God s children have gathered in this place: People: We are transformed into God s family by God s Spirit joining with ours. Minister: Come, Spirit of peace, and calm our trembling hearts! People: Come, Breath of God, and overturn our conventional lives! All: Come, Holy Spirit, and fill us with wisdom, power, and the love of God! CELEBRATION OF BAPTISM Congregation: We affirm and celebrate the baptismal vows. We rejoice with him as he enters into covenant with Christ and his body, the Church. We support him as he seeks to give and to receive, to teach and to learn, to forgive and be forgiven, to lead and be led. As followers of Jesus in this faith community, we also renew our baptismal vows, recommitting ourselves to the ministry of Christ and his Church, eager to be a resurrection people of faith, hope, and love. Prayers of Confession in Silence Corporate Confession: Almighty God, you poured your Spirit upon gathered disciples creating bold tongues, open ears, and a new community of faith. We confess that we hold back the force of your Spirit among us. We do not always listen for your word of grace, speak the good news of your love, or live as a people made one in Christ. Have mercy on us, O God. Transform our timid lives by the power of your Spirit, and fill us with a flaming desire to be your faithful people, doing your will for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. You and I know that first hand. We ve seen it, felt it, heard it, almost tasted it right here. That Spirit is most present in the unpredictable, in the place of risk and in those areas over which we have no control. The hymn Amazing Grace holds great meaning for the Cherokee people and is often referred to as the Cherokee national Anthem. Here the melody has been set to lyrics in the Cherokee language by arranger James Green. During the dreadful Trail of Tears march ( ), the Cherokee sang Amazing Grace and other hymns in their native language to locate their kin and bring comfort to the grieving. Cherokee people still sing these songs to remember the trail of Tears. Mr. Green is a local composer who takes great pride in his partial Cherokee ancestry. He explains that there is no universal Cherokee language; what survive today are Cherokee dialects specific to each area where it is spoken. Sung Benediction: Ukuthula...
