3 Greetings from Christian Theological Seminary! We are pleased to tell you that April Scott has been named as the recipient of the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church Endowed Scholarship Fund. On behalf of our trustees, faculty, students and Ms. Scott, we extend heartfelt thanks for your generosity. When a person makes the courageous decision to answer the call of God upon their lives, many considerations need to be taken not the least of which is how to pay for a seminary education. Many of our students simply would not be able to attend CTS without the gift of your scholarship. Your partnership with CTSthrough the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church Endowed Scholarship Fund is a blessing to our students and beyond them to all of the worldwide ministries that benefit from their leadership and faith. The Sillaman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Robert Sillaman by his parents. It provides financial aid to students at CTS. Below is our current prayer list, if you are in need of prayers and would like to be added or if you know of someone who needs prayers, please contacts us. We want to pray for you! Please pray for our church family and all in God's world who are in need of God's healing, comfort, hope, and well-being: Thad & Jennifer Allen (Bill Allen s son and daughter-in-law) Betty Archip Jesse Belcher (Anne Totin) Helen Butler Karen Campbell (Anne Totin) The family of Dave Charnock (Lee Ann Wahl s boss) Terry Dillner (Anne Totin) Dan Donovan (Stepbrother-in-law of Laurie Sargent) Tim Gilmore (Stepbrother of Laurie Sargent) Joe Hackel (Anne Totin) Jeff & Marian Hawn Ruby Hess Cheryl Homistek (Anne Totin s cousin ) Marty Hoofnagle (Jane & John McCarty) Dave Koerber and family Jane McCarty Dick (Jane McCarty s Dad) Betty Oros (Dan Wahl) Jim Powell (friend of Jane McCarty) Doris Riddler Peg Samples Pat Sidman (diagnosis thyroid cancer) Jack and Fran Skelly Thornton Family (Karen Newman) Anne Totin Larry Wahl (Dan s father) Also, please remember in your prayers our members who are homebound: Geneva Cotter, C. D. Scheck, Jane A. Kropf
4 JOINT WORSHIP SERVICE On Sunday December 2nd, we will be joining with The Hills Church of Upper St. Clair for a joint worship service to begin Advent. John Vaught, Pastor, and his congregation will be with us at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church to usher in Advent. Plan to attend this exciting and inspiring service. Church Christmas Party Our annual Christmas Party will be held on Sunday, December 9th at 5:00 pm. We will have a Pot Luck Dinner with drinks and cake provided by the Evangelism/ Membership Team. Please bring a main dish or side dish. After dinner we will have a program in the Chapel including singing some Christmas carols and a Christmas Play. If you have been good this year, you can expect a visit from Santa with some goodies for all. Please bring your families and invite neighbors and friends (including children) for a fun time. If you study our Church's vision statement as listed in this newsletter you will find some important things we all should be doing. We need to center our lives on Christ. We need to pray and grow in our faith through our prayers. We can also grow in our faith through our worship services and individual worship and by studying the Bible. We need to reach out to others and provide services for others where we see the need. And lastly, as the Bible tells us, we should love one another and spread the love that God has shown us through Jesus to everyone we come in contact with in our daily lives. During this Advent and Christmas season, the Elders pray you all will feel the presence of the Lord in your daily lives as we celebrate his birth. PAPER RECYCLING Please continue to bring your paper for recycling to the church. As a reminder, the a Paper Retriever bin is in the back parking lot. This is a great way to get rid of all of those old papers, magazines, and those newspapers that just keep piling up while helping the church and the environment. Some of the items that CAN go into the bin are newspaper, magazines, junk mail, folders and notebooks. Please however do not put cardboard, phonebooks, or cereal boxes. These are not made of fibrous paper and therefore can t be recycled. Boxes are set up around the church like in the office and inside the door of the upstairs parking lot. If you need help bringing in your paper, the youth will be happy to help. Just look for a newspaper covered box labeled GO GREEN. Remember every page counts, so start saving your paper! VISION STATEMENT God's vision for Mt. Lebanon Christian Church (DOC) is that we be a Christ-centered church; growing in faith through prayer, worship, and Bible study; growing in service through outreach; growing in love through Fellowship. CHOIR ACTIVITIES December will be a very busy, yet exciting month for our Choir. On Friday, December 14, they will have their Choir Christmas Party at Ralph and Barb s house. On Sunday, December 16, they will be Christmas Caroling for the shut-ins. They will be leaving church after the Worship Service and a brief lunch. We usually are able to go to four different places. For this occasion you are very welcome to join the choir. On Sunday, December 23rd the choir will be singing their Christmas Program during worship. Have a Merry Christmas, Chuck Bieri, Director of Music

Some gifts you can give this Christmas are beyond monetary value: Mend a quarrel, dismiss suspicion, tell someone, "I love you." Give something away-- anonymously. Forgive someone who has treated you wrong. Turn away wrath with a soft answer. Visit someone in a nursing home. Apologize if you were wrong. Be especially kind to someone with whom you work. 6 CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE They say there s no place like home for Christmas. There s also no place like The Christmas Eve Service at Church for Christmas. Come join us as we celebrate again the greatest story that has ever been told and affirm that it s greatest beauty is that it is true. Be with your faith family on Christmas Eve, December 24th, at 7:00 pm. We will be having an inspiring service ending with our traditional Candlelight service. We will also have refreshments after the Service in the Chapel. Please bring something to eat that all will enjoy. Plan to be here. The message of Christmas is that God intrudes upon the weak and the vulnerable, and this is precisely the message that we so often miss. God does not come to that part of us that swaggers through life, confident in our self sufficiency. God leaves his treasure in the broken fragmented places of our life. God comes to us in those rare moments when we are able to transcend our own selfishness long enough to really care about another human being. On the wall of the museum of the concentration camp at Dachau is a large and moving photograph of a mother and her little girl standing in a line for a gas chamber. The child, who is walking in front of her mother, does not know where she is going. The mother, who walks behind, does know, but is helpless to stop the tragedy. In her helplessness she performs the only act of love left to her. She places her hands over the child's eyes so she will at least not see the horror to come. When people come into the museum they do not whisk by this photo hurriedly. They pause. They almost feel the pain. And deep inside I think that they are all saying: "0 God, don't let that be all that there is." God's hears those prayers and it is in just such situations of hopelessness and helplessness that his almighty power is born. It is there that God leaves his treasure. In Mary, and in all of us, as Christ is born anew within. With the Holiday season upon us, it is time to place your order for the poinsettias, which will beautifully decorate our sanctuary. The cost of the poinsettias will is $6.50. No orders will be taken after December 16, Complete the bottom of the order form and return it to the Deaconesses mailbox in the church office as soon as possible. Please make checks payable to the Board of Deaconesses, Mt. Lebanon Christian Church and enclose payment with your order. Name: Number of Poinsettias: Red: Pink: _ White: Total dollar amount of order: In Honor of: In Memory of: (PLEASE PRINT HOW YOU WISH THIS TO APPEAR IN THE BULLETIN)
