We are moving towards seeing many of our goals for 2017 become reality. This is because of the power of the Spirit, prayers and the combined commitment of those who call CSUMC home. Though it is beyond the scope of this writing to share every detail, I will summarize and highlight some major items. Finance: I predict by the end of the year, we will have achieved our goal of becoming financially stable enough to have three months of operating cost on hand. Through the first half of this year, we have raised 3% above budget and spent 13% less than budgeted. In addition, pledges for the year are up to date, non-pledged giving is up, as well as loose change offerings. Missions: We continue to host the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) office while continuing and maintaining our support for local non-profits (e.g. Robeson County Church and Community Center, Rape Crisis Center, My Refuge, Hope s Table, After School Lunches. Communities in School, Bag Lunches, etc.). I believe one of the best ways CSUMC is involved in the long-term recovery efforts from Hurricane Matthew is by doing all within our means to be accommodating to UMCOR and the work teams housed at CSUMC. It is estimated 2,500 people have stayed at CSUMC while participating on work teams within our community. In addition, there is the day-to-day mission and ministry through the front door of our church. Education: We offer a number of opportunities for learning. Sadly, many do not make good use of these opportunities. Sunday school for all ages; Women s Circles, Youth, Men s group, Prison Ministry, Bible Studies, Wednesday Nite Live, Worship, VBS, etc. Attendance: Our average attendance in Worship has increased ever so slightly. One reason for this increase is due to the fact we have work teams and NOMADS visiting with us regularly. I hope we will continue to build on these goals until all become a reality. I encourage each of us to give our best for Jesus sake. Where do we go from here? Worship, Welcome and Nurture as We Serve Christ in Love. One of our priorities regarding tangibles is to replace the grossly outdated heating and air conditioning system. Our system has been on life support for the past decade. We suspect the cost to replace the system will be approximately $125, We hope to do the work during early fall or spring. This is due to the fact it will take several days (weeks) to complete and these particular times of the year may be described as those in between times (e.g. not too hot, not too cold). If need be, we will hold Worship Services in the Fellowship Hall. Also, after much reflection, surveys, recommendations from the Transportation Task Force and Trustees, the United Ministry Council has given consent to purchase a Church bus. The projected cost of the bus is approximately $65, These two purchases (Air Conditioning and Transportation) will cost approximately $190, We have some monies on hand but we need to raise the additional funds for these worthwhile projects. Thus, we will have a capital fund campaign to raise $ The campaign is called ACT (air conditioning and transportation). Please note this campaign is above and beyond your present commitment/pledge. We are asking each person to give $ We arrived at this figure by dividing our average worship attendance by the amount of money needed to have our goals realized. We understand this individual amount will be impossible for some but we also understand some of us can do much more. The end date for the ACT campaign will be December 31, 2017, so begin now to put aside your gift. For those who wish to begin giving now, simply write ACT in the memo of your check and place it in the offering plate. If you wish to give a major gift in memory of someone or in honor of someone, please speak with Jon Everson, Mark Moses or the Pastor. -Preacher

The food is used for those who cannot provide enough food for their families. 4 WEDNESDAY NITE L.I.V.E. (Live in Victory Everyday) Join the Chestnut Street UMC family for a midweek time of fellowship and a delicious meal in Asbury Hall. Meal Cost: $6 for 7 th graders-adults $3 for K-6 th graders. Preschoolers eat free. Our meals are catered by Abigail s Tearoom of Lumberton. Meals are served at 5:30 p.m. and following the meal we enjoy a time of fun, games, and a meditation. This is a wonderful time to get to know each other as a Christian family. 7 NCCUMC Disaster Response We here in NCCUMC Disaster Response in Lumberton are excited to announce that the Gateway District Home Adoption for George & Virginia Edwards (41 National Dr. Lumberton, NC) will hold a House Blessing on August 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Officiated by Bishop Hope Ward and Rev. Herbert Lowry. Let us welcome them as they attend service here at Chestnut St. UMC for worship that morning. NCCUMC Disaster Response is currently holding covenants with 23 clients in rebuilding their home. Volunteers have been coming in giving their time and labor in helping to restore these homes for the survivors to return back to their homes from the wake of Hurricane Matthew. Since Jeff & I got here, this is the first time that we have had a volunteer team(s) host a supper for the "survivors" we are helping here in Robeson County. IT WAS WONDERFUL. Visions Outreach was the host team and they got Tabernacle UMC to join in with them. Tabernacle's youth group put on a spiritual program which was wonderful and Visions did a blessing over Jeff, Cathy & myself, then they presented their youth leader along with Pastor Herbert Lowery here at CSUMC and the Pastor of Tabernacle with a prayer shawl and did a prayer over them. I can't tell you how AWESOME this was. There were about 7 survivors who came, the NOMADS were here also, about 40 of us. The survivors mingled, introduced themselves and gave thanks to the organization, was so heartfelt!!!! AMAZING TIME BY ALL! -Ann Wade, Site Manager
