2 2 Consistory Person of the Month My name is Barbara Joellenbeck, and since I m Consistory Person of the Month for January, I get the chance to tell you a little bit about myself. I ve grown up at First and St. Stephen s, attending my entire life except for 20 years taken up with college and living in Seattle I waited tables for many years after college, and loved it, but have been employed in a nursing home as an Occupation Therapy Assistant for the last 13 years, a job I find exhausting but very rewarding. I live in Baltimore City with my husband and poodle, and enjoy hiking, reading and running. As I recently said in a service, I am the daughter, granddaughter and niece of ministers, and I believe that First and St. Stephen s is now the embodiment of everything myself and my family have hoped that a church could be. I am proud to be a member. Happy New Year! Calendar for January Sunday, January 7 Extending the Table Please bring a dish to share while extending the table after service. We will be packing the Food for Thought back packs this Sunday so remember to bring your donations. Sunday, January 21 Annual Meeting Please plan to stay after church on Sunday, January 21 for our Annual Meeting. At this meeting we will do the following: Install members of the Consistory, including new members, Richard Arrington and Carole Haas. There is still room on the Consistory for at least 2 more people, if anyone would like to volunteer. Please let Consistory President, Emily Perl, know of your interest by January 9 via at emilyperl78@gmail.com. Review end-of-year reports: celebrate what we have accomplished and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Continue the discussion of our budget for 2018 as adopted at our October Congregational Meeting. We need to think, together, how we can better meet our financial goals. Youth Schedule for January January 7 - Extending the Table January 14 Youth Fun Day at the church January 21 - Bible study January 28 - TBA Children s Sunday school and worship: With Chelsea gone, we have much to work through which presents opportunities for all adults to chip in. We ll be trying some different things over the coming months as we look for a new teacher to hire.

3 3 Photos from Sunday, December 17th - Sunday, December 24th Food For Thought Please read the letter below that Rachel Christian received from Pleasant Plains Elementary School, thanking First & St. Stephen s congregation for the back packs for their students. A special gift was added to the December back packs a handmade Christmas card and Giant gift card for each Food for Thought student. Quote from letter: "We appreciate your kindness and generosity in going out of your way to support our students." We will be packing the Food for Thought back packs for January this coming Sunday, January 7 th. Please remember to bring your food donations.
