1 The Messenger ROGERSVILLE U.M.C. 51 TURNER LINDSEY ROAD ROGERSVILLE, ALABAMA Jan.-Mar., 2019 INSIDE THIS ISSUE 2 Children 3-6 Lay Leadership 7-8 Budget 9-11 News 11 Ushers and greeters Calendars 15 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES It is hard to believe that 2018 has passed and 2019 is here was a difficult year for the church. We saw the passing of many of our long-time members and good friends. I look out over the congregation now and see several places in the pews that are empty now that were previously occupied by good friends and loving members of the church. We will miss them and think of them often. But 2018 was also an amazing year in many ways. I look out now and see many new faces, young and old. I see those who have come to know Christ in the past few years and have been baptized this year. I love seeing the new babies in the church and hearing about the new babies in many of the families in the church. We are blessed with new life in many ways saw the birth of new ministries and the continuation of others. Becoming continues to grow, sees new people involved and continues to change lives and reach out to women in need. Little Lambs has brought new activity in the church during the week and I love the children who attend both the daycare and the after-school program. Every day children are being taught about Jesus and His love. But even more important they are being shown His love by the teachers and staff of the daycare and after-school program. Little Red School House and Fish and Loaves continue to reach out to the community and the school. I have watched as Celebrate has reached out to the community with no judgement or condemnation, just a place to discover Jesus and realize they are not alone in life s struggles. Bible Studies, Sunday School Classes, Children s Church, youth activities and other small groups are being the hands and love of Christ in both word and deed. We have seen new leaders step up this year to lead groups and others stepping up to take positions of leadership in the church as well. The Dream Team worked hard to develop a new vision statement that expresses who we are. Past ministries, a love for the community, developing ministries and the desire of the Dream Team to make a difference in our community, enabled us to see the vision God is calling all of us to fulfill. Rogersville United Methodist changing the community by reaching, teaching and loving. Someone asks me not long ago: Has the new vision statement made a difference in the church? I was pleased to say: When you look at the ministries of R.U.M.C., you can see how we are living out and fulfilling the vision of Reaching, Teaching and Loving. These words are the very definition of many of our ministries. Our ministries reach out to the community in many ways: through which we teach others about the love of Christ, by the love we offer to all people and in reaching out to make a difference in the lives of those whom we touch. Yes 2018 was difficult as we lost many of our friends and members. But I choose to look at all that has been accomplished in 2018, and I know that if in 2019 we continue reaching out, teaching people about Christ and showing and living the love of Christ to all people then we will continue to see new people coming to know Christ, be baptized, worship with us and many new leaders being developed in the church. Jesus said go into all the world and teach them and baptize them in the name of Jesus Christ. Brothers and sisters in Christ: We have been and continue to live out the great commission! 1
