His was no abstract tru at followed logic s rules, his was not ick dogma taught in Rabbinic schools. They shared his nights and days and saw his healing hand, ey fed on every word and felt eir souls expand. Then when e time was ripe for em to wonder why, he rust e question out and waited eir reply. Peter first saw e light of is new-world frontier, and spoke confounding words at Caesars came to fear. Ó B D Prewer 1996

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of e Faer, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away e sin of e world: have mercy on us; you are seated at e right hand of e Faer: receive our prayer. For you alone are e Holy One, you alone are e Lord, you alone are e Most High, Jesus Christ, wi e Holy Spirit, in e glory of God e Faer. Amen. The Collect of e Day Celebrant Let us pray. The community prays silently. The celebrant says e collect. Almighty God, we are taught by your word at all our doings wiout love are wor noing. Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts at most excellent gift of love, e true bond of peace and of all virtue; rough Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns wi you and e Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The Proclamation of e Word A READING FROM THE BOOK OF EXODUS Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. He said to his people, "Look, e Israelite people are more numerous and more powerful an we. Come, let us deal shrewdly wi em, or ey will increase and, in e event of war, join our enemies and fight against us and escape from e land." Therefore ey set taskmasters over em to oppress em wi forced labour. They built supply cities, Piom and Rameses, for Pharaoh. But e more ey were oppressed, e more ey multiplied and spread, so at e Egyptians came to dread e Israelites. The Egyptians became ruless in imposing tasks on e Israelites, and made eir lives bitter wi hard service in mortar and brick and in every kind of field labour. They were ruless in all e tasks at ey imposed on em. The king of Egypt said to e Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and e oer Puah, "When you act as midwives to e Hebrew women, and see em on e birstool, if it is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, she shall live." But e midwives feared God; ey did not do as e king of Egypt commanded em, but ey let e boys live. So e king of Egypt summoned e midwives and said to em, "Why have you done is, and allowed e boys to live?" The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because e Hebrew women are not like e Egyptian women; for ey are vigorous and give bir before e midwife comes to em." So God dealt well wi e midwives; and e people multiplied and became very strong. And because e midwives feared God, he gave em families. Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, "Every boy at is born to e Hebrews you shall row into e Nile, but you shall let every girl live." Now a man from e house of Levi went and married a Levite woman. The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw at he was a fine baby, she hid him ree mons. When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it wi bitumen and pitch; she put e child in it and placed it among e reeds on e bank of e river. His sister stood at a distance, to see what would happen to him. The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bae at e river, while her attendants walked beside e river. She saw e basket among e reeds and sent her maid to bring it. When she opened it, she saw e child. He was crying, and she took pity on him, "This must be one of e Hebrews' children," she said. Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and get you a nurse from e Hebrew women to nurse e child for you?" Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Yes." So e girl went and called e child's moer. Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take is child and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages." So e woman took e child and nursed it. When e child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and she took him as her son. She named him Moses, "because," she said, "I drew him out of e water." EXODUS 1:8-2:10 The Word of e Lord. Thanks be to God.
3 PSALM REFRAIN - Our help is in e name of e Lord. If e Lord had not been on our side, let Israel now say; if e Lord had not been on our side, when enemies rose up against us; en would ey have swallowed us up alive in eir fierce anger toward us; Then would e waters have overwhelmed us and e torrent gone over us; en would e raging waters have gone right over us. Blessed be e Lord! he has not given us over to be a prey for eir tee. We have escaped like a bird from e snare of e fowler; e snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in e name of e Lord, e maker of heaven and ear. R PSALM 124 A READING FROM THE LETTER OF PAUL TO THE ROMANS I appeal to you erefore, broers and sisters, by e mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to is world, but be transformed by e renewing of your minds, so at you may discern what is e will of God - what is good and acceptable and perfect. For by e grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to ink of yourself more highly an you ought to ink, but to ink wi sober judgement, each according to e measure of fai at God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and not all e members have e same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of anoer. We have gifts at differ according to e grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to fai; ministry, in ministering; e teacher, in teaching; e exhorter, in exhortation; e giver, in generosity; e leader, in diligence; e compassionate, in cheerfulness. ROMANS 12:1-8 The Word of e Lord. Thanks be to God. Gospel Procession #484 In Christ There Is No East or West Reader The Lord be wi you. People And also wi you. THE HOLY GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO MATTHEW People Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ Now when Jesus came into e district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say at e Son of Man is?" And ey said, "Some say John e Baptist, but oers Elijah, and still oers Jeremiah or one of e prophets." He said to em, "But who do you say at I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are e Messiah, e Son of e living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed is to you, but my Faer in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on is rock I will build my church, and e gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you e keys of e kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on ear will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on ear will be loosed in heaven." Then he sternly ordered e disciples not to tell anyone at he was e Messiah. MATTHEW 16:13-20 The Gospel of Christ. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Sermon The Creed United wi Christians all over e world, we join in professing our fai as we say, I believe in God, e Faer almighty, creator of heaven and ear. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by e power of e Holy Spirit and born of e Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to e dead. On e ird day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at e right hand of e Faer. He will come again to judge e living and e dead. I believe in e Holy Spirit, e holy caolic Church, e communion of saints, e forgiveness of sins, e resurrection of e body, and e life everlasting. Amen. The Prayers of e People Please kneel or sit for e prayers Refrain: Lord, hear our prayer. We have not loved you wi our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. In him, you have brought us out of error into tru, out of sin into righteousness, out of dea into life. On e night he was handed over to suffering and dea, a dea he freely accepted, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given anks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, Take, eat: is is my body which is given for you. Do is for e remembrance of me. After supper he took e cup of wine; and when he had given anks, he gave it to em, and said, Drink is, all of you: is is my blood of e new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for e forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do is for e remembrance of me. Let us proclaim e mystery of fai. Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
