late train will operate departing Waterford at 20.40PM on Friday and Saturday evenings from the 28th of November to Saturday 20th December. Additional Services will run between Waterford & Clonmel/Carrick on Suir during the festival.
