Youth Minister St. John and Holy Cross Parish, South Portland St. Bartholomew Parish, Cape Elizabeth In an effort to provide a more robust youth ministry experience for parish teens, St. John and Holy Cross Parish in South Portland and St. Bartholomew Parish in Cape Elizabeth are searching for a youth minister to coordinate the youth ministry program for both parishes. The successful candidate will have experience working with teens, an understanding of liturgy and catechetics as it relates to teens, and some flexibility in their schedule. This position requires an average of six hours per week, with most of the hours occurring on Sunday evenings and some weekday morning or evening planning time under the direction and supervision of the pastoral team. Residential Pastoral Associate St. Joseph Church, Ossipee, NH St. Joseph Church, a parish (250 families, doubling in size during the summer) in Ossipee, New Hampshire, is looking for a residential pastoral associate. Responsibilities include pastoral care, sick calls, oversight of worship services and other events, financial management, coordination of bulletin preparation, and oversight of maintenance and security. The successful candidate will report to Fr. Edmund Babicz, pastor for both St. Joseph Church and St. Anthony Church (20 miles south on U.S. 16 in Sanbornville). The pastor resides at the latter site. The annual salary is $24,000, plus room and board in St. Joseph s rectory, and utilities and auto insurance. Formation in religious vocation or equivalent education is required. The dates of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week highlight the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25) which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood. How Can I Reach My Loved Ones Who Are Away from the Catholic Church? Parish Life Conference Ramada Inn, Lewiston Saturday, September 27 The Parish Life Conference is set for Saturday, September 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ramada Inn on 490 Pleasant Street in Lewiston. The event will feature a morning Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert P. Deeley and a keynote address from Kathy Hendricks entitled Hope, Hospitality, Happiness: Keys to Transform All Things in Christ. The conference will also include workshops for catechetical leaders; catechists; parish life coordinators; adult faith formation, evangelization and RCIA teams; youth ministers; clergy; marriage and family life ministers; readers and music ministers; parish pastoral councils; and parish staff and volunteers. Roy s All Steak Hamburgers and Golf Center on Route 4 in Auburn August 2, 2014 (Rain Date: August 3) Something for the whole family! Have fun and help raise funds for the Diocese of Portland s mission trip to Bolivia! Roy s All Steak Hamburgers and Golf Center on Route 4 in Auburn will donate a portion of their proceeds on Saturday, August 2, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., to help the mission delegates defray the costs of their vaccinations and visas. Minigolf will be $4, with the driving range offering its regular prices of $4 (small basket) and $6 (large basket). From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Pine Acres Golf Course (part of the golf center) will charge players helping with the fundraiser a $20 fee, with $6 of each fee being donated to the fundraiser. 9 Worldwide Marriage Encounter in Maine Dear priests and deacons throughout our beautiful diocese, Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) has been offering support for the celebration of Catholic vocations for over 40 years. It is considered to be THE original faith-based marriage enrichment program, with a mission to proclaim the value of marriage and holy orders in the Church and in the world. For the couples that participate, this often results in a renewed commitment within their marriage and within the Church. The program is continually updated to address the challenges faced in our society by married couples, priests, and deacons. WWME offers married couples the opportunity to spend time together away from the busyness of the world and to focus on each other. It offers tools for building and maintaining a strong Christian marriage in today s world and gives priests the opportunity to explore their vocations, in conjunction with the presenting priest, in order to energize and reconnect. In a recent survey of over 2,000 WWME participants, 73% of survey respondents indicated that the weekend changed their relationship with the Church, energizing them to become more active in their parish. Pope Saint John Paul II is quoted as saying that the future of the world and of the Church passes though the family. Enriching marriages enriches families by providing an ongoing witness to the power of God s love through the sacrament of marriage. Many of us who have participated in WWME also participate in marriage preparation or enrichment activities within our home parishes. During the WWME weekend, a series of presentations are given by a team of three Catholic couples and one Catholic priest. They provide a rare opportunity for attendees to look at themselves as individuals, look at their spousal relationship, and look at their vocation and relationship with God. Each presentation is given to the group as a whole followed by time for each husband and wife to share with each other in the privacy of their own rooms. Members of the clergy communicate amongst themselves and can interact with attending couples during meal times. Participating priests are at a weekend to receive, not serve. Our next weekend is in Lewiston from Sunday, August 3, to Tuesday afternoon, August 5. This is our last Encounter of 2014, so we also encourage you to share the benefits of this apostolate with your parishioners. Thank you for the love and dedication you pour into your vocation.
