It is an honor to have you worshipping with us. You may find the worship of the Ancient Church very different. We welcome your questions. Please join us for our Reception held in the Church Hall immediately following the Divine Liturgy. We understand Holy Communion to be an act of our unity in faith. While we work toward the unity of all Christians, it regrettably does not now exist. Therefore, only baptized Orthodox Christians (who have properly prepared) are permitted to participate in Holy Communion. However, everyone is welcome to partake of the blessed bread that is distributed at the end of the service. We look forward to meeting you during the Reception that follows the service. Troparion of St. Artemios Tone 4 Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for thee, received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since thou art merciful. Troparion of St. Elijah, p 26 F Kontakion of the Theotokos Tone 2 O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most constant: O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned, but be thou quick, O good one to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee. Hasten to intercession, and speed thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee. G H The Thrice-Holy Hymn THE READINGS THE EPISTLE Make your vows and pay them to the Lord our God. God is known in Judaea, his name is great in Israel! The reading is from St. Paul s Second Epistle to the Corinthians (6:16-7:1) Brethren, you are a temple of the living God; even as God has said: I will dwell in them, and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; and I will receive you, and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, O beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. THE GOSPEL From the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke (8:26-39) At that time, Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. And as he stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me. For Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was

3 kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.) Jesus then asked him, What is your name? And he said, Legion ; for many demons had entered him. And they begged Jesus not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged Jesus to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked Jesus to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into a boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with Jesus; but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to your home, and declare all that God has done for you. And he went away, proclaiming through the whole city all that Jesus had done for him. 6 Sunday School Scoop We ask that all students move to the back of the church following the Communion Prayer to line up. A couple things to remember: - PLEASE! Parents do not need to line up with their kids. We are short on space and extra bodies add to the chaos! - Parents of Pre-K and Kindergarten students should pick their children up AT THEIR CLASSROOM after church. - Please join us in being flexible and understanding as we adjust to our new sanctuary for the coming weeks. - If you have yet to enroll you children for the year, please visit their classroom and give the information to their teachers. The dates have been set for Winter Camp (aka WAMP)! Mark your calendars for January Registration forms and more info will be coming soon! Attention SOYO Hummus specialists! We will be working during Teen Chats on October 30 th to package the hummus for the Bake Sale! Please make plans to join us and help finish the job! Teen Chats this Wednesday! We will meet from 7 to 8:30 in the Teen Room! Please note the new ending time!
