2 Core Ministries of WaterStone Africa Hope Community Using a participative approach, Africa Hope Community assists African immigrant women in achieving their highest potential as they integrate into the U. S. culture while strengthening ties with their homeland. Joni Leahy bobandjoni@comcast.net Awana Awana is a club for children three years old and potty-trained through 6th grade who are interested in learning about Christ s love. Weekly Awana programming consists of Bible teaching, scripture memorization, worship, games, and most of all...fun! Randy and Linda Bowlin awana@waterstonechurch.org x203 Deacons Deacon Ministry enhances the feeling of connectedness within our congregation. It is a ministry that looks inward at the needs of our church community and is based on reflecting the love of Christ as described in Acts 6:3 and 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Deacons are assigned a group of 10 individuals or families, and they serve them by praying once a week, connecting via phone or monthly and meeting in person once a year. Adam Biegler adambiegler@gmail.com Feeding Many Feeding Many seeks to eliminate the pain of hunger among families in need through nurturing, education, and community gardening. They also provide participants with the knowledge and means to control their own food security. This is accomplished through a gardening education program, the Produce for the People program, and the Community Fruit Orchard and Garden. 3 Impact Orphans Impact Orphans exists to defend and care for orphans as guided by Isaiah 1:17, in which God s people are urged to take up the cause of the fatherless. Alyssa Kilian a_kilian@msn.com First Impressions The First Impressions team welcomes new visitors and regular attendees by greeting, ushering, serving coffee and donuts, etc. at WaterStone on Sunday mornings. This ministry is for those who have a heart for serving others and welcoming new visitors on Sunday mornings. Emily Clauss emilyc@waterstonechurch.org x274 Justice in Action Justice in Action is a course that provides an understanding of the Church s social mission from a biblical perspective. Participants learn to integrate personal spirituality with social ministry while diving deeper into the spiritual truths and the history of social action. Mary Kaes marykaes@aol.com x101 Less-Homeless With economic conditions continuing to deteriorate, the face of the homeless in Jefferson County is very different than one might imagine. There are now more than 2,800 verified homeless children, and that number is growing daily. Less-Homeless provides temporary shelter for those in Jefferson County. 4 Men s Ministry Men s Ministry helps men engage in the dynamic process of heart transformation and growth toward spiritual maturity, so that they may reproduce disciples and radically affect the culture in which they live, all to God s glory. Andy Miller andym@waterstonechurch.org x140 Missions Join God in His Story. In 2014 WaterStone will send teams to serve in faraway places. Trips to Central Asia, Dominican Republic, domestic immigrant groups, Spain and Uganda are designed for youth, families and adults. There is a need for people with all different gifts. This ministry is for those who have a heart for serving the church through prayer. The mission of Royal Family KIDS is to create life-changing moments for children of abuse. They provide a place where people can grow spiritually, build new relationships, and serve others. Waterstone s Small Groups emphasize Bible study, fellowship, prayer, and outreach. The goal of this ministry is to offer short-term support while connecting visiting families with outside resources that can offer long-term solutions. 6 Young Marrieds A place for young married adults who desire connection with others in the same phase of life. Some are seminary students, some are working professionals, some are college students and some are trying to figure out what they are. Some are single, some are in a relationship, and some are married. All love Jesus and come together to help others live out this love in the current culture.
