Let Us Pray Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! -Psalm 141:2 Prayer is not a hard requirement it is the natural duty of a creature to its creator, the simplest homage that human need can pay to divine liberality. -Charles Spurgeon Prayer is never the first word. It is always the second word. God has the first word. Prayer is answering speech; it is not primarily "address" but "response." Essential to the practice of prayer is to fully realize this secondary quality. -Eugene Peterson Just do it! - Nike I m not sure why, but sometimes we see prayer as sort of a duty and not a privilege. The great preacher Charles Spurgeon was 100% correct. Prayer is not a hard requirement. And then the late Presbyterian scholar Eugene Peterson was always quick to remind his readers that prayer is simply answer God who is always speaking to us. Peterson s words have stuck with me since I first read them 25 years ago. Let us pray. Is not just a rote phrase. They are words of obedience and gratitude and even grace. As leave (hopefully) the frozen days of winter behind and move closer to the season of Lent, one of the amazing privileges you and I have, but likely need to place into greater practice, is prayer. 2 On February 10 th at 4:00 p.m. I plan to attend, and you are invited too, to a prayer gathering at Word of Grace Fellowship. We are calling it the Super Prayer Sunday: Community Prayer Gathering. There has been a large group of pastors praying together on a monthly basis; prayer gatherings like this are the next logical step in this effort. It is my hope that the Presbyterian Church of Marion will host one of the gatherings in the upcoming months. Whether you attend such a gathering or not, my big encouragement this month is prayer. It s not hard, but sometimes we just have to stop and then just do it as a famous shoe manufactory once promoted. Exercise your privilege. Just do it! Let us pray. 3 SUPER PRAYER SUNDAY The Sunday following what is commonly known as Superbowl Sunday, a church in Indiana PA will gather for what we are dubbing "Super Prayer Sunday". In conjunction with the Indiana Community Prayer Initiative we are calling on churches and local Christians to gather for a time of prayer together for the Indiana area, at Word of Grace Fellowship on the corner of 5th and Grant St. This gathering will include a time of prayer and worship. All are welcome. No childcare- Nursing Room available. Pysanky Egg Decorating Lent is coming and so is the Pysanky Egg Decorating Class. Susie Enoch will once again lead a class that will run on Sunday evenings from 6:00 8:00 p.m. during Lent. The first class will be March 3 rd. If you would like to join Susie, please sign the sheet on the bulletin board in the Narthex. Kits will again cost $10, and for those returning, the cost is $2 to cover supplies. Have any questions, just ask Susie.

4 WALK TO EMMAUS Have you given this any thought? A Walk to Emmaus weekend may be the greatest gift you will ever receive. The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The experience is a three-day short course in Christianity comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. There are Walk to Emmaus communities throughout the world, the closest to Marion Center is the Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus which is based out of Pittsburgh. The next Walk to Emmaus weekends are scheduled for October for men and October for women. We cannot recommend these weekends any higher; for many people they are a highlight of their walk with Jesus Christ. Mark your calendars now!
