2 Jesus answered, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6) Praise God and thanksgiving to Him! Our Children Ministry organised the annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) on May (Wed/Thu) this year. Our theme ONE WAY focused on Jesus Christ as the one and only way to eternity in heaven with God. We had 102 enthusiastic and teachable children who turned up for the one-and-a-half-day ministry-event, aged 5 to 11 years old, from Clementi Woods Kindergarten, KidSparks, Sunday School and others. Thank God for the team of 53 equally enthusiastic and diligent co-workers (comprised of youths and adults), serving together with their passion, time, spiritual gifts and multiple talents. The team served in various sub-groups such as Worship/ AV, Bible-teaching, Learning Center, Counseling, Kitchen, Games and Logistics, Photo/Videography and Administration. Three Bible stories and lessons were taught and shared, along with take-home messages: Cain and Abel Come to God (Come to God with a right heart attitude, and seek His forgiveness), The Prodigal Son Returns (Respond to God s love, and believe on the Lord Jesus as Saviour), and Samuel Obeys God s Call (Listen to God and obey Him). New items on this year s programme included the use of puppetry to teach the The Prodigal Son lesson by the Bible teachers of the Primary group, the Children Got Talents segment by Primary group which allowed the children to present the highlights of what they had learnt, the skit-presentations at the Learning Center, and a Parenting talk on Transforming the Heart, Shaping Behaviour by CEF national director, Alan Wong. We are thankful to church members and worshippers for their support of the VBS in prayer, finance, manpower, publicity and participation through the registration of their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Thank God for the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to harvest young souls for God s kingdom. It is our constant prayer that the children (including the unchurched) will be able to join our weekly ministries like KidSparks and Sunday School to regularly hear God s Word and experience church life. Do continue to uphold all the VBS participants in prayer! Here are the testimonies of some of our co-workers and a P5 child, for reading and reflection: This year s VBS - ONE WAY (JESUS) was a resounding success. We saw kids singing their hearts out, talents displayed by kids, the youths and not forgetting the award-winning drama team at the Learning Centre. My best VBS ever!!! (by: Karena Teng, P2 Bible teacher) This year was a little more challenging than in previous years as there was a larger group of P4/5 children. The children came with an enthusiastic and a willing-to-learn spirit and it was a joy to see them listening attentively and asking relevant questions during the Bible teaching time. It was also amazing to see God at work among the children in the way they interacted, supported and helped each other. The children thoroughly enjoyed the varied and meaningful program which was a testimony of God s faithfulness. (by: Fennella Henry, P4/P5 Bible teacher) 2
3 Thank our Father God for the opportunity to serve in VBS again, this was my second year helping out in the Learning Center. It is always a privilege to be called by God for His work. On top of that, we had so much fun from the planning of activities and putting up decorations, to the teaching and doing crafts on actual days. I will never forget the fun and laughter we had together. Thank you to all the co-workers of Christ! (by: Abby Teh, Learning Center assistant) The Kitchen team thanks God for the good teamwork, food hygiene, safety maintained for the 5 meals served. To add to VBS experiential and fun way of learning God s truth, we aimed to serve meals and snacks that delight the children. We found the task of providing meals for more than 150 kids and co-workers exciting; the sight of children enjoying their meals, politely queueing up for 2nd and 3rd helpings for some was so fulfilling. (by: Dorothy Low, Kitchen IC) It has been a privilege to be part of the youth and the slightly less youthful VBS team who were united with the desire of pointing the children towards Christ. Truly, there is no greater joy than seeing the children, singing and declaring, "One way, Jesus, You're the only one that I could live for". To God be all glory! (by: Stacey Teng, Preschool Worship Leader/ Youth team) This is my 6th year serving in the VBS. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in the P1 class with Bible teachers and the entire team. Thank God that the children are keen to know more about Jesus. I pray that they will continue to walk with God closely, and receive Jesus as their personal Saviour and Lord. (by: Elias Tan, Youth assistant) God has shown me that there is indeed only one way to Him and Heaven - by believing in Jesus Christ alone. To believe is to know Jesus so we have to make time for God despite being busy. I am thankful for all adults and youths who worked hard to make VBS a fun and fruitful time of learning and bonding together. I encourage other children to attend VBS next year." (by: Eliora Soh, P5 child) The song One Way goes this way (for your singing and reflection): I lay my life down at Your feet cause You're the only one I need I turn to You and You are always there In troubled times it's You I seek I put You first that's all I need I humble all I am, all to You (CHORUS): One Way, Jesus, You're the only one that I could live for. (2x) You are always, always there. Everyhow and everywhere, Your grace abounds so deeply within me. You will never ever change, Yesterday, today, the same Forever till forever meets no end (BRIDGE): You are the way, the truth and the life. We live by faith and not by sight for you. We're living all for You! May all of us be encouraged to be faithful in living for our Triune God each day - testifying, witnessing, serving, living out our faith in whatever circumstances He has placed us in. Amen. Margaret Ong 3
