5 Update from Board of Elders September Meeting Wheelchair Lift Project: Pat Evans reported a $3,500 increase in cost, but with some other modifications and volunteer labour the total budget may stay on target.the grant was approved for $34, Timeline for installation: planned mid-october. Church must have electrical done, new door for Sunday school room installed, mailbox moved and bottom step altered. Fresh Start Program: First session Sunday, September 28, 2104 from 12:30 4:30 pm. Relocation of Choir Room: Needs more discussion, Meeting planned after worship on Oct 19th to consider all Pros & Cons. Jan and Chelsea will facilitate, childcare will be provided. Correspondence: Resignations from Marilyn Piotrowski (June), Faye Moria Fedrau (July) and Lorenz Fedrau (August) were received with regret, but with sincere appreciation for years of volunteer support. Special Guests: Grace Roth presented the work she and Vicki McCaig have completed with the Archive project, submissions are welcome from the congregation, a display is planned at a future coffee time. Ted Sherring reminded the Board to work with committees to prepare budgets for next year, critically analyzing each line item for amount as well as inclusion. A preliminary draft will be done by the October Board meeting. Finance & Stewardship will meet each month the Tuesday before the Board meeting. Communication: Website redevelopment will be explored, report to Oct mtg. Board Accountability Update Oct 5 after worship, topics include Fresh Start update, Committee and Board Membership drive, Wheelchair Lift Project, Pastoral Care Committee. First Quarterly Newsletter planned for October will be drafted by AnnaMarie Hancock, submissions requested from all. Al Olson is new representative to Presbytery. Ministers Notes: Jan planning series of lectures on the old Testament that are open to the community. Chelsea considering sessions in January Women, Wine and Worship and Church in a Pub. Jan planning confirmation class with Fifth Avenue Memorial sleepover with dessert provided by the Board Ministers are also doing a service at Teoda Lodge and Masterpiece Retirement Residence.

6 Catherine Christie, (Saskatchewan Conference) On Mid-term Home Assignment while serving The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea As Overseas Personnel appointed to serve both the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea (PROK) and the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK), Catherine Christie has been assigned to the PROK General Assembly office in Seoul. Among other tasks, she assists with English-language communication work to facilitate Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea relationships with its partner churches around the world. She also participates in the life and work of a local PROK congregation in Seoul, and is involved in wider church work as well. Her continuing challenge is learning the Korean language! The Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea has a central focus of working for justice and peace. This is defined as justice for all, particularly for those most vulnerable and those who are marginalized, gender justice, justice for the earth, reconciliation and reunification of the divided Korean people, and peace for the Korean peninsula, Northeast Asia region and wider world. Deeply committed to the international ecumenical movement, the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea works in active solidarity with some thirty partner churches and organizations around the world. The National Council of Churches in Korea joins in ecumenical commitment eight Christian denominations and numerous organizations in Korea. Its work includes efforts for church unity and ecumenical theology, for peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula, and a focus on programs that promote church participation in social movements and efforts for bringing justice to the entire society. It hosted the World Council of Churches 10th General Assembly in 2013 in Busan under the theme God of life, lead us to justice and peace.
