People: We will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. *Hymn #150 Come, Christians, Join to Sing" *Unison Prayer of Confession Adam Etheredge O Lord, Giver of Bread, how often you would strengthen us with your presence! Daily you offer the refreshment of your love. Daily you would empower us to live as faithful servants. We confess that we have not sought your company. We have doubted that you can satisfy the hungers that plague us. And we are frightened to think what changes your presence might work in our lives. Forgive us, Lord, our failure to trust you. Give us courage to accept your provisions. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Moment of silence for personal reflection.) *Assurance of God's Forgiveness 2
3 *Response "Take, O Take Me as I Am" Take, O take me as I am; summon out what I shall be; set your seal upon my heart and live in me. Children s Message Anthem "This Touch of Love" Chancel Choir by Carl Schalk & J.J. Vajda Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NRSV) 23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. 25 In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. Leader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Sermon Means of Grace: The Lord's Supper" *Hymn #520 vs.1-3 Hear, O Our Lord, We See You Face to Face" (Tune: "Morecambe" #326) *Affirmation of Faith (The Heidelberg Catechism, Question #75) Cameron Fast Leader: How are you reminded and assured in the Holy Supper that you participate in the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross and in all his benefits? People: In this way: Christ has commanded me and all believers to eat of this broken bread, and to drink of this cup in remembrance of him. He has thereby promised that his body was offered and broken on the cross for me, and his blood was shed for me, and that the cup is shared with me. Also, he has promised that he himself as certainly feeds and nourishes my soul to everlasting life with his crucified body and shed blood as I receive and actually taste the bread and the cup of the Lord which are given to me as sure signs of the body and blood of Christ. Giving of Our Offerings Please use this time to pass the Friendship Binder found at the inside end of your pew. Offertory "Deep River" Adult Handbells spiritual arr. by Douglas Wagner 3

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Communion of the People As you pass the bread please say, The body of Christ given for you. As you pass the cup please say, The blood of Christ shed for you. (Please retain the bread to partake together as a sign of our oneness as a community of faith in Jesus Christ. Praying, let us work for peace; singing, share our joy with all; working for a world that's new, faithful when we hear Christ's call. Postlude "Soul, deck thyself with gladness..." Roy Carroll arr. Johannes Brahms Organist ANNOUNCEMENTS ADULT CE: after worship today in the board room at 10:45 a.m. Come"Dig Deeper" into today's Scripture and Sermon with our guest preacher, Rev. Dr.. WELCOME to today's guest preacher, the Rev. Dr., a retired Presbyterian Minister whom we all know as a friend of our congregation. Thanks Marsha and a big thanks for being our pastoral minister while Hal was on vacation! HAL MURRY hosts "Welcome to Westminster" classes after worship for three Sundays, beginning October 11. The classes are open to all and are intended to address issues of interest to newcomers to our fellowship and anyone who may be considering church membership. Class members determine the topics with their questions. A sampling of previous questions: What's the difference between Presbyterians and... How can I learn to pray? How does Westminster get its Pastor? How can I begin to understand the Bible? Interested? Please fill out the registration flyer in bulletin today. THANK YOU to all the gardeners that help make our gardens beautiful all through the summer. Those working this year were Gene & Gini Gordon, Ross & Sally Madden, Joyce & Marlyn Bausman, Jean & Doug Cheever, Susan Williams, Lynne Oyen, Denise Reyerson, Sheri Hannon, Pat Judge, Jeanne Beeghley, Pat & Dora Edwards, Diane Garrity, Myra DeLong and Glinda Manternach. Thanks to Tim Till for watering and all the other things he helped us do, to the persons that watered the plant by the door faithfully and to any other that pulled a weed or two or deadheaded a plant. Many hands make light the task. We try and arrange the schedule so each team of two only works 2 weeks/summer (usually just one day in their week). We could use some new recruits and hope some of you will consider adding your name to our committee. We have good instructors and are always eager to have new ideas. We hope to hear from some of you. Thanks again, Gini and Sally BREAKING BREAD - A group of people who meet after church once a month to go out to eat together. Next time is October 11th. Gather in the Narthex right after worship. Those who stay for Sunday School can meet after class and decide where they want to go to eat.

It would be helpful if you could read the book ahead of the October 18 th meeting so you can participate in the discussion (available on-line, from the publisher and at River Lights Book Store) but you are certainly welcome even if you haven t read the book. We will meet at 10:45, after worship, in Fellowship Hall. There will be snacks - in bowls.
