5 Thank You to all who honored or memorialized these saints in the past month: In Memory: Mike Hayes, Sr. Matthew McCray Spencer McKee In Honor: Jan Kennedy Bob & Jane West Keith & Amby Taylor Pete Gammon Glady Holton William Doares Karen Fisher Dunlap UMC Report Nineteen people attended the February meeting of the United Ministry Council on Wednesday night, the 28 th. A few items of information to pass on are these: Preparations for installation of the new heating/air conditioning system in the sanctuary are progressing and we anticipate that the work can be done sometime in April and/or May. Depending on how the schedule works out, there may be some Sunday(s) when we will need to move the worship service to Asbury Hall during those months. Also, refurbishment and repair projects are beginning in the church parlor. Please check with someone in the church office if you have activities that you considered holding there in the next few months. The ACT campaign is still requesting and accepting donations toward completion of the HVAC system and purchase of a church bus. A proposed church budget for 2018 was brought for approval by the United Ministry Council. After some discussion, the motion to accept a 2018 budget of $556,475 was placed on the floor for action. This amount is $29,891 above the 2017 church budget and $4,280 above the actual budget expenditures in The 2018 budget of $556,475 was approved unanimously. Because of a scheduling issue, the March meeting of the United Ministry Council was canceled, with the understanding that if any business arises that needs to be brought before the UMC, this could be communicated to the chair and a meeting in March could then be scheduled. The next regular meeting of the United Ministry Council is now scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 th.

7 WORDS FROM THE PASTOR Evidence of the Resurrection Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-28 In the above passage, the Apostle Paul writes to one of his most problematic congregations. His correspondence with the people of Corinth would result in several letters; three of which have survived through the ages and are preserved/canonized in the Bible, and are authoritative for Christians. It seems based on the Apostles response, there was questioning around the factuality of the Resurrection. Perhaps no other doctrine of the Christian faith has received the scrutiny as the Resurrection has. It truly is the scandal of our faith. Yet, on the doctrine of the Resurrection hangs the essence of our faith! Jesus life and death would have resulted in a very brief lived religious fad were it not for the resurrection. Had the disciples not been truly convinced of Jesus resurrection, there would be no Christian religion. They were commissioned by the risen Christ to go forth and bear witness to the fact. In today s text, Paul says, For I delivered to you as of first importance. He then recites an early affirmation of the faith: Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the scripture. As evidence of Jesus resurrection, Paul declares that Christ appeared to Cephas then to the entire group of the first disciples, and then He publicly appeared to more than 500, some of whom were still alive at the time of his writing, and finally Paul himself was visited by the risen Christ. Noteworthy here is that there is no mention of Christ appearing to the women as we have recorded in the Gospels. Also of note is that he, Paul, is simply handing down to the receivers of the letter that which he had received from those before him. All of which is a reminder! Each Sunday, we gather as a community of faith to be reminded and to remind each other that we Worship a once dead yet resurrected Savior. Because Christ lives, reigns and holds the keys to death, hell and the grave, we have hope beyond this life. Thus, it is our belief in the resurrection that offers us hope. For if we have hope in this life only, we are women and men to be pitied. If there is no resurrection, we are without hope, the message we speak is a lie and we remain dead in our trespasses and sins. Furthermore, our affirmation and belief in the Communion of the Saints, is naïve and foolish thinking. For without the resurrection, those who died before us died in vain. However, there is resurrection, the cause of which enables us to live the present with full faith and assurance that God holds our future. Should one need further proof of the factuality of the resurrection, show up on any Sunday morning, within any denomination, within any congregation, and there one will find further proof. Pews of congregations arise and sing their faith each Lord s Day reminding each other and the world that: "I serve a risen Savior he s in the world today. I know that he is living, whatever foes may say. I see his hand of mercy, I hear his voice of cheer, and just the time I need him, he s always near. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life s narrow way. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today! You ask me how I know he lives, he lives within my heart." I believe!
