3 Envious Angels In 1749, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his conversion, hymnwriter and evangelist, Charles Wesley, wrote these words: O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer s praise;- The glories of my God and King The triumphs of His grace! Everything about our faith always centers on Christ. Our testimony is the same as Wesley s: there are not enough tongues or words to describe the glories of our salvation. Today, we begin a new series in the book of I Peter. The foundation of this rich little epistle is the glorious salvation that we have received from the Father, through Jesus Christ, and administered to us by the Holy Spirit. In fact, it seems that even the angels are jealous because they are always longing to look into these things (I Peter 1:12). 5 On Mission: Great Rivers Region Mission Trip Special Needs A group from the Great Rivers Region is going on a mission trip to both the Philippines (Paul Rollet) and Thailand (Jeff & Annie Dieselberg). They will be working with 6 different churches/ groups in the Philippines and also with 3 groups in Thailand including the new church that Jeff Dieselberg is the pastor of and the Night Light group. They will be purchasing supplies and equipment for children, youth and adults. They have learned of some special needs from both groups. This is short notice but we thought we would take up a special offering this week and next to see if we could give them something. Annie and Jeff Dieselberg are based in Bangkok, Thailand. They both serve at the NightLight Foundation & NightLight Design Co. Ltd. NightLight is an international organization committed to addressing the complex issues surrounding trafficking and prostitution by catalyzing individual and community transformation. NightLight's vision is to offer intervention to sexually exploited women and children, to enable them to discover their dignity and to provide a program of holistic transformation, empowering them to live and work in their communities. Annie is the founder and CEO of NightLight. Annie also facilitates outreach in the red-light area and leads in the prayer and deliverance ministry at NightLight. Jeff serves as chaplain to the NightLight. He also serves as senior pastor of NightLight s church plant, Song Sawang Church (translated Shine the Light ). Song Sawang Church began in May 2008, mostly with new converts from NightLight. Now, however, these women who are members of the church are reaching out to family, friends and strangers, including men, youths and children, bringing more growth and diversity to the congregational makeup. cont d on next page

6 The GRR Mission group will also be visiting Paul Rollet. In association with Mission Ministries, Inc., he serves in the Philippines with Companion with the Poor (CWTP), a church planting organization and community working to launch holistic churches that meet the spiritual and physical needs of the poorest of the poor living in the least reached communities of metro Manila. Through this ministry, Paul aims to help strengthen and increase the capacity of CWTP to send missionaries out to other parts of the Philippines and Southeast Asia so that one day they, too, might be able to send missionaries to North and South America and other parts of the world. We will be receiving a special offering today and next Sunday, February 3rd, to help our friends from the Great Rivers Region give to the mission groups they will be serving on their mission trip. We are in bondage to busyness. We constantly strive to complete the limitless to-do lists that hinder us from experiencing all that God has for us. By neglecting time for tranquility, serenity, and repose, we limit our Christlikeness and miss out on some of God's greatest gifts.
