It s a disorienting time. For one thing, it will take me several weeks to routinely get the date right while writing checks. But this season is also disorienting because my thoughts are pulled in two opposite directions at once: half of me is bent toward the past, and half of me turned to meet the future head-on. The New Year is here, and I can think of no better way to prepare ourselves to live into it than by taking a moment to remember and celebrate what I consider to be our church highlights from Sunday worship at Bojangles - What fun it was to crack open Bibles and biscuits with you that snowy Sunday last January! Thank you so much for partnering with me in this crazy, spur-of-the-moment idea. I was truly dismayed to cancel our regular Sunday services because of thick ice covering our own parking lot and walkways. But the shock and gratitude of the restaurant employees when I handed them your love offering was perhaps my favorite church moment of the year. Walking with Jesus Bible study- Months after this study concluded, I can still see its lessons reflected in several of your lives. What a privilege it has been to see you opening your hearts and your church to new people in new ways this year as we walk together in the footsteps of Jesus. United at the Cross- Prior to my time in Farmville, I d never experienced anything quite like this. Hundreds of Farmvillians (Is this even the right word? To my ear this moniker sounds way too much like farm-villains, as if this is a town entirely populated by horse thieves.) from all denominations and every walk of life crowding the Town Commons in joint worship of our Lord. This was a beautiful glimpse of the glory of heaven. Youth Mission Trip- This summer, 14 of our youth and 6 adult chaperones devoted a full week to serving the beautiful people of Haysville, NC. Love was shared, fun was had, souls were strengthened, friendships were grown, and surely Christ was glorified. Through your prayers and giving, each of you made this happen. Party at May Lew Farm- My recipe for an ideal party: perfect weather, beautiful venue, incredible food, and a talented band. Can we do this again? Please? Thanksgiving Meals and Angel Tree- Whenever anyone asks me about this church I describe you with the same word each time: Generous. Your continued support of food-insecure families in Farmville schools, foster children through Methodist Home for Children, special needs adults in Pitt County group homes, and your eagerness to do more make me so proud. Best of all, the connections we have made in 2017 have potentially opened new doors for us to enter into real friendship with those to whom we have given. Stay tuned in 2018 for exciting details! Live Nativity and Christmas Eve Service- So many of you worked so very hard to make these events happen and I am utterly grateful. That hundreds of folks from our own community came to reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas with us at these events made all our hard work worthwhile. Con t page 2

2 2 Baby noise- Berl, Asher, and Adelaide, I know you can t read this yet, but each of you swells our hearts with love and joy! This has been a truly remarkable year. I cut several beautiful memories from this list and still I needed two pages. I sure can t wait to experience with you what God has in store for us in this year ahead. May God s blessing fall on each of you in 2018! The first Sunday last month we went and toured the Wilson Winter Lights at the Botanic Garden. Then had supper at El Tapatio. On the 17th, we went caroling to several members of our church, and friends around town. A big thank you to Jimmy Lewis for the use of the trailer, and Aubrey Digh for accompanying us on the guitar during our venture. When we finished caroling, many of our youth stayed that evening and helped with the Live Nativity. They all enjoyed it, and got a lot out of the experience. The first weekend in January, I will be attending a Youth Workers Retreat at the Refuge. On 1/7 at 5, there will be a MYF parents meeting. MYF will follow that night at 6. We will not meet the following week; I will be out of town. As always, I want to think everyone for their continued support. Hunter Thank you to everyone who has provided refreshments this Fall for our fellowship time following the Early Service. A calendar for 2018 is beside the coffee pot in the Fellowship Hall for those who may wish to sign up for the New Year. The first Sunday in January is taken, but lots of other open dates remain, so take your pick. What a beautiful Christmas!! Thank you to UMMen for assembling the nativity, to all the participants of the Live Nativity, UMW for refreshments and inside helpers (especially Joy Fields) for making the Live Nativity successful one of the best! Thank you to all that help decorate the church for Christmas, Pastor Steve for inspiring messages during Advent and Christmas Eve, the children for their song, and to the Christmas Choir for the beautiful cantata.
