The prayer plan will be passed out on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in preparation of the beginning of our 40 days of prayer. If you have a Facebook account, an Instagram account, LinkedIn account, or any other social media account, Breeze is just as easy to maneuver. You will be able to upload a picture on your page (and your immediate family members). 10 Leaders and Emerging Leaders Needed All Hands On Deck We need leaders and emerging leaders to assist Dr. Bachus and the Futures Ministry reach the goals set before us in 2019 as we prepare for a centennial of ministry in As a reminder, the goals are: Promoting the Vision Continuing to Pray Showcasing our Ministries Hearing from the Membership Completing various Feasibility Studies Kicking off Our Centennial Plan If you feel God moving on your heart to serve Salem in this extensive effort, we invite you to sign up at the Futures Ministry table after the 8:30 am and 11:30 am worship services. Before the 1 st Sunday in February, we will be contacting you to attend a ONE HOUR meeting to hear the plan details, timeline, leader expectations, complete a spiritual gifts inventory and set a date for our initial leadership training to accomplish our 2019 goals. 12 This Day in Black History: Feb. 10, 1964 Civil Rights Act of 1964 After 12 days of debate and voting on 125 amendments, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by a vote of The bill prohibited any state or local government or public facility from denying access to anyone because of race or ethnic origin. It further gave the U.S. Attorney General the power to bring school desegregation law suits. The bill allowed the federal government the power to bring school desegregation law suits and to cut off federal funds to companies or states who discriminated. It forbade labor organizations or interstate commercial companies from discriminating against workers due to race or ethnic origins. Lastly, the federal government could compile records of denial of voting rights. After passage in the House, the bill went to the Senate, which after 83 days of debate passed a similar package on June 19 by a vote of 73 to 27. President Lyndon Johnson signed the legislation on July 2. Later, future Georgia governor Lester Maddox would become the first person prosecuted under the Civil Rights Act.

13 This Day in Black History: Feb. 10, 1966 Andrew Brimmer becomes the first African-American governor of the Federal Reserve Board when he is appointed by President Johnson. This Day in Black History: Feb. 10, 1927 Ron Brown elected Chairman of the Democratic Party Attorney Ronald Brown was elected national chairman of the Democratic Party and became the first African American to hold the post. Brown was later appointed Secretary of Commerce under the Clinton administration in He served in this capacity until he was killed in 1996 when he and 32 others died in a plane crash while on a diplomatic mission in Croatia.

15 Matthew (M.A.) Brantley Matthew Brantley serves as a Chaplain (Captain) in the United States Air Force. He preached his first sermon at age fifteen in Clarkston, Georgia He was licensed in 2004 and ordained at age twenty-five. M. A. completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Oral Roberts University) and Master of Divinity (McAfee School of Theology, Mercer University). In 2009, he participated in an overseas mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina and was selected to deliver the evening message at the Youth Worship Service with 5,000 attendees. The healing power of Christ, as recorded in Scripture, manifested during that worship experience. M. A. has served the church in various roles, to include Minister to Children and Youth at Providence Baptist Church in College Park, Georgia. He is a charter member of the Academy of Preachers and Youth Theological Initiative (Emory University). In 2018, M. A. became a member of the 100 Black Men of Omaha. He is a bright, earnest, and dedicated scholar of God who takes a methodical approach to any task set before him. He exemplifies his spiritual beliefs in both how he carries himself and through his interactions with others. M. A. is truly a model of consistency for those who know him and a shining example for all generations. A learned and knowledgeable theologian, he remains humble and demonstrates a strong appetite for continued growth, learning, and spiritual development. From the pulpit, he speaks to subjects that will help and not hinder those who listen. M. A. Brantley is married to the poised Jennifer Nichole.
