Please speak with Father if you are interested. Epiphany Party Thank you to all who joined us for our Epiphany party last Sunday. Enjoying good food with good friends is always a great way to start a new year! Bible Study at St. Paul s Our Wednesday morning Bible Study meets in the Parish hall around 9:15am. We will be finishing 2 Chronicles and starting Ezra. Please join us anytime for some coffee and Bible reading. Our choir members are doing a fantastic job and continue to grow in many ways but we still need you! Please join us during Mass! Adult Choir (4:30pm Saturday) Rehearsals are at 3:00pm before each Saturday Mass. We help lead the Congregation with hymns and responses and do an occasional meditation. Even if you can't come every week, come when you can. We rehearse far enough in advance that you will feel prepared. Questions? Share the opportunity; let your friends and family know about membership of our 1000 club Club meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Sunday of every month Club meetings are optional to attend. Our club is an ongoing fundraiser for our parish to raise funds with a chance for our members to win monetary prizes. We award $ per month to members. There are numbers up to 1000 and anyone may buy a particular number (if someone doesn t already have it) for a month or more and see if their number is the lucky one to be pulled out of the drawing. Only numbers that are purchased for that month will be in the drawing. Membership is only $5.00 a month per number or you can pay for the year. Youth Trip ~ March for Life YOUTH TRIP TO MARCH FOR LIFE IN D.C. To evangelize and advocate for life issues, the Office of Faith Events and the Youth Council is sponsoring a bus trip to The Annual March for Life on Friday, January 27, 2017, in Washington, D.C. The youth will leave on the evening of Thursday, January 26 th from two locations- Willimantic or St. Bernard s High School. The participants will travel to the Archdiocese of Washington s Youth Rally and Mass for Life at the Washington DC Armory. Youth will take the metro to the National Mall where they will March for Life ending up on steps of the Supreme Court. There they will hear testimonies and speeches about respecting life before traveling home. The cost for the trip is $85 per person and includes breakfast, t-shirts, metro ticket, and bus fare. A special novena called 9 Days for Life will take place from January 21st through the 29th. Pray for the respect and protection of all human life with new intentions, brief reflections, and more each day. Download the novena online, or participate through Facebook, , text message or an app. Join at March for Life The Annual March for Life will take place this year on Friday, January 27, 2017, in Washington, D.C., as a way for people to express their opposition to abortion. This year s event coincides with the 44 th anniversary of the Supreme Court s decision to legalize abortion. Buses sponsored by the Southeast Chapter of Connecticut Right to Life will travel to the March leaving from the Norwich Municipal Parking Lot (Exit 11, I-395) on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at 9 P.M. Bus fare is $67 per person. We are advocating for the freedom to be Catholic, to go about our lives serving the needs of our brothers and sisters, regardless of their race, creed, or religion, not because they are Catholic but because we are Catholic. Don t let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and generously share them with others. Q A Why do we have a liturgical season called ordinary time? Can you explain? Ordinary time is the longest season of the liturgical year. It begins the Monday after January 6, the Epiphany, and goes until the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. That period can last anywhere from five to eight weeks, depending on when Easter is celebrated. Ordinary time picks up again the Monday after Pentecost Sunday and lasts from twentythree to twenty-seven weeks, until the end of the liturgical year, the Saturday before Advent begins. Why the name ordinary? "Ordinary" is not in contrast to "extraordinary" or "special" but rather stresses the Latin language notion of "ordinal" or numbered Sundays. The Latin title for the season, "tempus ordinarium," conveys the sense that this time of the year is measured or numbered time. Measured time can allude simply to the numbered Sundays, or the notion that these Sundays are a "measured" time to deepen and immerse ourselves completely in the realities of Jesus' incarnation, ministry, passion, death, and resurrection. Ordinary time offers us the measured opportunity to connect the ordinary lived experiences of our lives with those of Jesus, who modeled for us how to live a truly human existence. 5 Unity. What does "unity" mean? For those of us who claim Christ as our model of living and savior of humanity, it means we are one. This year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has as its theme the Scripture citation 2 Corinthians 5: The first line contains our mission statement... "For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore all have died." If that is not a mandate for unity, then there is none. We are one in the death of Christ and therefore live in unity with all other Christians.
