2 June 2nd and 3rd $4, Collections Mark 3:20-35 Words from Fr. Greg Ordinary time takes on greater awareness and action when we intentionally name Jesus throughout our day. Naming Jesus in our daily lives leads us to have grateful hearts. We are grateful when our conscience is raised to ego-deflation and recognize we are not in control. Everything we have is given by God. We are created by God in God s image and likeness, to know, love, and serve God. The ego-deflation removes our pretending We are God. Grateful hearts/souls give us a presence in the moment, attentive to the here and now. Jesus is aware that we can make choices with our free will for the good of others only if we are free and present to the moment. If our minds are rehearsing events from the past, we are stuck in guilt - woulda, coulda, shoulda and never free. If we are controlling the future and its outcome, we are stuck in fear and not free. Mother church in her wisdom identifies for us, from the beginning of this six month journey in faith(june through November), what we human beings contend with day in and day out. The Genesis story reminds us of what we deal with, immediate gratification. The smart phone and social media of all kinds puts us in touch with the tree of knowledge. We are lured into believing that if we hear it or see on social media this is solid truth. Satan tempts us to believe we have knowledge at hand. It does not factor in wisdom and lived experience that filter and give greater authenticity to what we hear and see. It does not and cannot give us internal insight, grace, and prayer. From thousands of years ago, God brings to us the gift of faith that is a lived experience. Social media is quick, hardened with opinion and not internally processed. Genesis also gives us the wonderful insight of what happens when we lie and blame and shame someone else when we do not take responsibility for our choices and accountability for decisions freely made. Adam was not forced to eat of the tree of knowledge. Eve did not coerce him. Neither did Satan coerce, only invited Adam to own something greater, control and power, that was not Satan s to give. It was all false, yet it disclosed openly guilt and shame as Adam and Eve tried to hide it. God knew, truth is nothing to be ashamed of or hidden. Grateful hearts welcome the indwelling Holy Spirit and we receive the gifts and fruits of the Spirit that lead us to serve others, for the good of others, and build community. This is an internal journey, open to see the world through a lens of attentiveness, mercy, and compassion. Grateful hearts quickly remove the lens of entitlement where we judge others from the outside while our hearts/souls are hardened on the inside. Jesus came to bring the message of forgiveness. Forgiveness transforms our being and when asked for and given, we become transparent messengers missioned into the neighborhood to bring hope. In the Gospel, it seems harsh as Jesus says Here are my mother and brothers. For whoever does the will of god is my brother and sister and mother. Anyone who hears this and is a believer, does not find meanness or harshness or insult. We know believers. We recognize people who know, love and serve the Lord. We know pretenders because they hide, and blame and shame others. External faking it does not last long. Internal conversion is expressed commitment, truth, owning our mistakes and sinfulness with hearts of humility seeking forgiveness. No need to hide. We are human and divine when we ask God for the grace to be fully human and move beyond our human limitations. Ordinary time is not so ordinary. We grow in love with God and are not ashamed to admit our faults and seek God s grace to grow and to become life-givers, meaning makers, story tellers of how Jesus works in our lives and gives us imaginations that bring grace to lived experience through our thoughts, words, and actions. He can visit with you, bring you the blessed Sacraments and pray with you. If you do not call, he cannot accomplish the above. Baptisms, Marriages: Call Father Greg at (228) to set up time for preparation and then set a date. Confessions: Saturdays 4:00 to 4:30 pm prior to Mass or by appointment. Office Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (closed from Noon-1 pm for lunch). Parish Organizational Meetings Fr. Herbert Mullin, Knights of Columbus Council #16992 meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Parish Life Center. Rosary at 6:00 meeting begins at 6:15 Pastoral Council the last Monday of each month at 6 pm in the Church Conference Room. St. Vincent de Paul Society meets on the First Sunday of every month, prior to Mass, at 9:00 am, in the St. Vincent de Paul office at the church. St. Michael Youth Group (3rd -11th grades) meets every 3rd Saturday after the 5 pm Youth Mass. Call the church office for more information. CCD Classes All Grades: meet Nativity BVM in the Sacred Heart Center on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Bulletin Deadline: The deadline for placing a notice or announcement in the weekly bulletin is noon on Wednesdays. You are welcome to call or your requests to the parish secretary. Family Ad Attachment: Please remember to call or the office with any family ad request by noon on the Wednesday prior to publication release. PARISH INFORMATION Ways you can help Loaves & Fishes: On the 4th Saturday of every month St. Michael s prepares and serves both breakfast and lunch; if you can volunteer please call the office at Bethesda Free Clinic: 6912B N. Washington Ave. in Ocean Springs. FREE medical care Monday through Thursday 9-12 am and 1:30-4 pm (first come, first served). FREE wellness counseling and critical dental care by appointment. St. Michael Pastoral Council Teams: Call or the church office for information on joining a team and for each of the teams meeting times. St. Vincent de Paul: The St. Vincent de Paul Society is continuing their collection of canned goods and non-perishable food items. Bring in donations and place them in the designated box at the back of the church. St. Michael Outreach Team is in need of volunteers for senior home visits on Tuesdays each week. Rev. Alois May was Celebrant. John Breal, president of St. Michael CYO, was Mass Commentator and Wesley Toche, III, delivered the Epistle. Sing leaders were accompanied by Phillip Pitalo on bass guitar and Jim Edwards on lead guitar.
