You are making a difference in the Kingdom! MISSION STATEMENT: To develop and implement programs and ministries in soul-winning, church planting and church growth that will assist the local church to reach and reap the harvest of the 21st century. It s a Bible principle! The key to receiving is giving; the key to ruling is serving; the key to exaltabon is humility; the key to abundant living is dying daily, and the key to reward is sacrifice. Jesus illustrated this with the rich young ruler. The young ruler approached Him with quesbons about eternal life and aher explaining the way, Jesus tendered the ruler with a posibon on His apostolic team. But there was a requirement. He had to liquidate his assets and distribute the profit among the poor. The young man declined the proposal. ChrisBans cannot escape the call to sacrificial living. Concerning Mary s sacrifice, the Bible says that Jesus understood it (Ma$hew 26:10), and it was a beau1ful sacrifice to Jesus. The disciples didn t understand it, but He did! I have discovered there are three characterisbcs that consbtute a beaubful sacrifice. It must cost me something. There s no such thing as sacrifice without personal cost. David s offering at Araunah s threshing floor (see 1 Chronicles 21) serves as example. David refused to offer a sacrifice to God that cost him nothing. David understood the blessing of sacrifice and insisted on paying full price for the land. When David surrendered his resources on behalf of the worship experience, the death angel sheathed his sword and departed (21:27). It must be presented willingly. Mary brought the expensive oil at her own insistence. No one ask her, begged her or demanded it of her. She did it because she wanted to. When missionary James Calvert went to the island of Fiji with the Gospel, the ship captain atempted to dissuade him. The captain told him, You will risk your life and lose all those with you if you go among such savages. Calvert s immortal response was, We died before we came here. It s no wonder they couldn t be deterred. Their resolve was that of Paul: for me to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phil 1:21). It must be offered with a pure heart. Proverbs 15:8 says: The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. A dying girl s only hope was to receive a transfusion from her litle brother. When the physician met with the family, he explained the situabon to the litle boy. Son, would you be willing to give your blood so your sister can live? With a litle hesitabon, he said that he would do it. The nurses began taking blood from the boy s arm. As he lay quietly, he finally asked his mother, When do I die? The purity of his heart displayed the extent he was willing to sacrifice. Stan Holder

Through this effort, we support the ministry of Larry Odom and his work throughout Central and South America. We are making great progress! Pastors, the promotional materials you need to share this vision with your congregation can be found at Give your people an opportunity to participate. In doing so, we will touch three regions of the world that presently are in need to God s redeeming love. Mission Trip - January 31 - February 5, 2018 The Heartland Region will be sponsoring a missions trip to El Salvador to do work on the Santa Tecla Bible School. If you are interested in joining us for this time of work and ministry, call Ernie Wright at or at heartlandcoginfo.com. We can use skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, tile and flooring. Let us hear from you!

4 Heartland Region Youth And Discipleship What is Winterfest? Long rides on a church van, great musical artists, fast food, worship, cramped hotel rooms, supernatural encounters, laughter, powerful messages, friends, and wonderful memories are all images of Winterfest; a youth movement that annually reaches thousands across the country and around the world. For over 35 years now, Winterfest has been a consistent place where the lives, direction, and paths of young people are interrupted, influenced, and forever changed by the power of the Holy Spirit! Don t miss out. Make your plans to be there now. Registration forms are available at heartlandcog.com or mywinterfest.com

He is a graduate of Liberty University and holds a MA in Theological Studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. DR. DAVID BLAIR This webinar will explore the use of pornography by youth within the faith community, the impact of its destructive messages on both attitudes and behavior and practical steps that parents and pastors can take in helping young people navigate this minefield of lies and deception. God s Design: The Reality: What is God s message about purity, sexuality and marriage? Why is God s truth best for youth? What are the blessings of following God s ways? DATE & TIME: Moving Ahead: In the face of the challenge what are parents and pastors to do? When should we be talking to our youth about the issue? How do we do this? 8 The Receptivity Rule For the most effective outreach, focus on receptive people. There is a principle found in Scripture that when applied, help every church better invest its resources for effective outreach. The principle is: Focus on receptive people. Not everyone is equally receptive to the Good News. Some welcome the story with great joy while others respond with a closed mind. Focusing on receptive people is a Scriptural process (see Luke 10:2-12; Mark 4:26-29; Matthew 10; Luke 8:1-15; Acts 16:6-10). Transition events greatly affect a person s receptivity and openness to the Christian message. The more significant the transition event, the more immediate the move toward receptivity. The Holmes-Rahe Social Readjustment Scale provides a helpful way to identify transition events in a person s life. Holmes-Rahe Stress Scale Death of Spouse 100 Divorce 73 Marital separation 65 Death of close family member 63 Jail term 63 Severe personal injury / illness 53 Marriage 50 Fired from work 47 Marital reconciliation 45 Retirement 45 Change in family member s health 44 Pregnancy 40 Addition to family 39 Business readjustment 39 Change in financial status 38 Death of close friend 37 Foreclosure on Mortgage 30 Change in work responsibilities 29 Trouble with in-laws 29 Change in living conditions 25 Trouble with boss 23 Change in residence 20 These are just a few opportunities for the church to reach beyond its walls to touch the lives of others.
