2 November 18 - "A Presbyterian's Story of His Path to Contemplative Silence" with Mark Ladd, at 9:30 a.m. in Koinonia Hall. A Presbyterian and certified Centering Prayer presenter, Ladd will share his journey and give an introduction to Centering Prayer. November 28 th December 18 th - An Advent Study group will meet for the four Wednesdays of Advent under the leadership of Rev. Lee Walters. The group will meet from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in Koinonia Hall. LET'S GO FOR A WALK WITH CINDY PIATT! Cindy Piatt went on the Camino Walk in Spain last month. On next Wednesday, October 24th, Cindy will have a slide presentation in Koinonia Hall at 6:00 p.m. For many of us who are not familiar with the walk, it is the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St James), a network of pilgimage to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the catedral of Santiago de Compostella in Galacia in Northwester Spain where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are burried. Today, hundreds of thousands (over 300,000 in 2017)[25] of Christian pilgrims and many others set out each year from their homes or from popular starting points across Europe, to make their way to Santiago de Compostela. Most travel by foot, some by bicycle, and a few [quantify] travel as some of their medieval counterparts did, on horseback or by donkey (for example, the British author and humorist Tim Moore). In addition to those undertaking a religious pilgrimage, many are hikers who walk the route for travel or sport. Also, many consider the experience a spiritual retreat from modern life. Cindy went on the Camino Francés, or French Way, which is the most popular. The Via Regia is the last portion of the (Camino Francés). Historically, because of the Codex Calixtinus, most pilgrims came from France: typically from Arles, Le Puy, Paris, and Vézelay; some from Saint Gilles. Cluny, site of the celebrated medieval abbey, was another important rallying point for pilgrims and, in 2002, it was integrated into the official European pilgrimage route linking Vézelay and Le Puy.

3 THERE S SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN! That means the weather is turning cold and the homeless have a difficult time keeping warm on the cold nights if they cannot find shelter. Santa Fe Need and Deed is seeking winter items such as coats, gloves and hats. They may be left i in the barrel n Koinonia Hall. Thank you. This Sunday's fellowship hour will be a true potluck affair. You are asked to bring an item of food that you wish to share to be put on the serving table. Let's see what a wide variety of food we can come up with! Contemplative Silence ~ Tuesday Mornings at 10:30 ~ Contemplative Outreach of New Mexico

4 The following article on Contemplative Silence appeared in the newsletter of First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe. Contemplative Silence as a Spiritual Practice By Jeannie Bowman, Spiritual Director In the first half of my Christian life, I suppose I believed that all prayer, whether silent or spoken, was on my terms. In other words, I did the speaking and hoped that God would do the listening and act upon my supplications. In the late nineties, I was introduced to Quaker Meeting for Worship, a style of worship in which the congregation sits in silence and listens for the messages of the Holy Spirit. What a novel way of praying simply sitting and waiting for the Word of the Lord to come to us! Over time, my thinking has matured in how one might listen to the Holy in the silence. Never yet perfect in the process, we can understand that the silence is space for the Holy Spirit to speak, to leave impressions, to speak through a language that is one of clarity at times, and at other times, the message to wait is the answer. And always, to allow ourselves to sense God s love On Tuesday mornings, we experience a time of contemplative silence at Westminster Presbyterian. There in the silence of the small sanctuary, big things are happening to all of us who sit in 20-minute silent segments, waiting on God to love us, to teach us, to direct our paths, and to lead us in understanding how we are to act upon the injustices of the world in which we live. Sometimes, we go away having received direction and understanding. More often, we leave with a sense gratitude in knowing that we have been in the Presence of God. Come, join us at 10:30 on Tuesday mornings if you are looking for the silence of rest and restoration. TAIZÉ SERVICE EVERY THURSDAY AT 5:30 P.M. Taizé has resumed the regular Fall schedule of meeting every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. through May of All are invited this Thursday to this service of prayer and song.
