TRINITY Lutheran Church 3040 Town Avenue New Port Richey, FL tlctrinity.org Pastor: Marc E. Nauman Assistant Pastor: Dr. Arnold Kromphardt Organist: Kaethe Mead Director of Music & Visual Arts: Cap Rocap Church Phone: Changing lives by sharing the love and life of Jesus Christ Welcome! We re glad to have you worship with us today October 26, 2014 Saturday Service: 6 p.m. Sunday Services: 8:30 & 10:30 a.m. Confirmation & Bible Study: 9:30 a.m. Trinity Lutheran Church is a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
Order of Service for Reformation Sunday Welcome: Pastor Marc E. Nauman The Altar Flowers this Sunday are to celebrate Sarah Nauman's 10th birthday. Bible Verse for October For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24 Children s Blessing (second service) Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Congregation: Amen. Welcome New Members to Trinity Lutheran Church We welcome the following people into membership: John Gall, Alvin Benes, Diane Bryant, Joyce Tomasello, Linda Glosson, Ken and Thea Smeets, James Landeras Jr., Patricia Payne, Daniel and Katie Havekotte, Riley Susan and Regan Danielle Havekotte, Schawn and Jackie Flores, Caleb Davenport, Taylor and Ariah Flores Opening Hymn First Service: #297 A Mighty Fortress Second Service: Blessed Be Your Name (displayed) The Confession and Forgiveness Pastor: O Lord, open my lips, Congregation: And my mouth will declare Your praise. Pastor: Make haste, O God, to deliver me; Congregation: Make haste to help me, O Lord. (Silence for reflection and self-examination) 2
Congregation: Almighty God, we confess to You that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We flee for refuge to Your boundless mercy, seeking Your grace. For the sake of Your Son, forgive us. By Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and Your will and true obedience to Your Word. Amen. Absolution of Sins Song of Response First Service: #334 Lord, Keep Us Steadfast In Your Word Second Service: Bless The Lord (displayed) The Collect of the Day Pastor: Almighty God, we pray, show your humble servants your mercy that we, who put no trust in our own merits, may be dealt with not according to the severity of your judgment, but according to your mercy; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Congregation: Amen. The Reading of God s Word: Romans 3:19-24, 28 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it; the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. 3
The Gospel: Matthew 22:34-46 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." They answered him, "We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, 'You will become free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father. They answered him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing what Abraham did, but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. You are doing what your father did." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father even God." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but He sent me. Elder: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Congregation: Praise to You, O Christ. The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 4
Hymn Of The Day #354 I Know My Faith Is Founded The Message: Set Free Song Of The Day Second Service: Mighty To Save (displayed) Prayers of the Church Pastor: Lord, in Your Mercy Congregation: Hear our prayer! The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Offering Please fill out the red Friendship Folder for your row then pass it to the person next to you. The Noisy Offering supports Trinity s Youth Group Children return to the Sanctuary (second service) The Lord s Supper Pastor: The Lord be with you. Congregation: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. Congregation: We lift them to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Congregation: It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Admonition Sharing of the Lord s Peace 5
Sanctus Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Pax Domini The Peace of the Lord The Distribution of the Bread and Wine Post Communion Collect Congregation: We give thanks to you, Almighty God, that you have refreshed us through this Sacrament. We ask that, in Your mercy, you would strengthen us in faith towards You, and in love towards one another through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen. The Benediction Pastor: The LORD bless you and keep you. The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The LORD look upon you with favor and give you peace. Congregation: Amen.
