Bell (b. 1949) We Share the Gifts of God About Receiving Communion at St. Alban s: All are invited to Christ's table, including children. Bread, in the form of a wafer, is received in the hands. Wine is received either by drinking from the common cup, or by dipping the wafer in the cup. Gluten-free wafers are available from the presiding minister. Those not communing may come forward for a blessing, keeping your hands folded over your chest. For those unable to consume either wine or bread, communion is received fully in either element alone. The Prayer Desk We invite those wishing particular prayer for themselves or on behalf of someone else to come to the front of the line to receive the bread and wine. Immediately after receiving, go to the prayer station located in the alcove of the Chapel. Give your first name and in a low voice, briefly state your prayer need. The person from the prayer team will lay hands on your shoulders and after a short silence, in awareness of God s presence, they will pray quietly for you. 5 Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise. Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering. Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us. We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said: Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said: Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ: Dying, you destroyed our death. Rising, you restored our life. Christ Jesus, come in glory! A Reading from the Book of Daniel 7:1-3,15-18 In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in bed. Then he wrote down the dream: I, Daniel, saw in my vision by night the four winds of heaven stirring up the great sea, and four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another. As for me, Daniel, my spirit was troubled within me, and the visions of my head terrified me. I approached one of the attendants to ask him the truth concerning all this. So he said that he would disclose to me the interpretation of the matter: As for these four great beasts, four kings shall arise out of the earth. But the holy ones of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom for ever for ever and ever." For the Word of God in Scripture, For the Word of God among us, For the Word of God within us, Thanks be to God. Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time gather us with Blessed Mary, Blessed Alban, and all your people into the joy of our true eternal home. Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. Blessed are you now and for ever. AMEN. 6 A Reading from Paul s Letter to the Ephesians 1:11-23 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God's own people, to the praise of his glory. I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. God put this power to work in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. 8 The Holy Gospel The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Luke 19:1-10 Glory to you, Lord Christ Jesus looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. "Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. "Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. "Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. The Sermon 8 Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. Praise to you Lord Christ The Rev. Gigi Conner We Affirm Our Faith from Enriching Our Worship, The Episcopal Church, closest to original translation from the Greek. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen 9 We Pray for the Church and the World On this Sunday when we remember those who have been saints to us and to the world, and when we turn our thoughts to how we use our gifts in our life s journey, we offer our prayers to God in thanksgiving. Hear us as we pray for the unity of the Church. May we all be one that the world may believe. May we choose to serve rather than to be served, to give rather than to take. And may we contribute to the good of all rather than consume more than our share. Have compassion on those who suffer from sickness, grief or trouble, In your presence may they find strength. Look with kindness on our homes and families. Grant that your love may grow in our hearts. Make us alive to the needs of our community. Help us to share one another s joys and burdens. Inspire and lead those who hold authority in the nations and the world. Guide us and all people in the way of justice and peace. We give thanks for the angels, archangels, patriarchs, matriarchs, apostles, martyrs and all the saints who have been witnesses to the gospel. Give us courage to proclaim your Gospel in our time. We pray for all who have died and we remember with gratefulness those who were saints to us, those we love but see no more. We are invited to call out their names Into the heart of the Beloved we have commended them and we give thanks for all your saints who have entered into glory. Lifting our voices with all creation, with Blessed Mary, Blessed Gregory and all the saints, let us offer ourselves and one another to the living God through Christ. Celebrant May we give and receive love, trust and be trusted, dare and be daring, believe and be believed, and may we live in God s sunlight all our days. Amen.
