Diocesan Youth Mission Trip to Appalachia From June 24th through the 30th, Jay Freeman, the Whiteley Family and Deacon Michele were among the adults and youths who traveled to Appalachia coal country on a Diocesan Youth Mission Trip. This is the fourth consecutive year the Diocese of Bethlehem has sponsored a trip to Grace House on the Mountain. Grace House, located in St. Paul, Virginia, was founded by Deaconesses in the 1900 s to provide social justice and advocacy for local families. Grace House is a nonprofit charity supported by the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Virginia. Each year, in addition to making personal connections to Virginia families, our youth strengthens their relationships within the Diocese of Bethlehem. Volunteers from five Episcopal churches worked together donating muscle power, elbow grease and material to complete home projects. 3 Its almost time for Sunday School! Sunday School will begin on September 9th at 10:00 am in the upstairs classrooms in the Church. Children ages 3-14 are invited to attend. Classes will be grouped by ages of: 3 yrs. 6 yrs.; 7 9 yrs., yrs., and a new year old class. With the departure of Barbara Emert, we are looking for at least one teacher. Experience is not required; however, you will have to complete the Diocese s Sexual Harassment Training Program. You can have your choice of the grade you wish to teach and can teach on a weekly or substitute basis. If interested, contact Chris Nelson or Barbara Cramer. Blessing of the Backpacks On Sunday, August 26th at the 10:15 a.m. service, we will be blessing students backpacks and teachers bags that are used for education. This blessing of backpacks and bags is open to everyone, school age through college level, so bring a friend! After the service we will gather in the Fellowship Hall to decorate name tags for the backpacks. A God s Got Your Back tag will be provided for individuals to color, followed by the laminating of each tag. Please see Deacon Michele for any questions. 6 On Saturday, September 15th, at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 Tilghman Street; The Reverend Canon Kevin D. Nichols will be ordained and consecrated a Bishop in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church, and IX Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem. The Most Reverend Michael B. Curry, Presiding Bishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church, will be the Chief Consecrator. The Right Reverend A. Robert Hirschfeld, Bishop of New Hampshire will preach. All are invited to this momentous occasion. Please plan on arriving early before the processions begin. Following the service, a reception and luncheon will take place on the campus of First Presbyterian. For further information, please refer to diobeth.org and click on Bishop Search and Transition. The Weis Register Tape Rebate Program is still in effect for our church. So how does it work you ask simple. Just save your register receipts when you shop at Weis, then bring them to church with you and place them in the bowl on the right-side table in the narthex. For each submission, Christ Church receives 1% of the total amount of tapes submitted. It adds up and the monies received go into our operating account. A great help for the church budget.
