1 St Mary Catholic Church th Street NE Marysville, Washington Mission of St Anne 7231 Totem Beach Road (No Mail) Tulalip, WA Phone: Fax: Website: AUGUST 10, TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OUR PATRONAL FEAST THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY BY CONTEMPLATING MARY IN HEAVENLY GLORY, WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE EARTH IS NOT THE DEFIN- ITIVE HOMELAND FOR US EITHER, AND THAT IF WE LIVE WITH OUR GAZE FIXED ON ETERNAL GOODS WE WILL ONE DAY SHARE IN THIS SAME GLORY AND THE EARTH WILL BECOME MORE BEAUTIFUL. CONSEQUNTLY, WE MUST NOT LOSE OUR SERENITY AND PEACE EVEN AMID THE THOUSANDS OF DAILY DEFFICULTIES. THE LUMINOUS SIGN OF OUR LADY TAKEN UP INTO HEAVEN SHINES OUT EVEN MORE BRIGHTLY WHEN SAD SHADOWS OF SUFFERING AND VIOLANCE SEEM TO LOOM ON THE HORIZON. POPE BENEDICT XVI ST. MARY/ST. 2 OUR PRIEST ADMINISTRATOR Fr. Dwight s Message Sunday is the Lord s DAY; not the Lord s HOUR! My Dear People, For the past two weeks every time I am finishing my daily meditations, I come repeatedly to an amazing realization - Unlike the many other people who have the luxury of thinking and acting and praying according to their own geography and according to their own circumstances, because we follow Jesus Christ and are a part of this amazing Catholic Christian religion, We do not enjoy that selfish luxury of thinking according to geography, or skin color, or creed or race. Jesus calls us ALWAYS to think beyond the "paper-thin divisions" that keep us apart. Christ calls us forever Beyond - When there is one child aborted anywhere we all grieve and suffer the loss of life; When one person suffers from disease on another continent, we are in pain and distress; When there is one person hungry and suffering extreme poverty, we, as the hands and feet of Christ, are called to try and come to that person's aid wherever they may be on this globe; "What affects one of us directly, affects all of us indirectly" - we belong to each other - there is No other Gospel! We do our faith and our Savior Jesus Christ a true disservice if we think in any other way than globally, lovingly and unselfishly. "Whatsoever you do for the least of these, you do for me!" - that mantra must ring out across our Catholic Christian faith all in an effort to make Jesus Christ known... in this generation in which we live! The Gospel we proclaim and the Eucharist we eat and drink is the only permission we need to love one another - here in this wonderful parish, in our society, in our country and in our challenging world. We will continue to pray and learn and love others through the most important lens we have - the lens of Jesus Christ who fed the hungry, cured the sick, and loved people wherever they were. This is the journey for all of us... Into Holiness! Let us support one another in this most Christian path. I AM HERE TO LOVE YOU! God Bless Readings for Daily Mass August 11 Ezekiel 1:2-5, 24-28c; Matthew 17:22-27 August 12 Ezekiel 2:8-3:4; Matthew 18:1-5, 10, August 13 Ezekiel 9:1-7; 10:18-22; Matthew 18:15-20 August 14 Ezekiel 12:1-12; Matthew 18:21-19:1 August 15 Readings for the Blessed Virgin Mary can be found on page 100 and Vigil on page 98. August 16 Ezekiel 18:1-10, 13b, 30-32; Matthew 19:13-15 PRAYER LIST Bill & Connie Stolcis, Chris Stoles & Family, Cheryl & Troy La Brum & Family, Clifton & Stacy Cowan & Family, Anna M. Diner, Beca Hertzog, Pat Mc Cabe, Bea Dufour, Lorraine Magnuson, Jules Sicotte, Erlina Vintayen & the devotees of the Miraculous Medal. 3 From our Holy Father, Pope Francis Good morning, Brothers and Sisters, My brother, Pastor John, began by speaking of the center of our life: to be in the presence of Jesus. And then he said to walk in the presence of Jesus. And this was the First Commandment God gave to His people, to our Father Abraham: Go, walk in my presence and be irreproachable. And then the people walked: sometimes in the presence of the Lord, many times not in the Lord s presence. They chose idols, gods But the Lord has patience; He has patience with the people that walk. I don t understand a Christian who is still! A Christian who doesn t walk, I cannot understand! A Christian must walk! There are Christians that walk, but not in the presence of Jesus. It is necessary to pray for these brothers. Also for us, when at certain moments we don t walk in Jesus presence, because we are all also sinners, all of us! If one of you isn t a sinner, raise your hand To walk in the presence of Jesus. Christians who are still this is harmful, because what is still, which doesn t walk, is corrupted. Like still water, which is the first water to be corrupted, water that doesn t run There are Christians who confuse walking with turning. They are not walkers, they are errant and turn here and there in life. They are in a labyrinth, and wander, wander there They are lacking the parrhesia, the audacity to go forward; they are lacking hope. Christians without hope turn in life; they are not capable of going forward. We are secure only when we walk in the presence of the Lord Jesus. He illumines us; He gives us his Spirit to walk well. I think of Abraham s grandson Jacob. He was tranquil, there, with his children. However, at a certain point famine arrived, and he said to his children, to his eleven children, ten of whom were guilty of betrayal, for having sold their brother: Go to Egypt, go there and buy food, because we have money but we don t have food. Take the money and buy there, where it is said there is food. And they began their journey, but instead of finding food, they found their brother! And this is very beautiful! See part 2 next week: (
