1 TRINITY TOGETHER Trinity Lutheran Church 357 West Main Street Kutztown, Pennsylvania March 2016 Pastor: The Rev. Keith Rohrbach Director of Youth & Family Ministry: Seth Noggle Editor/Administrative Assistant: Lisa Finke Church Office Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM 2:00 PM Website: Our Mission Statement Telling others of God s unconditional love through worship; Empowering discipleship through education; Leading others to this family of Faith as baptized believers; Calling all to follow Jesus example of servanthood. Greetings Everyone, As we continue to go through Lent this season I am reminded of the beauty and fragility of the Church. We are a body of people that see a lot of changes. With any belief system it can sometimes seem like the world is leaving us behind, or we re in a struggle with the culture. There are different ways to deal with this, and often times we tend to choose options that aren t very biblical. Maybe we react in fear, anger, or just try and ignore it. Our fight or flight kicks in and neither of those usually feels like the right option. Yet, Jesus came to show us a third way. That third way is the way of truth, the way of the heart. Now this way might look like weakness to many, and yet it constantly holds steadfast. That s one thing I love about Lent. This is a season all about our weakness and fragility. What does the ash remind us of when it is shaped into a cross on our foreheads? Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Remember that you are not invincible, remember that you were created from the very dust that makes up the universe, remember that you are connected by life and death to the very God who created you, and died for you. This Lenten season I watched as two tiny little children received the ash, and I was humbled. A child being reminded that they will someday (hopefully in the far future) one day die. The mother s hands remained on their tiny shoulders the whole time. Immanuel; God is with us. I feel the hands on my shoulders, and I do not quake with fear. I look out into this world knowing that death is not the end, and neither is this election year. Death, where is your sting? So may we step into the world remembering that offering grace is always harder than offering condemnation, and that we are a people made strong not by tearing others down, but by building them up. Our job isn t to change the world, but to love it. Peace, Seth Noggle 1

If you are interested in having your child participate in this class please contact Pastor Keith or the church office. The Trinity Star During the Epiphany Festival the Good News Club held, there were questions about Trinity's star that adorns our steeple tower from Advent to the start of Epiphany. We have been gathering information on the construction of the original star, which we feel was constructed around 1979 and assembled on the tower in The project, initiated by Rev. Wm. Bispels, had several members who helped with the project, including James Meyer and Glenn Godshall. If you helped with the original star or know any information about it, will you please contact Debbie Ziegler (610) Over the huge snow storm we took a group of youth to the Raudenbush farm for pizza and sledding. It was a great time. We also are getting excited for our mission trips this summer, and are also trying to form a team to go to a bowl-a-thon in March that will be raising funds for the West Berks Mission District. In Good News Club we have started the story of John the Baptist. We have begun to end each session with a blessing as well. We sing God be with you till we meet again. The children all really seem to be enjoying Sunday School this year. Good News Club Schedule: February 28 th -We will start the story about Jesus meeting the Woman at the Well. March 6 th - We will continue with the story of the Woman at the Well March 13 th - We will be finishing up the story of the Woman at the Well March 20 th -We will be having a Holy week celebration as we have a Seder Meal upstairs for our children and parents. ALL ARE WELCOME to come enjoy and learn about the last meal Jesus had with his friends. March 27 th - We will be celebrating Easter on this most Holy day. The children will have an Easter egg hunt along with some fun crafts and stories. Daylight Savings Time Begins Don t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour on March 13 th! 3

4 WINTER WEATHER INFORMATION When winter weather turns bad, information concerning cancellations and time changes of activities at Trinity can be found by tuning into: Channel 69 news WFMZ website Calling Trinity s Office ( ) for messages regarding changes in schedule. The weekly sermons are once again available on the church s website ( On the home page in the left column at the bottom you will see a link to the page that has the recordings available. If you have any questions, please contact the church office. There are a few Sundays in 2016 that do not have altar flower sponsors. The following dates are still available The Adult Sunday School Class welcomes you to join us in enjoying The Gift of Faith, a program about how we receive faith as a gift of the Holy Spirit and how, together with our gratitude for God s mercy and love, our faith flows in love and service to others. This study draws on New Testament writings from Mark leading to faith in the risen Jesus; in Luke regarding Jesus concern for outcasts and sinners, and from Luke about how salvation is from God alone through grace and how our acceptance of grace through gratitude, faith and humility leads to service. Rev. Margaret A. Krych, professor emerita of Christian Education and Theology at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, guides us through these studies of living faith and gratitude. Our Class proceeds with shared readings and free discussion of the Word in the world today. Please join us Sunday mornings beginning March 6, 2016, at 9:00 am, in the Library, for conversation, coffee and fellowship. June 26 July 24 If you are interested in sponsoring the flowers for any of those dates please contact Darlene Dietrich at or the church office. NURSERY AVAILABLE The nursery is open during both worship services; however, there is no attendant so you will have to stay with your child. There is an intercom system in the nursery that can be turned on to hear the service. If unsure where the nursery is located please see an usher. Sunday, March 13, 2016, is our congregation s Consecration Sunday. There are two events scheduled that day Sunday morning worship and Celebration Luncheon and we hope you will attend both. This spiritual-growth-oriented process is designed to enrich our biblical understanding of Christian stewardship. Rather than focusing on the need of the church to receive, the experience concentrates on the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development. On Consecration Sunday you will be able to make your financial commitment as an act of worship in the church sanctuary. We look forward to seeing you that day. The Stewardship Committee 4
