2 used to impact their community and world. But as wonderful as gifts are as essential as they are for the health of the bodying for effective ministry and missions there is something greater! We live in a world that is captivated by the flashy the novel those who have amazing gifts and abilities. As I write this, the nation is gearing up for that great spectacle of incredible athletic gifting the Super Bowl! The depth of talent and physical skills seemingly supernatural gifts possessed by these players makes it hard to turn your eyes away! It should not be possible for humans that large to be that fast and that agile! And we are captivated! We don t just find ourselves fascinated by athletes we are amazed at musicians and entrepreneurs we are captivated by authors and speakers even religious celebrities that evidence supreme gifts. I have often sat in stunned amazement at the gifting of preachers and speakers as they share the powerful and beautiful message of the Word. And gifts are wonderful things! There is no doubt that God does indeed give beautiful gifts to believers for the building up of the Body of Christ, for missions and ministry, for proclaiming the Gospel and reaching people with the essential message of our Savior. Each church is uniquely gifted to serve and minister and proclaim the hope of Christ in the community that they are planted in. Some churches exhibit supernatural, seemingly impossible gifts Over the next four weeks we are going to explore what Paul had to say not only about gifts but more importantly about what is greater than the gifts what is at the heart of our mission and ministry what should motivate and drive our lives and churches what should mark us s belonging to Christ the One thing that will remain! That one thing is love! 1 Corinthians 13 is the most comprehensive look at the truth of what love is and isn t that you will find in the Bible. Paul teaches us that gifts are great but love is greater! In fact, without love as the driving and motivating factor we are wasting our time and efforts! So join me and a couple hundred of our brothers and sisters each Sunday this month as we worship and explore this incredible gift the gift that is greater than all others! Wouldn t it be great if connecting with God was as simple as sending a direct message? While it may not look just like a DM on Instagram, the good news is that talking to God may be easier than we think. 4 parents genuinely trying to follow the person and teachings Do as I Say, Not as I Do By Doug Fields Have the words Because I said so ever come out of your mouth? This quick fix answer we sometimes give our kids of Jesus. Faith conversations (the What I say stuff) must be validated by our lifestyle (the what I do reality). We can tell them all day long that Jesus makes a difference in our lives but as they grow, our kids need to actually see that belief lived out in our lives. when they ask Why? can ultimately undermine our authority as parents. Because I said so was never a satisfying answer when you were a kid; it s no different now that you re the parent. When it comes to guiding and teaching our kids, do as I do is far more effective than do as I say. And the really good news? Your kids are picking up some great qualities from you. It s easy to focus on our negative characteristics and forget about the positive things we re passing on. Let s be honest: we re all a bundle of strengths and weaknesses, and our children see both. It can only help your parenting to take some time to reflect on the messages Whether we admit it or not, our lives are on display 24/ 7. Our children are always watching and learning from us, from both our positive and negative characteristics and behaviors. that are being communicated by your life to ensure that the positives create more vivid pictures for your kids than the negative. Intentional parents understand this reality and think about the messages their actions are sending. Actions always speak louder than words. The reality that your kids are watching isn t meant to scare you or make you feel defeated. Instead, it is a reminder that sometimes what we re saying and what we re doing don t actually line up. When you think about the most important This isn t to say that intentional parents don t mess up. Even intentional parents are imperfect, and our actions sometimes reflect that reality. But those imperfections speak volumes, too. Because your kids don t need you to be a perfect parent or spiritual giant. The perception that we need to be things you want to pass on to your kids, start now to consider whether your actions in those areas of your own life are the ones you want on display. Your kids know you re not perfect. But what they may not know is what they re supposed to do when they mess up. They need you to model it. perfect or overly spiritual as parents is intimidating and can create insecurity.
