When you arrive to register on Monday, May 23, you will be able to reserve a slot to have your photo taken between 2 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on May 23, or between 8:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24. The photo area will be set up in the conference center to ensure that you will not miss more than a few minutes of the presentations or break time. Wearing your clerical clothes at the time of your slot would be greatly appreciated. 6 510 Ocean Avenue Telephone: (207) Office of Lifelong Faith Formation Evangelization Outreach in Portland on May 14 Those on a parish evangelization team or involved in evangelization work are invited to Evangelization Outreach with Sister Louise Alff, OSF, the former coordinator of parish evangelization for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. In just three hours, learn simple ways to effectively reach out to non-practicing Catholics, make new parishioners feel at home, create a sense of family at every liturgy, and minister to bereaved at funerals. The workshop will be held at the Chancery offices on 510 Ocean Avenue in Portland with videoconferencing available in Brewer and Caribou. The cost to participate is $5. Calling Youth to Mission Workshop in Portland on June 4 A workshop entitled Calling Youth to Mission is set for Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Chancery offices on 510 Ocean Avenue in Portland, with videoconferencing available in Brewer and Caribou. The workshop is designed for all parish leaders whose ministries impact the lives of adolescents, including clergy, pastoral associates, youth ministry coordinators, faith formation and service leaders, catechists, school teachers and principals, and campus ministers. The featured presenter will be Jane Angha, coordinator of youth ministry services for the Center for Ministry Development. Angha has worked with high school youth for the past 20 years as a teacher, youth minister, and coordinator of religious education. Silver & Gold Mass in Augusta on June 25 The annual Silver & Gold Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Deeley on Saturday, June 25, at 4 p.m. at St. Augustine Church on 1 Kendall Street in Augusta. The Silver & Gold Mass is a testimony to the goodness of marriage and the blessings it can bring a husband and wife. The gathering will thank God for graces given and ask for the continuing gift of grace to persevere in the commitments that have been made. Couples celebrating milestone anniversaries (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc.) are invited to come celebrate their marriage and to invoke the Lord s continued blessings upon their marriage covenant. 7 N.E.W. (New Evangelization Week) in Standish on July 6-10 Gather with around 100 other teens from the Diocese of Portland to share, learn more about, and grow in your faith! N.E.W. is a week-long institute that will be held at Saint Joseph s College of Maine in Standish from July All high school teens going into their sophomore, junior, or senior years, or those just graduated from high school are welcome to attend. It s a jam-packed week focused on discipleship and evangelization, and filled with a good balance of social, prayer, learning, sharing, and outdoor time. Registration, which will be opening soon, will take place through your youth ministry coordinator or appropriate person in your parish. 9 Barrels & Brews in South Portland on June 4 Catholic Charities Maine will hold its annual Barrels & Brews fundraiser on Saturday, June 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Southern Maine Community College, located on 2 Fort Road in South Portland. Barrels & Brews features a sampling of Maine's best craft beers and wines, plus delectable hors d'oeuvres and s'mores. There will also be live music, a silent auction, and chances to win luxury raffle baskets. Tickets are $42 per person or $320 for a group of eight. The evening raises money for more than 20 programs and ministries offered by Catholic Charities Maine. To purchase tickets, visit: Empowered Parishes Workshop in Portland on September 23 All parish leaders and parishioners are invited to participate in an Empowered Parishes Workshop on Friday, September 23, from 9 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Church on 492 Ocean Avenue in Portland. The workshop will offer tools for developing leaders in ministry, instruct on how to engage new volunteers of all ages, and demonstrate how to connect social ministries with other areas of a parish. The workshop will feature Fr. Ragan Schriver, the assistant professor of practice at the University of Tennessee s College of Social Work; Stephen Letourneau, CEO of Catholic Charities Maine; and Bishop Robert P. Deeley, who will celebrate a closing Mass at 3:30 p.m. Advance registration is $15 and includes breakfast and lunch. Registration at the door will be $20. 10 From the Catholic Community Midcoast Symphony Orchestra to Present Verdi s Requiem in Lewiston (May 14) and Topsham (May 15) The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra will perform Giuseppe Verdi s monumental Requiem Mass (Messa da Requiem) under the direction of Rohan Smith and in collaboration with the Oratorio Chorale and Vox Nova Chamber Choir. The performances are set for Saturday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Franco Center in Lewiston, and Sunday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham. Renowned soloists will join over 150 local musicians on stage during the performances. Verdi s Requiem is seldom performed outside major metropolitan areas. It was last offered in Maine by the Bangor Symphony Orchestra in Individual tickets are $20; college students with a student ID and those aged 18 and younger will be admitted free. Pilgrimage to Ireland with Cardinal Seán O Malley on July Join Cardinal Seán O Malley, Archbishop of Boston, for a seven-day journey to Ireland on July to celebrate the 40 th anniversary and rededication of Our Lady s Basilica at Knock Shrine. During the trip, pilgrims will enjoy a special itinerary of prayer, Irish culture, sightseeing, and time with friends old and new. The trip will include three days in County Mayo for the ceremonies at Knock; a visit to the stunning Achill Island; a celebration of the 800 th anniversary of Ballintubber Abbey; and a choice of going north to take in Donegal and the Wild Atlantic Way coastline or south to visit Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, and Kylemore Abbey.
