Lebanon Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 367 Cedar Boulevard Pittsburgh, PA Pastor: The Reverend Dr. Cindy McClung Worship Fellowship 9:15 AM CAYA (Contemporary) Worship 9:45 AM Sunday Morning Worship 11:00 AM PLEASE JOIN US! Christian Reporter Mt. Lebanon Christian March 2018 There is a lot happening at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church. Christian Education for all ages has begun on Sundays, the choir and bell choirs are rehearsing regularly on Sundays, Bible Study meets on Tuesday evening the Ladies Prayer group meets on Wednesday evenings. The Elders, Trustees and Board meet regularly and are hard at work. Plans for Vacation Bible School are underway, as well as plans for mission and outreach. The Sanctuary is being painted. The church is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to those around us. The kingdom of God is here on earth, not just in heaven. Through our worship, study, music, prayer, mission and care we witness to God s love for us and we strive to live in ways that are pleasing to God. The Vision Team is meeting, praying, and listening for where God is leading our congregation. We need your prayers. We will be asking for your input very soon as well. Please pray specifically about where we need to focus and how to reach others in the area. May God Bless us all on this journey together! In Christ, Cindy

4 LUNCH BUNCH Lunch Bunch will be held at T.G.I.F. on Oxford Drive. The date is to be determined and will be posted in the Bulletin. MUSICAL NOTES By Charles Bieri What is a Doxology? I would like to thank everyone who prayed, called, and sent cards during my recent illness. A special thanks to Reverend Dr. Cindy for her visit while I was in the ER. It is comforting to have such great Christian friends at a time when you are not 100%. Samaritan Fund Blessings to all, Barbara Scott The Samaritan is a fund at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church that helps those in need. The Samaritan fund was begun when the church received money from the estate of Anne Dumont. who died December 26, $3,500 was used to assist needy persons. The Trustees designated the balance of $10,000 as the Samaritan Fund. The $10,000 is to remain invested and the earnings used to assist the needy. The Fund is administered, in strict confidence, by our Minister. Donations to this fund are encouraged so that we may continue to help people in times of need. A memorial service was held on Saturday February 17th in memory of Peg Samples, who passed away on February 5th, We ask for your prayers for Bill and his family. A doxology is an expression of praise to God, especially, a short hymn sung as part of a Christian worship service. The word DOXOLOGY comes from the Greek DOXA, (Glory, splendor, grandeur) and logos, (word or speaking). Most doxologies are short hymns of praise to God in various Christian worship services. Many times they are added to the end of canticles, psalms, and hymns. Glory Patri, so named for its first two words in Latin, is commonly used as a doxology by The Roman Catholic and Protestant churches. It is called the Lesser Doxology, thus distinguished from the Great doxology, Glory in Excelsis Deo, and is often called simply the Doxology or Gloria Patri. The Latin text of the Lesser Doxology is Gloria Patri et Filio, et Spiritui, Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et simper, et in sacula saeculorum. Amen. Literally translated, it means Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. As well as praising God, this doxology is also a short declaration of faith of the Holy Trinity. Another commonly heard doxology is PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW, written in 1674 by Thomas Ken, a priest in the Church of England. The familiar words are: Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Although the word Doxology is not found in the Bible, the themes expressed in doxologies are certainly scriptural. Praising God for His blessings (Ephesians 1:3), ascribing to Him all glory (Romans 11:36) and affirming the Trinity (Matthew 28:19) have always been integral parts of true Christian worship.
5 March - SHIM - Sack Hunger Most Needed Items for SHIM's Food Pantries: Dried beans and lentils Pasta sauce in jars Condiments and spices Cereal Boxed rice dinners Baking products (flour, sugar, oil, mixes) Canned meat (chicken, chili, tuna) Beverages (juice, tea, coffee) Diapers sizes 3-6 Personal care items (shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine items, etc.) A single guy decides life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion, he finally bought a talking centipede, [100-legged bug], which came in a little white box to use for his house. He took the box back home, found a good location for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to church with him. So he asked the centipede in the box, "Would you like to go to church with me today? We will have a good time." But there was no answer from his new pet. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked him again. "How about going to church with me and receive blessings?" But, again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet. So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. He decided to ask him one more time; this time putting his face up against the centipede's house and shouting, "Hey in there! Would you like to go to church with me and learn about the Lord???" YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS.... A little voice came out of the box, "I heard you the first time!! I'm putting on my shoes. It was as if he were alone in his pain -- silent for the many hours he hung there, except for a very few words. But these 7 Last Words of Christ from the Cross provide a window into Jesus' soul, a way to understand through his own last words what is ultimately important to this One who is dying on the cross. 1. "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) 2. "This day you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43) 3. "Woman, behold your son."
