2 Old Testament Reading...Job 38:1-11 The incredible miracle of creation demonstrates God s incomparable power and wisdom, as Paul says in Romans 1:20: Since the creation of the world, God s invisible qualities His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made. Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: Who is this that darkens My counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. Where were you when I laid the earth s foundation? Tell Me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt? Epistle Reading... 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 Christians are ambassadors to all the world from Christ Himself, announcing the Good News: God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not counting men s sins against them. 3 For Christ s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, and therefore all died. He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him, who died for them and rose again. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not counting men s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. After the reading: P O Lord, have mercy on us. C Thanks be to God. Holy Gospel... Mark 4:35-41 At times we may feel like the disciples, who exclaimed, Lord, don t You care? Just as Jesus calmed the storm that frightened them, He will calm the storms in our lives. That day when evening came, He said to His Disciples, Let us go over to the other side. Leaving the crowd behind, they took Him along, just as He was, in the boat. There were also other boats with Him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The Disciples woke Him and said to Him, Teacher, don t You care if we drown? He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Quiet! Be still! Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to His Disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him! In his anguish and affliction, Job must be reminded that, as a finite creature, he is in no position to question the Maker of the heavens and the earth. Job s words without knowledge are unable to penetrate the wisdom of the Lord (Job 38:1-2). For the Lord has prescribed limits and set bars and doors, so that here shall your proud waves be stayed (Job 38:9-11). That s how He humbles us unto repentance. But also by His powerful Word He calms the great windstorm and the waves breaking into the boat. He does not permit the chaos of this fallen world to overwhelm us or bring us to despair. By the Word of His Gospel, He speaks Peace to us, which bestows the great calm of His love (Mark 4:37-39). PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP O God, because Your abiding presence always goes with us, keep us aware of Your daily mercies that we may live secure and content in Your eternal love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. BUILDING UPDATE Progress continues on our Building Addition and Modernization Project, with the block walls for the first floor of the addition being erected, and the attractive new ceiling and lighting in the basement Fellowship Hall being installed. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during construction! NEW PORTALS OF PRAYER The new quarterly issue of the devotional booklet Portals of Prayer for July thru September is being passed out this morning. Copies are available in standard size, large print, and digest size (same size as Reader s Digest). A great way to keep close to the Lord! JULY COMMUNION CHANGE Because of the outdoor Service in the Shelter House on July 1, Holy Communion in July will be celebrated on the second Sunday of the month, July 8, rather than our usual summer schedule of the first Sunday of the month. 8 BLOCK WALKERS THANK YOU A big thank you to all members of our Block Walkers team for your hard work and dedication again this year for the Miami County Relay for Life. As a team, we raised an incredible and amazing $8,045! Many thanks to all of you who helped with the campsite, and special thanks to our men s chorus for singing Take Me Out to the Relay, which was a great addition to the baseball-themed event! Thanks also to those who donated and purchased items at the silent auction. The silent auction this year was one of the best, earning nearly $2,500. Our team s baskets were wonderful and our baskets alone brought an incredible $918! Thank you to all the Block Walkers for another wonderful year! OUTDOOR WORSHIP AND POTLUCK PICNIC NEXT SUNDAY We will celebrate Independence Day at an outdoor Service in the Shelter House next Sunday, July 1, at the regular time of 10:00am. Pastor Vogts message will be Render to God and Caesar based on Mark 12: The special order of worship will include a children s sermon and favorite patriotic songs. Following the service there will be a potluck picnic lunch for those who wish to stay. Please bring a main dish, side dish or dessert. Drinks and table service will be provided. This is a great opportunity to invite family, neighbors, friends, and holiday visitors for worship! All invited everyone welcome! Page 7

9 ROYALS GAME JULY 20 Everyone is invited to join the Trinity Youth for a Kansas City Royals game at Kaufmann Stadium on Friday, July 20 at 7:15pm against the Minnesota Twins. It will be Summer Fireworks & Buck Night! The cost is $15 per ticket (must reach 20 ticket minimum) and parking is $12 if purchased in advance, $15 cash at the gate. Sponsored by the Trinity Youth for the whole congregation, family, friends everyone is invited! Let Youth Director Janette Reinke know how many tickets and parking passes you need. VOTERS ASSEMBLY AND CHURCH COUNCIL The quarterly meeting of the Voters Assembly will be held following worship on Sunday, July 15. In order to prepare for this meeting the Church Council will meet Tuesday, July 10 at 7:00pm. JUNE TRINITY TRIBUNE The June issue of our church newsletter Trinity Tribune is being distributed after worship today, in both regular and large print. Pastor Vogts article this month is about the tradition of weddings during the month of June. Current and past issues are also online on the church s web site under the Newsletter button, Pick up your copy of Trinity Tribune today! 150TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE - Will be meeting after church today. 11 COLOSSIANS BIBLE STUDY You are invited to join in Adult Bible Class for a study of God s Grace in Colossians. Though written nearly 2,000 years ago, this Biblical book still speaks to our lives today in a surprisingly fresh and relevant way. One of the Apostle Paul s shorter letters, Colossians is especially rich with descriptions of Christ, His work, and the blessings He bestows on us. Join in Sundays at 9:00am to learn more about God s Grace in Colossians. COFFEE HOUR Everyone is invited to stay for Coffee Hour following worship today. Our thanks to the Sharon & Gladys Prothe for hosting this morning. Hosts are still needed for much of the summer. There is a sign-up sheet on the table with the snacks. Our Generations group provides and prepares the coffee and juice, so those signing up are only asked to provide some treat.
