3 December 30, Page 3 Weekly Reflection/Reflexión Semanal HOME IS WHERE THE FAMILY IS The idea, dream, and reality of family is so strong and durable that we use it to describe all that is best about human gatherings. We speak of the family of na ons, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family. Families are the first crucibles in which love is tested and tempered. Jesus himself was one of three people who lived in the shadow of each other. This family, like our own, did not always get it right, but they always tried to. These three amateurs were on holiday, and one of them got lost. Two were worried sick and took great measures to find the third, a boy a er all, who was seeking the meaning of his calling. EN EL HOGAR ESTÁ LA FAMILIA La idea, el sueño y la realidad de lo que es familia es tan fuerte y perdurable que lo usamos para describir lo mejor de las relaciones humanas. Hablamos de una familia de naciones, de nuestra familia eclesial y parroquial. El mejor halago que podemos dar a un amigo o amable anfitrión es decirle que nos sen mos como en casa con su compañía, que nos sen mos parte de la familia. Las familias son el primer crisol en el que se prueba y se fortalece el amor. Jesús mismo fue una de tres personas que vivía a la sombra del otro. Esta familia, como la nuestra, no siempre lo hacía todo bien, pero siempre trataba. Estos tres amateurs celebraban un día de fiesta, y uno de ellos se perdió. Los otros dos se preocuparon bastante y se esforzaron grandemente para encontrar al tercero, un niño después de todo, que siempre buscaba el significado de su llamado. Whoever honors his father atones for sins, and preserves himself from them. When he prays, he is heard; he stores up riches who reveres his mother. Whoever honors his father is gladdened by children, and, when he prays, is heard. Whoever reveres his father will live a long life; he who obeys his father brings comfort to his mother. My son, take care of your father when he is old; grieve him not as long as he lives. Gospel LK 2:41-52 Each year Jesus parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety. And he said to them, Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father s house? But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.

7 The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Primera lectura 1 Sm 1, En aquellos días, Ana concibió, dio a luz un hijo y le puso por nombre Samuel, diciendo: "Al Señor se lo pedí". Después de un año, Elcaná, su marido, subió con toda la familia para hacer el sacrificio anual para honrar al Señor y para cumplir la promesa que habían hecho, pero Ana se quedó en su casa. Un tiempo después, Ana llevó a Samuel, que todavía era muy pequeño, a la casa del Señor, en Siló, y llevó también un novillo de tres años, un costal de harina y un odre de vino. Una vez sacrificado el novillo, Ana presentó el niño a Elí y le dijo: "Escúchame, señor: te juro por mi vida que yo soy aquella mujer que estuvo junto a ti, en este lugar, orando al Señor. Éste es el niño que yo le pedía al Señor y que él me ha concedido. Por eso, ahora yo se lo ofrezco al Señor, para que le quede consagrado de por vida". Y adoraron al Señor. Señor, dichosos los que viven en tu casa. Segunda Lectura 1 Jn 3, Queridos hijos: Miren cuánto amor nos ha tenido el Padre, pues no sólo nos llamamos hijos de Dios, sino que lo somos. Si el mundo no nos reconoce, es porque tampoco lo ha reconocido a él. Hermanos míos, ahora somos hijos de Dios, pero aún no se ha manifestado cómo seremos al fin. Y ya sabemos que, cuando él se manifieste, vamos a ser semejantes a él, porque lo veremos tal cual es. Si nuestra conciencia no nos remuerde, entonces, hermanos míos, nuestra confianza en Dios es total. Puesto que cumplimos los mandamientos de Dios y hacemos lo que le agrada, ciertamente obtendremos de él todo lo que le pidamos. Ahora bien, éste es su mandamiento: que creamos en la persona de Jesucristo, su Hijo, y nos amemos los unos a La Sagrada Familia de Jesus, Maria y Jose los otros, conforme al precepto que nos dio. Quien cumple sus mandamientos permanece en Dios y Dios en él. En esto conocemos, por el Espíritu que él nos ha dado, que él permanece en nosotros. Aclamación antes del Evangelio. R. Aleluya, aleluya. Abre, Señor, nuestros corazones, para que aceptemos las palabras de tu Hijo. R. Aleluya. Evangelio Lc 2, Los padres de Jesús solían ir cada año a Jerusalén para las festividades de la Pascua. Cuando el niño cumplió doce años, fueron a la fiesta, según la costumbre. Pasados aquellos días, se volvieron, pero el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, sin que sus padres lo supieran. Creyendo que iba en la caravana, hicieron un día de camino; entonces lo buscaron, y al no encontrarlo, regresaron a Jerusalén en su busca. Al tercer día lo encontraron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas. Todos los que lo oían se admiraban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas. Al verlo, sus padres se quedaron atónitos y su madre le dijo: "Hijo mío, por qué te has portado así con nosotros? Tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando llenos de angustia". Él les respondió: " Por qué me andaban buscando? No sabían que debo ocuparme en las cosas de mi Padre?" Ellos no entendieron la respuesta que les dio. Entonces volvió con ellos a Nazaret y siguió sujeto a su autoridad. Su madre conservaba en su corazón todas aquellas cosas. Jesús iba creciendo en saber, en estatura y en el favor de Dios y de los hombres.
