5 We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. Gigi Conner We Affirm Our Faith This Nicene Creed, from Enriching Our Worship, The Episcopal Church, is closer to the original translation from the Greek. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. 8 We Pray for the Church and the World O Christ of the manger, and Christ of the universe, as wise sages from various nations were called to worship before you, as your were brought to be blessed, open our ears to your call, and open our eyes to your glory. As a star rose, and drew people from great distances to Bethlehem that they might greet the Christ-child; Draw us, your Church, and all of your people to you. May we be the Church and the People who you call us to be. As you gave Mary your Holy Spirit, filling her with the delight of your Presence; Fill us with your Spirit, and renew our lives. As Gentiles streamed to Jesus Light, and Wise Ones to the brightness of his rising; Draw our nation, our President, our President-elect, and all in authority, to the brightness of Christ. Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor Eternal God, we confess that sometimes we withhold the gifts you have bestowed on us for service, using them only for our own benefit. In this New Year, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem; for those seeking to make peace among Muslims, Jews and Christians in the Holy Land. We pray for all who are suffering from tyranny and violence, war and terrorism. In this New Year, we pray for diplomats and others who are working to stop violence, terrorism, and war; we pray for all medical and humanitarian workers in regions where fighting is present, we pray for all those who strive for peace. May peace be in our hearts, in our lives, and in our homes. In this New Year, we pray for all who work in our local communities, for a sharing of talents and awareness of needs.
