May 15: St. Cecilia s ECW women s group invites all church women to an end -of -the - year lunch at Billy s Stone Crab, 1 Collany Rd., Terre Verde. The lunch begins at noon. Everyone pays for their own lunch. Car pooling will be available and will leave from the church at 11:30 am. Please add your name to the sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the Welcome Center! May 20: Triangles Women s Group meets at Sweet Celebrations in Gulfport. At 11:30 am. Contact Emma McCullough if you plan to come. June 4: Holy 10 am it s the Day of Pentecost wear red. June 18: Holy 10 am Father s Day Brunch follows the Service 16 Opportunities for Giving 1)Birthday Bags: The question was once posed by an 11 year old: How do children living in fostercare facilities celebrate a birthday? Then she gave a way to help children celebrate and we have picked up that practice with birthday bags. We encourage you - or you and friend - to pick up the following items: gift bag, disposable baking pan, cake mix, canned icing, candles, paper plates for 8, napkins, forks, juice, cups, and a gift card for $ Voila! Instant birthday party. The child gets to help bake the cake and the other children can help decorate and the child can pick out a gift for themselves. We keep an updated list of who is living in three foster care homes (2 homes are for boys and 1 home is for girls). Our parish nurse, Kay, has been delivering the bags in time for the birthdays. You can bring the gift bags to church on a Sunday or drop off at the church office. Currently we are running very low on bags. 2) Pak a Sak bags: We pack 20 bags a week for children who go to the public school next door. These are children who have food insecurities - meaning there might not be enough food at home for the weekend. We put 11 items in the bags ranging from cereal to snack bars - to juice - to noodles. The cost per child is about $5 a week. If you would like to donate money toward this - that would be great. If you are in the grocery store and see those 2 for 1 specials - where there might be 8 to 10 snacks in a pack - why not pick those up and bring over to church? Also - we asked the coordinator if there was anything else we could help with. She said that underwear (ages 6-10) would be helpful (if a child has an accident - they are sent home) and socks (sometimes they arrive without socks on and their feet begin to hurt). These items can also be brought to the church or dropped off at the office. 3) $1 for each year: We encourage you, on your birthday, to give $1 for every year you have lived. We are now applying those contributions to our one and only loan so that we can become debt free. Currently that loan has gone from $164,000 to $133,000. Slowly but surely we are whittling this down and we are extremely thankful for your long and wonderful lives! Come to the Lord's Table. If you wish to receive Communion: Please come forward in two lines (we will bring communion to you if you are unable to come forward). Extend your hands, palms up to receive the bread; the chalice bearer will gently help guide the cup to your mouth. If you do not wish to receive the wine, please cross your arms in front of you. Receiving just the bread is a valid communion. Gluten-free wafers are available. All are welcome. Take this opportunity to meet someone new in this ever-changing community. Today the church elves provided refreshments. If everyone who attends our worship service would take one Sunday to provide refreshments it would be helpful and the entire year would be covered! Flowers for the Altar Each Sunday we place flowers on the altar as a sign of praise and honor to God. Unless it is a special occasion such as Christmas or Easter or Pentecost, we usually put two informal arrangements in glass vases on the altar. At the end of the service we usually gift someone (i.e. a visitor or birthday person) with the flowers. These flowers cost $24 a week and we get them at Publix two sets of 3 for $12 bouquets. You are invited to help with flowers in two ways. 1)You can always donate $24 and we ll pick up the flowers we are more than happy to print in the bulletin who gave the flowers and if they are in honor or memory of someone. 2) You can purchase flowers of your choosing and come in on a Saturday morning or early Sunday and make the arrangements yourselves. This gives everyone an opportunity to participate in providing flowers. Like the refreshments if everyone took one Sunday the entire year would be covered! 6 A Reading from 1 Peter 2: 2-10 Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame. To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner, and A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall. They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. In the first light of Easter, glory broke from the tomb and changed the women's sorrow into joy. The Sermon The Rev. Gigi Conner We Affirm Our Faith Together This Nicene Creed, from Enriching Our Worship, The Episcopal Church, is closer to the original translation from the Greek. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen 10 7

8 We Pray for the Church and for the World On this day, loving God, we think of you as one who cares for all people: those born into the family and those adopted, those who wander off and those who stay close to home. Mother and Father of us all, thank you for your love. We pray for mothers: those who gave us birth, those who raised us and care for us still, for mother-hearted women who make us feel special, for aunts, grandmas, neighbors and friends, for all of the women who touch our lives and for all the men who are both mother and father to their children. We give thanks for their steadfast love and faith in us. We pray for all those who are unwell or struggling with an life-threatening illness. Give them courage and hope in their distress and the strength to endure. We Prepare the Table The gifts of bread and wine are brought forward. Bell (b. 1949) We pray for those who are sorrowing today especially those who are missing their mothers. We pray also for those we love yet see no more. We believe that nothing, not even death, can separate us from your love. We pray for those who live in war-torn countries, whose lives have been ended or disrupted, who live in terror and pray for a time of peace for they too mourn the loss of mothers, fathers, and children. We pray for all who try to keep their families together while living in fear and confusion. Scripture reminds us that families come in all shapes and sizes couples with no children, foster families and adoptive families, extended families and birth families, single people and groups of people who call themselves family. We pray for those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. We pray for all who share their lives together. We pray for all of the groups of people to which we belong: families at home and far away, families at school and work and church. We pray for those who are separated from their families, by distances of many types and sizes. Help all people to feel connected as your human family. We think of our homes whether they be houses, shelters, cabins, apartments, mobile homes, or tents. We realize some people live on beaches or alleys, hospitals or prisons. These are all places where your people live. Move us to deeds of love that can make any place a home. Celebrant Almighty God, through our savior, Jesus, you teach us that we are all sisters and brothers of one human family, at home on this one, fragile planet. Help us to love one another, to honor our elders and our children, and in so doing, to honor you, our God, who always tends and cares for us.
