Great Get Togethers bring communities together A wonderful weekend of Great Get Togethers celebrated Jo Cox's belief that we have more in common than that which divides us. Quiet reflection and prayers contrasted with song, dance, walks, music, poetry and plays across the region from Batley & Spen to Bradford, Dewsbury & Wakefield. Much more. Bishops speak on R4 following Mosque attack The Bishop of Leeds and the Bishop of Bradford have both spoken on Radio 4's Today programme this week following the Finsbury Park Mosque attack. Bishop Toby Howarth took part in the Finsbury Park interfaith vigil in London on Monday evening, while Bishop Nick gave the Thought for the Day on Monday morning. Meeting last week in Halifax, the diocesan Synod took a step forward toward becoming an Eco Diocese as Bishop Nick signed registration documents to set the process in motion. The 2018 budget was also on the agenda and in this report you can also read Bishop Nick's presidential Address to the church leaders from across the diocese. Cathedral celebration for 50 yrs - and an appearance on BBC's the One Show! More than 80 couples married in or earlier- have renewed their wedding vows in a joyful Golden Wedding celebration at Ripon Cathedral. And last night, one couple, Lynne and John Slater (pictured) appeared on BBC's the One Show to tell the nation about their good news.read more Bradford 'Food Waste Feast' launches campaign International Christian charity, Tearfund, has launched a global campaign against food waste by holding a 'Food Waste Feast' at Bradford Cathedral. The Feast was one of two major launch events with 'intercepted' food provided by the Saltaire Canteen in Shipley. See what was on the menu Post truth social media killing politics claims MP Lies, smears and political bias dominate social media, Conservative MP Philip Davies told a debate on "post truth" Britain held at Bradford Cathedral last week. The MP for Shipley shared a platform with Labour's Naz Shah, MP for Bradford West, Bishop Nick and LibDem peer Lord Wallace of Saltaire. More Embracing Difference Bishop Toby commended the Mothers' Union for the 'Embracing Difference' Conference they organised last Saturday, describing it as timely and relevant to our nation at this time. The day encouraged awareness of both the riches and challenges of intercultural relationships and marriage. More. Leeds clergy cricketers power to quarter final place The Diocese of Leeds cricket team are through to the quarter-finals of the 2017 Church Times Cricket Cup after another emphatic victory, this time over a combined diocesan side drawn from Carlisle Blackburn and Durham dioceses.

Leeds won by 125 runs - match report Bishop Nick chooses his 'Dessert' Island Discs Bishop Nick showed his eclectic taste in music at the aptly titled 'Dessert' Island Discs at Ripon Cathedral w a variety of puddings w provided to accompany his choice of discs. These ranged from the Beatles to Mozart via Bob Dylan and Bach - and, of course, Bruce Cockburn his long time favourite artist. More about the evening Farewell to the Bishop of Leeds' Chaplain The Chaplain to the Bishop of Leeds, the Revd Lynn Thorius, is to leave her post at the end of July, following a restructuring of the Bishop's office at Hollin House. Three years into the new diocese, Bishop Nick has now delegated some substantial responsibilities to the area bishops, meaning that a re-allocation of work in Hollin House is needed. More EVENTS Ordinations at Bradford Cathedral Ministry across the diocese will be strengthened on July 1 when twenty men and women are ordained as deacons. They include a retired GP, a former actor and puppeteer, a care home manager, and a waste management adviser with Calderdale Council. Twenty four curates will be ordained as priests at services a week earlier in each Area. Full details Bradford Literature Festival 30 June - 9 July In this year's Bradford Literature Festival (30 June - 9 July), Bishop Nick is taking part in three events on Sun 2 July, Bishop Toby hosts an evening of sacred poetry at Bradford Cathedral on Sun 9 July, and Dean Jerry Lepine chairs an evening on William Blake's Jerusalem on Sat 8 July.
