1 Village Meetings Village Hall Meeting Tuesday 10 January 8pm Village Hall Friends of St Martins meeting Tuesday 15 January 8pm - Dumb Post PCC Meeting Thursday 17 January 7.30pm - The Manor Bremhill Parish Council meeting - Monday 4 February 7.30pm - The Moravian Room, East Tytherton Future Events THE BREMHILL NEWSLETTER HAPPY NEW YEAR - WELCOME TO THE BREMHILL NEWSLETTER! The reasons for this publication are explained on a separate page but given the demise of The Way, the PCC felt it was vital to continue a publication. However, the whole village should be able to help shape any future publication. Please help us to do that. It should be more than a Church publication. In the meantime, we will be including the usual news but exclusively from Bremhill. We are sure that this will change in due course. We have had a very generous donation of 800 from the Charlcutt Reading Room. Other generous donors have offered financial support. However, we believe that, in time, this publication must be self-financing. However, it is very heartening that people have been so supportive. Many thanks. We have opened a separate bank account, so the accounts are independent of other village organisations. When we have everyone s views, we will arrange an open meeting in mid February to discuss and formulate the way forward. See February Newsletter for details. Please may we have all the news, articles and events by 15 January for the February Newsletter. We will be approaching you if you do not come forward! Many thanks. David Stevens and Rosslyn Jarmey ST MARTIN S LUNCH will be held on Sunday 27 th January at 12.30pm for 1.00pm in the Village Hall. Please bring your own drinks, but soft drinks will be available. Recent Events THE CHRISTMAS BAZAAR took place in the Church on 1 December and was very well attended. There was a lot interest in all the stalls. The Cake Stall and the Plants did really well. However, three little boys, Thomas, Toby and George stole the show with their homemade cakes and biscuits. Thank you to all those who came to support us we cannot do it without you! Thank you to all who worked so hard with both the Bazaar and the Raffle. We raised a grand total of 470. The Grand Autumn Raffle raised 786.

2 FRIENDS OF ST MARTINS REPORT The Annual General Meeting was held on the 19 th November 2012 at The Dumb Post. The new committee was elected with officers and members standing as last year with the exception of Rev. Jim Scott who resigned as Chairman. Terry Satchell elected in his place. The marquee had a good year despite the wet weather and one outstanding bad debt. Thanks to all our helpers. Next year we will be slimming down the operation because the workload has become too complicated with weddings etc. Donations requested and agreed at the AGM North Wilts Holiday Club - Carol Kyte 500 Church New hymn books 400 Church Insurance 2000 Village Hall towards audio and visual equipment 1000 Defibrillator for Spirthill/Charlcutt The next event on the calendar is the annual Cheese and Wine Promises Auction, which will be held at Long Barn, Bremhill on the 8 th February by kind invitation of Richard and Caroline Dutton. Loads of promises and bidders required. Further details later. BREMHILL PARISH COUNCIL A synopsis of the meeting held on 3 December at the Moravian Room, East Tytherton. Highways. The Parish Team have filled the potholes and dug out grips around the Parish. They have replaced the collapsed drain across Bencroft Hill but not done the work at Charlcutt Hill. A JCB will be required. James Gray MP has replied regarding the concern about the Cade Burna in Hare Street. There is a lack of funding and nothing can be done. A reply from Paul Olejnik is awaited to inspect the Cade Burna to see if it can be cleared Neighbourhood Plan. At the Focus on Five meeting in October, it was stressed the importance of putting together a neighbourhood plan and that the key was the Core Strategy especially with the Planning for Chippenham. A template is hoped regarding this. There will be a sub-committee with, Mr James acting as Chairman, and representatives from each of the Wards. Mr Cook will represent Tytherton Lucas, Mr Harris Bremhill, Mr Rigby East Tytherton and Mr Rogers Foxham. Progress made will be brought to the monthly meetings for discussion. Speed of traffic through West End Foxham Several Parishoners have lodged concerns at the speed of traffic and have requested if it would be possible to reduce the speed from 40mph to 30mph. This will be discussed at the Area Board meeting. Parish Clean-up The Annual Parish clean-up will take place on the weekend of 2 March Any one interested in helping, please contact your Parish Councillor representative for your Ward. The date of the next meeting will be Monday 4th February at 7.30pm at The Moravian Room East Tytherton. Members of the Public and Press are welcome to attend. David Wilton Chairman, Elsbeth Norman, Clerk BREMHILL VILLAGE HALL Bremhill Village Hall is a pretty, listed building in the heart of the village. A former school, the hall is large enough to provide flexible accommodation for a range of activities and is available for hire. The various events throughout the year include the Garden and Produce Show (usually the first weekend in September) and the Christmas Draw and Skittles evening. This year we also collaborated with the Friends for the street party to celebrate the Queen s Diamond Jubilee. We organise and support Bonfire Night and Fireworks, for which we are hugely thankful to Colin Pearson and John Summers and their team for their fantastic organisation, wonderful display and general entertainment throughout the evening. 386 people attended! The Village Hall is now a member of Rural Arts Touring and we have already had two sell-out performances; Just Good Friends from France was a great start, then the fascinating Butterfly Effect from a brilliant and innovative Scandinavian group. We have to thank Wiltshire Council and the Arts Council for their sponsorship, but also so many people in the village who help with the catering on the night and to those who provide accommodation for the performers for the night. Our next performance will be in April; Le Navet Bete, performing Napoleon: A Defence and Extravaganza, described as a double bill of clowning antics. We are very pleased to have installed a defibrillator in the Village Hall porch, and are indebted to Jon and Fiona Burtenshaw (Active Plumbing) and to proceeds from the Tytherton Fun Ride for their generous donations towards this. The equipment is easy to use and failsafe. If a 999 call is made, the ambulance centre knows the location of our defibrillator and will give the code to access it. The hall is currently having state of the art audio-visual equipment installed, to include a ceiling mounted projector and drop-down screen. Upgraded lighting and an improved hearing loop and PA system will bring our Village Hall right up to date and offer a fantastic facility for us all. She had a wealth of such aphorisms, which she trotted out from time to time sometimes they were appropriate, though not always! But we can hope and pray that it might be an accurate forecast for our little magazine and that, one day, this little acorn will become a great oak, with its branches spreading once more over the congregations of Foxham and Derry Hill. In the meantime, let us help it grow, nurture it and care for it. Make 2013 the year in which Bremhill shows the way forward, forward to a day when differences, foolish sometimes, awkward sometimes, wrong-headed lots of times, we might have with our neighbours in Christ can be resolved. Nevertheless we are God s people all the time!! I don t know how many times over the years that I have reminded us all of that second great commandment, to love our neighbours as ourselves, so here we are again LOVE ONE ANOTHER, LOVE ONE ANOTHER, LOVE ONE ANOTHER as our gracious God loves us, even when, we don t deserve his love! Have a happy and peaceful and love filled year. Jim Scott Associate Priest

Half of all receipts will be given away in prizes. Choose whether you wish your subscription to go into the Fabric Fund or the General Fund. Plants and Bulbs. June and Philippa have been running the Plant stall for a number of years and they have raised a considerable amount of funds for the fabric of the Church. Their latest purchase is a new vacuum cleaner. THE FUTURE OF A BREMHILL COMMUNITY PUBLICATION The Parting of the Ways. There have been irreconcilable differences of opinion concerning how the Way should have been financed. The revenue from the adverts did not cover the cost of the printing for some of the Parishes. Each parish paid for the Way by means of the advertising revenue they generated. Some parishes wished to pool the advertising revenue and others did not. Bremhill made a loss of 1047 in Derry Hill felt that they could not continue to make a loss, so they decided to go it alone. Advertisers. Bremhill advertisers have been offered a proportionate refund or asked if they would waive any refund. If you hear of any Bremhill advertisers who have not been contacted, please let David Stevens (815337) know. Bremhill Future. In the short term, the Church has produced this newsletter for Bremhill with all the usual sort of information. This will be monthly from now on. However, we wish to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to have their say about its future. The views of our readers (villagers, parishioners, the PCC, the Village Hall, the Friends of St Martin, the Parish Council, the Dumb Post and advertisers) should be taken into account so that it fulfils the needs of the Community as a whole. We have already had generous offers of financial help. PLEASE TELL US YOUR VIEWS FOR FUTURE PUBLICATIONS How it should be financed in the long run (adverts and/or subs), name of the new publication, the content such as articles of local interest, would you be willing to help and how, its inclusion on Bremhill website, joining with Derry Hill or Foxham, including the Tythertons, in due course, subject to negotiations Please use this slip or us your views Financed in the long run (adverts and/or subs):.
