1 Christ the Newborn King Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish December 25, 2017

2 December 25, 2017 Dear Parishioners: Greetings in the Lord Jesus Christ! Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish 2532 Vermont Street NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico In the Christmas Mass at Dawn, we hear St. Paul address the impact of Jesus birth in Titus 3:4-7 When the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared, not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, He saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He richly poured out on us through Jesus Christ our savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life. Yes, we celebrate the fact that God chose to enter our world and become one of us in order to lead us on the journey back to heaven. The love and joy that we experience in this holy season is meant to be savored throughout the year as we make our pilgrimage through life. As we embark upon the coming year, let us strive to be ever grateful for the graces we have received by the mercy of God. Let us also find ways to bring such blessing to those around us who have yet to know the goodness of the Lord. For as St. John Paul once said, We cannot stand idly by, enjoying our riches and freedom if, in any place, the Lazarus of the 21 st Century stands at our doors. In this Christmas bulletin, our parish staff shares with you the many different ministries which we have here at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish. If you attended our recent parish ministry fair on Stewardship Sunday, you are probably already familiar with the wide variety of opportunities we have to serve our sisters and brothers here at Annunciation. Please consider how you might exercise your baptismal graces and gifts by taking up one or more of our ministries described in this bulletin. May the light of Christ shine more brightly in the world today as we serve the Lord in our Church and in the broader community. May the love of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph fill your hearts at Christmas and throughout the New Year. With an assurance of prayers for you and asking God s blessings upon you, I remain Yours in Christ, Msgr. Bennett J. Voorhies Msgr. Bennett J. Voorhies Pastor PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel, centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit. 3 Liturgy and Music DR. JANE A. SMITH, DIRECTOR ROSE MARIE VIGIL, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT ASSEMBLY The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy. (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy) COMMUNION MINISTERS The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16 ) MUSIC MINISTERS & PARISH CHOIRS Make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, shout with joy before the Lord, the King! (Psalm 98) LECTORS Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall proclaim your praise! (Liturgy of the Hours) GREETERS & WELCOMERS Love your fellow Christians always. Do not neglect to show hospitality, for by that means some have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:1) ALTAR SERVERS Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God s grace in its various forms. (1 Peter 4:10 ) CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD Jesus had a child stand near him. He put his arm around the child and said, Whenever you welcome even a child because of me, you welcome me. (Mark 9:37) ART & ENVIRONMENT Because the assembly gathers in the presence of God, Liturgy s climate cannot be satisfied with anything less than the beautiful in its environment, and all its artifacts, movements, and appeals to the senses. (Environment and Art in Catholic Worship) Please keep the sick and homebound of our parish in your prayers.
