Dr. Paul J. Kirbas Dear Congregation, I want to thank this congregation for your part in discerning our response to merging our ministry with the Connecting Point Presbyterian Church. Many of you have been attending our weekly Pastor s Class as we have been exploring the possibility, and many of you have visited the Connecting Point campus to see it with your own eyes. I believe that God is leading us to a consensus, and I am full of appreciation for your willingness to give this deep consideration. Last week in the Pastor s Class, we discussed one of the most sensitive issues we must consider in our merger discussions. It is our wedding policy, and whether Westminster and Connecting Point can align our stances on same sex weddings. At the end of the class, I asked the participants to fill out a survey on the possible stances we could take. We have received over 90 responses so far, and the results are very revealing and quite surprising. We want to make sure that everyone has a chance to fill out the survey, but it is very important to watch the class before the survey is completed. 3 The video of that Pastor s Class can be found at If you haven t already done so, please take the time to watch the class. Once you have, complete the survey and place it in one of the collection boxes located in the church building. Please know that the purpose of this survey is to get a general idea of where our congregation is on this issue, but in our Presbyterian Polity, it is the Session that will decide our policy. This survey is not a ballot, and the congregation is not voting through it. It is simply a tool for discernment for the session to use in our prayerful deliberations. Again, thank you for your involvement in our discernment process. God is at work here, and there are many signs all around that a Westminster renewal is underway. It is a wonderful blessing to journey with you in this exciting time. 6 Connecting Point At Worship Prelude *Welcome and Gathering Hymn: #353 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less Solid Rock Greeting & Announcements Call to Worship (Responsive) Leader: Come, worship God, for those who wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. People: Come, let us praise our God of everlasting hope; who meets us where we are, lifting us up and providing faithfully in our time of need. All: Let us worship God whose faithfulness and goodness remain steadfast. Prayer of the Day *Hymn: #741 Guide My Feet Guide My Feet Call to Confession Prayer of Confession (unison) God of Amazing Grace, we confess that we become easily distracted; we turn our eyes toward the challenges of this life, and take our sight off you. We so easily lose our focus and sink in our doubt, our disbelief, our need to take control of things ourselves. We prefer the familiar, routine, safe routes rather than your pathway toward needed change, because the work you call us to do is hard. Instead, we fill our lives with work, school, and the busyness of life and become more and more unresponsive to your call to love our neighbors as ourselves. Fill us with confidence in your presence, that we might not lose focus. Instead let us risk sharing Jesus compassionate vision so the world may become the place of love and justice you desire for all. Teach us how we may best serve ourselves and one another on this daring adventure. Amen. Declaration of Forgiveness (Responsive) Leader: Alleluia! Glory be to the Holy One who can make all things new! People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Alleluia! *Passing the Peace of Christ Prayer for Illumination Reading from the Old Testament Psalm 85:8-13 Reading from the New Testament Matthew 14:22-33 Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.
