1 Blessings News from The Catholic Foundation Summer 2016 catholic-foundation.org RECAP The Catholic Foundation Celebrates Dei Gratia 2016 The Catholic Foundation hosted its annual Dei Gratia celebration at St. Charles Preparatory School on June 28. Sister Patricia Twohill, OP, Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace led the attendees in saying Pope Francis s Year of Mercy prayer and dinner blessing, followed by remarks from Loren Brown, President & CEO of The Catholic Foundation. The Holy Father has called us to this time for mercy, Brown said. He prayed, May [the Mother of God] obtain for us the grace to experience this Jubilee of Mercy as faithful and fruitful witnesses of Christ. Brown went on to detail how The Catholic Foundation has been an expression of the faithful and fruitful witnesses of Christ for the needs of the Diocese of Columbus. In just the last year, the Foundation distributed about $10 million in grants, but Brown explained that God s real mercy is upon the souls touched by the fruits through The Catholic Foundation. For example, 25 parishes will receive funding through The Catholic Foundation to hire youth ministers. In just the next 5 years, over 15,000 young souls from these parishes may build a relationship with Jesus Christ and carry that relationship with them for the rest of their lives. 2 Loren Brown President & CEO A Message From Our CEO Dear Friends, Fiscal year 2016 recently ended and I m pleased to announce that, for the fourth consecutive year, The Catholic Foundation is celebrating another record-breaking year. In this Year of Mercy, the Foundation distributed over 1,400 grants amounting in $10 million to support our four pillars: Parish Life, Vocations, Catholic Education and Social Services. This is truly a testament to the faithful in our diocese strengthening their commitment to keeping their gifts in the faith. This was a record-breaking year because of you, and we are all so thankful for that! While we are excited to see these numbers, the true value of these funds is demonstrated through the lives we are able to touch and the resulting impact here in the Diocese. At our Dei Gratia event in June, I discussed the number of souls we can reach through your gifts. You ll read some of those details in this issue, and we ll provide a more in-depth look in our upcoming Annual Report. As I reflect on an outstanding year of many blessings, I would like to extend my gratitude to you for your continued support of our Catholic faith through The Catholic Foundation. We hope it is evident that your gifts are helping to ignite transformational change. We begin our new fiscal year in full force, and we anticipate making even greater strides in furthering our Catholic mission. I encourage you to consider how best to support your parish or Catholic ministry, and the role that the Foundation can play in your giving plan. With your help and with Christ as our guide, The Catholic Foundation will continue to be a resource for the future of our faith and our diocese. Brown also discussed adult faith formation, stating that in this year alone, grants that help support adult faith formation programs will touch the souls of 72,000 individual adults in the diocese. Funding from The Catholic Foundation to help support just 3 diocesan seminarians, the supposed average in an ordination class, will bring God s mercy to more than 250,000 parishioner souls affected by those future priests over the next 25 years. In keeping with the Year of Mercy, Brown also discussed support for Corporal Works of Mercy. Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2016 Dei Gratia Award. This year, the award honored the late Monsignor Anthony Borrelli for his diligent planning for the longterm care of his brother priests and other religious, as well as the general needs of the Diocese of Columbus. Monsignor Borrelli s sister, Philomena Mastrovincenzo, and nieces, Ann Gigliotti and Rita Reinoso, were at the event to receive the award. Bishop Campbell and Father Dan Millisor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help each gave remarks about Monsignor Borrelli, both recalling fondly how he liked to stir the pot. 4 PL AT I N UM george j. igel & co., inc GOL D huntington national bank kelley family foundation the kirk williams co. mount carmel foundation nationwide ruscilli construction co., inc. white castle S I LV E R bob-boyd auto budros, ruhlin and roe d7 foundation diocese of columbus dominican sisters of peace fund evaluation group glockner family foundation j. david & lisa karam our lady of victory plaskolite pnc bank pontifical college josephinum
