Now What - Part Two John 3:30 "He (Jesus) must increase, but I (John the Baptist) must decrease. I ended my musings last month with this passage. I still believe that those of us who serve the church and are ambassadors of Christ need to get out of the way. Our goal as pastors and other church professionals should be that of illuminating the Good News of Jesus Christ. For the last thirty-three years I hope that I was more about illuminating Jesus and his good news than any self increase. I recently attended a conference where 1,800 pastors were in attendance. It was amazing and a bit scary at the same time. We were all there to be nourished by well known preachers from around the country. These are the "Rock Stars" of the preaching world. There is a real danger of ego getting in the way when such "Rock Star" status is achieved. It can be more about increasing than decreasing. I am happy to report that for the most part, these nationally known preachers were all about increasing the message of Jesus Christ and his message of grace, forgiveness, inclusion, tolerance and love. I once again came away renewed in spirit and hopeful for the gospel message lived out in congregations large and small. These past days I have been sorting through thirty-three years of accumulated books, ministry plans, program documents and sermons. I came across several boxes filled with sermons during my cleaning out frenzy. Some of these sermons were from the beginning of my journey and some were more recent. As I paged through these words I shared week after week after week, I had a very sobering thought, " I pray, they were more about my Lord Jesus increasing and me decreasing." I suspect over these next months and years, I may even read a few of them. I hope I am happily surprised by what I read. Your Faithful Servant, Pastor Keith Rohrbach 1

The following dates are still available July 9 September 3 September 17 September 24 October 8 October 29 November 12 December 31 Also we are in need of flower chairpersons for the months of July, August, September, and October. Being a chairperson involves calling the flower sponsors for each Sunday that month to remind them to order flowers, to find out what should be written in the bulletin, and to take flowers to shut-ins/members who are in the hospital after the church service if necessary. If you are interested in sponsoring flowers for either of these dates or being a flower chairperson please contact Darlene Dietrich at or the church office. BULLETIN SPONSORS The 2017 Bulletin Sponsor Chart is on the bulletin board outside the church office. If you are interested in sponsoring bulletins please sign up for the week or weeks you are interested in. Cost for the bulletins is $20 per week. 2

3 Hope s Table Pastor Keith & Deb will be organizing a meal at Hope Lutheran Church in Reading on June 27 th, and they would like your help to serve food at this meal. The time involved would be approximately 4:30 PM to 7 PM that night. If you would like to help out please speak to Pastor Keith, Deb, or the church office. On June 11 th we will honor all of our college graduates (other than KU), our high school graduates and our trade school graduates at the 9:00 AM service. Graduates please submit your major/field of study, awards, accomplishments and future plans to the church office by June 5 th. We hope you are able to attend that day so we can wish all of our graduates the best of luck in their future endeavors. Good News Club is quickly coming to an end for the school year. We ll be ending come May 21 st.. This year has been a great year with our children, and the teachers have been wonderful. This month we celebrated the baptism of Hannah DeVall and Freya Oesterle. They were both baptized in front of the Good News Club children, and it was a really special event. Our final day included a Bible Trivia scavenger hunt. The children had a great time playing games that centered around certain Bible Stories that they learned. The college ministry finished up this Wednesday with a bonfire at the Rohrbach s home. The week before we had a large picnic at the LC for all of the Food Bank students and had a great time. Jeff Collier, Bill Hoyer, and Lisa Finke came to help, and we had music playing and yard games. 3 Green Thumb Volunteers A sign-up sheet has been posted on the office door for anyone who can help to weed and water our flower beds during the summer growing season. There is no grass mowing or raking involved. If you would like to volunteer for a week or more, please feel free to sign up for the week or weeks that work best for you. With your help we can keep our church grounds looking clean and green. The Summer Senior Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, June 7 th at 11:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. A sign-up sheet for this event is on the church office door. Join in on the fun!

4 Dates: August 7 th 11 th 6-8:30 PM at St. Paul s UCC We are excited to announce that we'll be partnering with St. Paul's UCC, and they will be hosting it this year at their Church. Seth will still be there helping with VBS along with other Trinity volunteers. This is a way to hopefully reach out to more families and hopefully have an even more fun and active VBS. We are looking forward to this partnership, and hope your children are still able to come out. The theme for this year will be Maker Fun Factory: Created by God, Made for a Purpose. Please let Seth know if you have any questions, or would like to help volunteer! Mark your calendars! VBS Fundraiser We will be participating in some hoagie fundraisers with St. Paul s UCC to help offset the costs of VBS. More information will be sent out in the weekly newsletters about these fundraisers. A great way to help out and have lunch or dinner already planned for you! Spring Attic Outlet Sale Update Thank you to everyone who brought clothing and small household items. Also, a big thank you to all who helped to set up and sell the items. We made $ for the Helping Hand Fund. Vouchers from Friend, Inc., clientele for free clothing amounted to 115. The next Attic Outlet Sale will be in October. We can use children s clothing as well as ladies and men s. It can be put in the room next to the kitchen. Thank you, Darlene Dietrich 4

5 The Adult Sunday School Class welcomes you to join us in enjoying three summer sessions on Sunday mornings. We will begin with learning about what it means to be a Lutheran with Baptized We Live, a short picture booklet that Pastor Rohrbach uses to help new members appreciate our beliefs. Next we will celebrate the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation with a DVD narrated by Rick Steves entitled, Luther and the Reformation. Third, we will apply these lessons with a booklet called God s Urgent Call, a study about how God causes ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Please join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 am beginning June 4, 2017, in the airconditioned Parlor for conversation, coffee and fellowship. Worship Service at the Kutztown Folk Festival If you were planning on attending worship services at the Folk Festival coupons for admission for congregation members will be in the July/August Newsletter and at the back of the sanctuary. The Lutheran worship service will be held on Sunday, July 2 nd at 10:30 AM on the Main Stage. Worshippers can enter through the main gate at 9:00 AM with the coupon. Choir and musicians can enter through the vendor s gate beginning at 7:00 AM. If you have any questions please contact the church office. Dear Mrs. Robertson, What a surprise to receive my goodie-box from you and your committee from Trinity Church. Great treats just in time for my finals. It was nice having something to munch on while studying for my biology and chemistry tests. Thank you for thinking of me! Malala Yousafzai The Mission Team Needs Your Help! Can you help on Saturday, June 17 from 9 AM to 4 PM to paint the Store and do final repairs to the sorting room at the Allentown Rescue Mission? We need 15 volunteers to help complete the project. Most will paint the Store with Primer followed by a color coat. Additional people will be needed as follows: Two people to repair glass in an interior door, Two people to do minor drywall in sorting room entry way, Two people to fix floor in sorting room, and Two people to hang curtain rods and curtains in Store.
