1 Evangel Nov. 15, 2018 Sunday Thanksgiving Worship service and Turkey lunch, November 18 th - this Sunday Beacons of Our Praise Calvary Church has invited St. Paul's Church to Worship service at 9:30AM on Sunday, November 18th and they will be hosting a turkey lunch after the service. So far, 30 members have signed up to attend. Calvary is reaching out to St. Paul's members because of the warm welcome they received at Rally Day. We encourage all of St. Paul's members to attend and get to know the members of Calvary! The members of St. Paul's are providing desserts. They are eager for us to visit and join in fellowship time. If you would like to carpool, please speak to Sabrina Huntoon The Board of Trustees is trying to raise money for two repairs to beacons of our praise. The first is our organ which needs repair and the cost of this is about $1800. Second, the lights in the cross on the top of the steeple do not work. This was brought to our attention by a community member that uses our cross to pray to and they are not a regular church goer. This is a testament to the beacon St Pauls serves to Menomonee Falls. We have tried to repair the lights but have not been successful, so we need to bring in a contractor who will replace the neon with LED. The cost of the conversion is around $1200. We are looking to raise matching funds to a contribution from the Memorial Fund. The Memorial Fund will contribute $1500 and we are looking for the congregation to donate the other $1500. We are about half way to the match, so we would appreciate your financial support, so we can get these things repaired before the Christmas season. We will be baking cookies together at church, but if you are unable to join us, we would love it if you could bake cookies on your own and bring them to church for the sale.

2 Cookie Walk, Saturday, Dec 8 th Women's Fellowship will be hosting the annual Cookie Walk fundraiser on December 8th from 2pm - 4pm. We are in need of your help with baking and working the sale, and we are also looking for donations of ingredients to make the cookies. We will be baking cookies together at church, but if you are unable to join us, we would love it if you could bake cookies on your own and bring them to church for the sale. Kids Church Book Drive The Kids Church book drive for the Ronald McDonald House has been extended through Thanksgiving. Any member of Christian Ed can accept cash as well; to do the shopping of NEW books for you! Upcoming Event Dates As we look forward to the upcoming holidays, Christmas comes to mind. As part of our 150th celebration we would like to once again have the Poinsettia Tree adorn our sanctuary. In order to do this, we will need 60 poinsettias. You came through beautifully for our Easter Cross and I am hoping that we will once again have enough poinsettias to make the tree. We will be hosting the Handbells Horns and Harmony Concert to Benefit the Falls Area Food Pantry. This will be held Friday, December 14 th, and everyone is invited. We will need to assemble the Tree on Sunday December 9 th so all orders for poinsettias will need to be in by December 2 nd. You will find an order form in the bulletin. Thank you everyone! One of St Pauls members has made a suggestion that we have a special ornament made with the 150 th logo design on it. There have been special mementos from past celebrations and this was deemed an excellent suggestion. A supplier has been found to make up an ornament. We will plan to sell them for $5.00 each and will have them first available at the upcoming concert event December 14 th. I am very excited to be able to offer these ornaments. We are not planning on taking orders but If you are interested in having one (or more) of these ornaments feel free to leave me or our secretary a message. Chris Sparrow St Pauls, while celebrating 150 years, has a very special opportunity to offer to the greater Menomonee Falls community and even beyond the village borders. We will be hosting an exceptional music concert event December 14 th 7:30 PM. Susan Krivichi has coordinated 4

outstanding musical groups to offer an evening of special Christmas music. We would love to have our entire congregation in attendance.

We will be posting flyers around the community, and passing out invitations. We encourage everyone to join the effort. The concert will be a benefit for the Falls Food Pantry.

General Synod 2019 Volunteering 101 The Wisconsin Conference is excited to host the 32nd General Synod of the UCC (our national gathering)! While volunteer registration won't open until January, three to four hundred volunteers will be needed throughout the five days of General Synod next June and we will need your help! Message from Pastor Jim Thanks I saw a note on Facebook a week or so ago. It was from a friend, a professor of literature at a college in Virginia. I've known her since she was an infant. She has a very precocious 10 year old son named Noah. She's always posting pictures he's drawn, or wisdom he says. This was the note: N: Wow, thank you. Me: You re welcome. N: Oh I wasn t talking to you. I was talking to...the cosmos. Anne Lamott has a series of books on faith. She is very funny and insightful. One of her books is about the three essential prayers and they are in the book's title. "Help, Thanks, Wow" She's a recovering alcoholic and she prays for "help" to stay sober. And she prays expressing her thanks for all she has, her friends, her grandson. And when at a loss, she says "Wow" just as Noah did. Wow for all that is and has been and will be in the loving embrace of God. We're in the season of giving Thanks. And it is meet and right so to do. Giving thanks reorders how we view our world. It's just so easy to complain about things. There is much to complain about and obsess over.. But giving thanks is just so right and I, for one, don't do that enough. I do give thanks though. Just now for these two congregations struggling to find their way in this new adventure of sharing a ministry and a minister. The grace and patience it takes to do all that with uncertainties facing us. There is much to worry about, but giving thanks for opportunities ahead is the right thing to do.

So, with Noah, I pray two of Lamott's essential prayers. Wow and Thank you to the Cosmos and the God the creator of the cosmos for all God has done and continues to do for each and all.
