Parish Life Welcome Kaitlyn! My favorite saint would have to be St. Anthony, because I tend to misplace things. Sometimes I like to call myself a little bit too organized, that I cannot find things because I reorganized and moved it again. However, in the end what I am looking for always turns up and usually where I already looked after praying to St. Anthony. After hours, I enjoy coming home to my dog (Isaboo). I am always working on some project (remodeling). Everything can look a little better with a fresh coat of paint, stain or you name it. My favorite Drink would have to be water, plus it is necessary for health. I am currently reading, Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby Just recently, I was on my first airplane to China and came to realize I really like to travel. I loved going to China and getting to experience the difference in culture. As pictured, I visited the Catholic Church in Ningbo, China. The beach is also at the top of my list for traveling. A nice morning run on the beach and relaxing in a beach chair with a book is always a great way to distress from everyday life. Welcome Sally! My favorite saint is St. Teresa of Calcutta because of her unending love of God and mankind. Since she lived during my lifetime, it was even more special to see firsthand of her love and tenderness to the poorest of poor. After hours, I enjoy being with my sweet grandchildren (7 year old triplets). They are the light of my life. I also like to take long walks, play sudoku and watch Cardinal baseball games. My favorite drink is iced tea but I also like an occasional glass of Merlot. I am currently reading "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. If you are a dog lover, like myself, this is a great read. More about Sally... My husband and I have moved twice across country, so I have seen many states. One of my favorite cities is Salt Lake City. Very majestic. I also enjoy the Pacific coastline. I'm looking forward to meeting new people in the parish and continuing my ministry as a secretary to the Catholic church. Since we've only lived in West Lafayette since May, everything is new. It is a blessing to work with this parish community. I am looking forward to helping make an impact on growing our parish and strengthening the community full of our love and faith. Jay (Sally s husband), Sally, Harry, Penny & Oscar blessedsacramentwl.org Sept PAGE 2

We are Disciples: Learning, Loving & Living Christ s Mission This Week: Be a Doer My dear brothers & sisters in Christ, Be doers of the word and not hearers only! -St. James As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Those are powerful words spoken last Sunday by Joshua. I am always inspired by the ways in which people discern to serve the Lord. For each one of us who chose to follow the Lord we have our own unique story, just like Joshua. Our goal at Church of the Blessed Sacrament is to constantly share our faith-jesus stories. Evangelization We have been very intentional with our budget and resources in order to become a more invitational parish & to help you grow and live out your faith. ALPHA Praise & Worship Night The implementation of the Connect Group & BETA (after ALPHA opportunities) New Family Based Faith Formation model Upcoming Perpetual Adoration Chapel These are all ways in which we are taking action as a parish in order that individuals may encounter Christ, share their faith story and become disciples. Our Staff: Mission, Vision & Purpose After attending the Divine Renovation Conference in June, our parish staff has been more focused than ever on our Mission, Vision & Purpose. In an effort to continue to grow and take action, we have exciting staff updates: I would like to welcome Stephanie Snyder, Sally Ross and Kaitlyn Callahan to our staff. Stephanie Snyder is our Notre Dame ECHO apprentice. She replaces Sarah Jesse who completed her time with us in May. Stephanie will be on staff for 2 years while working towards her Masters degree. We are tremendously excited to welcome Stephanie with her many gifts and talents! Sally Ross joins us as our new part-time secretary. She replaces Linda Post, who needed to take a step back from working in order be more present for her mother and family. You can still find Linda volunteering on Mondays in the parish office! Sally moved here from Oregon, where she worked as a parish secretary for over 10 years! It is our hope that Sally, with her experience, will assist us in providing a welcoming presence, organizational skills, and an understanding of Church operations which will keep us faithful to our mission. Kaitlyn Callahan is a parishioner who felt called to something greater after being involved with our Youth and Alpha Leadership Team. She will assume Missy Krockover s position of Director of Formation, Mission & Discipleship. She will also assume some of the responsibilities of our former Faith Formation Coordinator. Kaitlyn has been engaged in the life of our parish since she registered. She brings a great educational background and a servants heart. She has a strong desire to serve God and His Church. Missy Krockover will become Executive Director: Parish Life & Administration. Missy has been All In since I began at Church of the Blessed Sacrament. If you have not noticed, she has unending energy, which I am convinced flows from her deep love for Christ and His Church. She will assist me in overseeing the day to day operations and providing guidance to Kaitlyn Callahan and Dan McCarty, Director of Administration & Worship, in their leadership roles as well as mentoring Stephanie Snyder. My dear brothers & sisters in Christ, I invite you to consider ways in which you can become a doer of the Word. How can you take action in your faith life? My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Be a Doer as we Learn, Love, & Live Christ s Mission! Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Pray for us! Fr. Ted Dudzinski, Pastor blessedsacramentwl.org Sept PAGE 3

Moment in Time by Missy FAITH FORMATION Why the Change? Our Faith has always been supported by four pillars. 1st pillar Liturgy: Everything we do flows from the Eucharist & returns to the Eucharist. Without Sunday Mass, our Catholic faith is not fully passed along. 2nd pillar Family: In the family, we learn our most important values, life lessons & virtues. Families have always been integral to passing on the faith to the next generation. 3rd pillar Christian Community: Christian Community helps & challenges us to live the Gospel message in our daily lives. In community we love God & one another. 4th pillar Religious Education: Religious Education has taken many forms throughout our 2000 year history, but in every age, it has always served the other three pillars. Family Based Formation Strengthens ALL 4 Pillars Thank you for your commitment to faith & family. We are excited for our future! - Missy Krockover (Church Lady) blessedsacramentwl.org Sept PAGE 5

Evangelization Youth Confirmation Parent Meeting: We just held our Parent Meeting for this Years Confirmation Class. Their Parents got to meet the Confirmation Team, hear about Youth ALPHA & the Confirmation Curriculum, and listen to a previous years confirmation parent panel with Q and A! Come this September we are ready to follow in the footsteps of Jesus while we build a relationship with him and our peers! We appreciated all the preparation that the team did for this meeting including bringing in parents from last year s class to share their experience. It was helpful to have their perspective. Armed with all of these details we feel that this year will flow more easily, and we will be able to enjoy the preparation along with our child. We are looking forward to working as a family in serving our parish and community as our child prepares for this sacrament. Beth and Scott Chandler We were provided with the schedule and the student requirements for the whole year which was great for planning ahead! I was excited to see that there are several learning and serving opportunities planned for the kids to do as well as some retreats as I have heard these are very meaningful for the kids. I was also excited to see that Youth Alpha will be a part of the curriculum as I have an older son that participated in this and really enjoyed it. -Corry Voll I found the Confirmation parent meeting to be very informative. Sean and his team laid out the entire program so that the kids and parents know what s expected ahead of time. The class itself, seems very thorough and should prepare the kids for the sacrament of confirmation. We, as a family, are very excited for our son to complete the class and be confirmed. -Shari Sonstein Calling All 9th-12th Graders! Youth ALPHA Begings Sunday, Sept. 9th from 9:15-10:45AM Do you ever feel like you re missing something? Do you wonder what the church can really do for you? Do you have doubts or questions about the faith and not know where to turn? Do you desire a community that cares about you personally and where you belong? Come to Alpha! Church of the Blessed Sacrament is excited to role out its 2nd session of Youth ALPHA. Any & all high school students are welcome, whether you are a cradle catholic, convert, of a different faith background or no faith at all. Come and share in community, food, and discussion. We will begin every session with a delicious breakfast, get together in small groups, watch an engaging and entertaining video series and then discuss it with our peers in your small group. We will have discussion in a safe environment where you don t have to know it all, where you can share your doubts and challenges and where there are no wrong questions and no wrong answers. There is also our Alpha Weekend away which we will spend together at Camp Tecumseh which will serve as our Confirmation Students Confirmation Retreat! blessedsacramentwl.org Sept PAGE 6

Dan s Desktop Praise & Worship Night Our first Praise & Worship Night was a tremendous success and I want to offer a big Thank You to everyone who joined us! With our voices raised and our hearts open in invitation, the Holy Spirit filled us with His grace and joy. One of my favorite moments from the evening was looking out to see a woman with her head raised, eyes closed, and both hands over her heart singing her love to the Lord. It took my breath away and I thank God for letting me be a part of that moment. How do you cap an already great time of song and prayer? By spending the next few hours in fellowship! The Kona Ice was a big hit with everyone and many enjoyed the face paint, clowns and games, not to mention those delicious tamales! I d like to thank Caroline Karanja for sharing her beautiful testimony; Rat Pak DJ s for helping with sound; the tamale crew and Subway for supplying the food; all the many disciples and staff members who helped put it together; and a huge thanks to Caleb, Theresa, Jim, and Daniel for sharing your musical gifts with us. We came together to sing and pray and share our lives with each other, so what is next? How do we take the spirit of Praise & Worship Night into the world and live it more completely? By sharing it with others. Share your story of P&W Night with those who were not there, share with them how the Holy Spirit filled you and moved you. Let them know how you felt while singing or what touched your heart during Caroline s witness. Share your joy and love of Jesus with others and invite them to the next P&W Night or to the upcoming Alpha session that begins in a few short weeks. God bless you all with grace and peace, Dan McCarty See more pictures on our website & Facebook page! blessedsacramentwl.org Sept PAGE 9
