FROM DESK God has been stirring my heart a great deal in the area of discipleship. I truly feel the Holy Spirit is moving within our church to take us to a new level of ministry. Connecting with one another through the Word and Christian Fellowship was foundational in the early church. Acts chapter 2 records the events that unfolded on the day of Pentecost. If we are to grow ourselves and the body of Christ, " we must follow" a biblical example in order for this to happen. I am asking for support in attendance, prayer and effort in bringing our whole church together for the cause of Jesus. Pastor Mark Terrill Seymour Church of the Nazarene CELEBRATES 50 YEARS Past, Present and Future! October 18 th we will be having an all afternoon celebration. The church will be providing a luncheon for everyone following the morning service. At 2:00 pm our 50 th Year Anniversary Celebration will commence in the sanctuary. We will have three speakers that afternoon: Pastor Larry Duckworth talking about the past, Pastor Mark Terrill speaking about our present and Rev. Mark Bane talking about our future. Around 3:30 we will continue our celebration back in the gym with a reception and time OCTOBER 2015 of fellowship. This is going to be a joyous day of remembrance and thanksgiving to God for all His goodness He has bestowed on Seymour Nazarene all these years and also for looking forward to a blessed future. If you have church pictures you d like to share from these past 50 years or would like to help in the celebration, please contact Connie or Kati Roberts. Please write your name on the back of each picture you share, so they can be easily returned to you. LADIES RETREAT -Sue Terrill The Seymour Nazarene 4 th Annual Ladies Retreat will be held on October 10 th, Doors will open at 9:00 am for our ladies to enjoy a light breakfast and coffee bar. We will have our own ladies who will be setting up vendors table in the gym to sell their homemade crafts & goods. So come early and enjoy a time of shopping or just enjoy the fellowship. There will be a class of your choice to enjoy not only for learning and but also for some wonderful fellowship. Our speaker is Donna Mikhail. She will be bringing us an encouraging message. " This hope we have as an anchor for the soul, is both strong & steadfast. Hebrews. 6:19 It's still not too late to register. We have plenty of room. It s my prayer that every lady that enters this church will feel God's love that day. So as we make our count down to the retreat, I ask every lady to start praying for an out pouring of God's Spirit through the teachers, helpers (our youth who will be serving), our speaker and especially every lady that comes that day. Let us be a light house in this community. For more 1

information or just have a question please see Cara Simmons, Kati Roberts or myself, Sue Terrill. Mission Moments - Delilah Johnson It s been a busy month with missions. Thanks to all who participated in our special offering that we took up on September 13 to pay our NMI budgets through the district. We raised $1, which will pay our LINKS, Missionary Christmas Fund, Children s and Youth Project that will help translate My Church, a book designed for younger children and teaches them the basic beliefs of Nazarene theology, into different languages and pays our Work & Witness funds all in full. We took up this offering this year in order to do something different than we had been doing through the auction for several years. Thanks again, your mission support helps others around the globe. Sunday, September 27 we took up our Alabaster offering and raised over $500 that goes to thousands of churches, schools, medical facilities and homes that have or will be built. Because of each and every coin that we save for these offerings twice a year, we are making a difference in one soul at a time and in the Kingdom. Keep up the great work! We ll take up our next Alabaster offering in February 2016, so start saving those coins once again. If you need an Alabaster cup for your offerings, you can get one of these at the Information Booth in the foyer! Our next offering that we will take up will be on November 22 for our World Evangelism Fund or WEF. What Is the World Evangelism Fund? The World Evangelism Fund is the cooperative genius of the mission enterprise of the Church of the Nazarene. It is based on the concept that we can do more working together than could ever be done working alone. Why do we have World Evangelism Fund? Missions in the Church of the Nazarene is a large enterprise. To accomplish the Great Commission, spreading the gospel and the message of holiness around the world, requires money. In "faith-based" missions, missionaries must spend valuable time raising financial support. They conduct services, take offerings, receive pledges of support, and then pray the amount raised covers living expenses. Sometimes if the money runs out, missionaries are forced to return home. In this type of support, churches do not always share equally in the mission work. Larger churches are sometimes visited by more missionaries than they could possibly help, while some smaller churches are overlooked. The World Evangelism Fund was created to allow missionaries to work more effecttively and to encourage all churches to support missions. The World Evangelism Fund goes directly toward accomplishing the mission of the Church of the Nazarene, to make Christ-like disciples in the nations. The World Evangelism Fund is the funding that operates the Church of the Nazarene and its entire mission effort, from the operation of the Global Ministry Center to districts and churches around the world. How does the World Evangelism Fund work? Full-time missionaries (excluding volunteers) in the Church of the Nazarene receive a monthly paycheck based on a standard amount plus a cost-of-living adjustment. Missionaries also receive medical insurance, a pension provision, and other items (such as housing and travel costs). The World Evangelism Fund comes from the generosity of Nazarenes around the world. Each church is challenged to contribute an assigned apportionment, but many, seeing the effectiveness of the world mission enterprise, choose to overpay. The Benefits Of The World Evangelism Fund Missionaries They receive a regular paycheck, freeing them from the added worry of raising finances. Missionaries still write letters and conduct deputation services to inform people of happenings in their field of service; however, such activities do not consume a large portion of their time on the mission field. Churches Regardless of size, each church has the opportunity to take part in the global mission endeavor. Also, just as individuals are blessed by God when they commit a portion of their resources for His kingdom, so churches are blessed when they allocate funds to help reach the lost around the world. If we ALL do our part for the Great ComMISSION [Matthew 28:19-20], how many more lost lives can we help get to heaven through our obedience and our giving! There s no greater sacrifice that we can give than our offerings to the Lord! 2

APPRECIATION MONTH October is Pastors Appreciation Month and a good time to express your love and encouragement to our Pastors and their wives by sending notes, cards or even little gifts of appreciation. Below are addresses if you would like to send cards and notes of appreciation directly to their homes throughout the month. THE MEN S MINISTRY -Jack Duggar The Men's Group will be meeting on Tuesday, October 13 th at 6:30 for potluck with devotion to follow. Bring a friend and come prepared to enjoy yourself with good food and a devotion. Food for thought: A Need For Grace The need for grace is the problem of sin and the problem of sin cannot be solved by the efforts of man. Nothing you do can cancel out the problem of sin. Except repentance and putting your faith in Jesus. Our September MFH meeting was a lot of fun. We had a devotion on times, when it is better as a woman, to BE QUIET and just listen. (Of course our homeschool meetings are not one of those times: ) We also discussed the differenvce between hearing people talk and really litsening to them. Learning to be quiet and listen is certainly a godly virtue worth attaining if you are going to truly minister and be a comfort to others. The Moms were in a cooking mood that night too, the food was fabulous! This month we are having DINNER OUT! So mark your calnendars and get your babysitters, because Monday, October 12 th at all homeschool Moms are invited to go to Springfield to Freddy s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers for a fun night out. Meet at the church at 5:00 pm and we will car pool. If you know ladies in the area who are homeschooling, please invite them to come andalso tell them about our meetings every second Monday of 3

the each month. For more information contact Gail Tippel. CAMP FUNDRAISING WILL BEGIN SOON! Be watching for more information. -Sarah Kelly Children and Teen Bible Quizzers are working very hard, please keep them in your prayers! THE WOMEN S MINISTRY Larissa Embrey We will be moving our meetings to Wednesday nights 7-8:00 pm starting October 21 st. I m calling the class, Women of Faith and every month will be a new topic. Satan will get no glory this night, because we are going to shine God s Light out into the world. Invite your friends and neighbors and come GLOW with us! TEEN MINISTRY -Grady Bennett Following the Children s Glow Party October 31 st the Teens will be having a hayride and a bonfire. BRING YOUR FRIENDS! This is going to be FUN!!! The September Men s Cook out and Friend s Day were a huge success and everyone had a great time. Let s continue reaching out with the love of Christ because God does not wish for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 WEDNESDAYANIGHT DINNERS are served from 5:00 to 6:45 pm and are by donation only. 5 NEW WEDNESDAY NIGHT CONNECT GROUPS Beginning Wednesday night, October 21 st we will be starting Connect Groups. We will meet in the sanctuary at 7:00 pm as normal for announcements and then be released to go to our separate little Connect Bible Study Groups. The purpose for this change is: to meet the varying needs of the body of Christ, to develop a more intimate discipleship type environment, to enhance our fellowship by getting to know each other better. Within the next couple of weeks there will be information coming out about all the classes being offered, so check your bulletins. Some of you may have some misgivings about having to deal with something new. Change is not bad, just different. After a few weeks, this little change on Wednesday night won t even feel different. It will start feeling quite normal, as you begin enjoying the comforts of a smaller group setting and the joys of closer fellowship. -Luke Wright Many kids today are unfamiliar with the outdoors. Cross Trail Outfitters (CTO) is changing that by providing an opportunity to get them outdoors and teach them about our hunting and fishing heritage, while sharing our faith. We want kids to know that life is different than what they see on TV or in video games. There s a life out in God s creation, and CTO is all about Guiding the next generation to Christ through the outdoors. We provide the mentorship, training and assets for kids to go hunting and fishing, while ensuring a wholesome and fun environment in which participants can grow in knowledge and reverence of God. CTO is a youth hunting and fishing club primarily for boys and young men age We are "Building Men, Preserving our Heritage and Sharing our Faith." We offer a wide range of year-round outdoor activities including hunting and fishing trips and the coolest Summer Camps in the world! There are also opportunities for families and girls to participate in some CTO activities. Outings and events are open to both members and nonmembers. The CTO Seymour Chapter is just getting started, and you can get in on the ground floor of bringing CTO to this community. We will be meeting every 3 rd Monday of each month at 6:30 pm at Seymour Church of the Nazarene. Big Buck Contest $20 per entry gun or bow $40 per entry for both This is a Fundraiser Event! All proceeds will go to CTO Seymour Chapter. First place for bow and gun are Bass Pro Gift Cards. SEYMOUR FAITH ACADEMY 5

Please keep the Faith Academy in your prayers as God continues to guide and direct each step towards completion. Thank you and God Bless!. Steve and Sandy Bauhnmiller DISCIPLESHIP -Gail Tippel The anticipation of this last lunar eclipse (of the tetrad of the four blood moons ) on Sunday night, September 27 th, brought anxiousness to many around the country. Some thought the world might come to an end; others, that the Lord was coming back that night; and still others, that some apoca-lyptic event might happen. As Christians, we must learn to filter everything through the Scriptures to see what is TRUTH. So, in view of Scripture, let s see if any of these notions were possible. The World Ending??? Matthew 24 states there will be wars and rumors of wars and nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes and since we see all those things it might seem reasonable that with all the talk of the tetrad of four blood moons occurring on Jewish Feast Days it must be a sign of the end. However, Scripture says in Matthew 24:6, see that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. The Lord Returning??? According to Joel 2:31, "The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. So a blood looking moon is connected to the return of the Lord. In fact, the great and terrible Day of the Lord will be when Jesus returns in Glory as King and plants His feet on the Mount of Olives. But that happens at the end of the 7 year Tribulation period ( also known as the 70 th week of Daniel or Jacobs Trouble), which has not come to pass yet. 2 Thessalonians 2:2-4 says the Day of the Lord can t happen until the falling away (apostasy) and the antichrist is revealed. That hasn t happened yet either. Plus, the return of the Lord to the earth does not precede His return in the clouds for His Church and the church is still here, so that notion was not possible either. An Apocalyptic Event??? Yes, some apocalyptic event is always a possibility as we daily progress towards the Day of our Lord s return. But America is still here, still accruing debt and is still without any major form of civil unrest so we praise God and live to occupy another day to His glory. As Christians, we must find our baseline of truth to live out each day, ALWAYS in the Holy Scriptures. It makes all the difference. Then we will not be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine, the latest book on the Best Seller list or by any proclamation of man set to tickle our ears or bring anxiety to our souls. We must read the Word, study the Word, live the Word, and then share the Word. Discipleship will teach you how to filter the information that flows through your life in the light of Scripture in order to attain a sober, alert, and stable Christian walk. Discipleship will help you to grow and mature spiritually so that you will not only be ready when the Lord comes in the clouds to take His Church home, but will enable you to snatch many from the fire so they ll be ready too. Join a Sunday school class, get involved in the new Wednesday night Connect Groups, and even consider a one-on-one discipleship class. BE DISCIPLED TODAY TO BE A DISCIPLER TOMORROW! If you are interested in one-on-one discipleship, to dig deeper into the Word, learn how to follow Jesus, get your biblical questions answered, or learn exactly what the Gospel message is and how to share it, then please contact Bevan or Gail Tippel to schedule a time to meet each week. Men seeking one-on-one discipleship can contact Bevan at twotippels@yahoo.com and women can contact Gail at lindagail137@yahoo.com. A Lord, make me a crisis man. Let me not be a mile-post on a single road, but make me a fork that men must turn one way or another in facing Christ in me. ~ Jim Elliot 6
