All are welcome! Please join us! Stitches from the Heart We have started giving out our blankets to babies who are receiving the Sacrament of Baptism and to those who are sick. If you know anyone who is in need of a blanket please call the parish office. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 26th, at 7PM. Even if you do not know how to crochet, come and learn! All are welcome! Donate your eye glasses The Knights of Columbus are collecting used eye glasses during the month of September. In turn we donate these to the Eye s for the Needy who since 1932 provided clear vision to over 8 million people in the United States and throughout te world. We thank all that have contributed. We appreciate all your support. Reflections First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9 God s transcendence makes for an entirely different perspective on reality than ours as creatures. Second Reading: Philippians 1:20c-24,27a Paul acknowledges that after his baptism he has died to his former life and now lives entirely for Christ. Death will intensify his union with Christ. Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16a The parable is really about God s generosity and not about wage distribution. The men hired first feel cheated by the master s decision to give the same pay to those hired late in the day. One thinks of deathbed conversions getting into the same heaven as lifelong believers.

We will say a solemn Rosary, Rosary beads and books will be available, and we will also have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. After each decade we will sing a hymn to the Blessed Mother. Then join us in the Parish Hall for refreshments. The Blessing of the Animals To commemorate the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, St. William s Annual Blessing of the Animals will be held on Saturday, October 7th, at 10AM, on the parish lawn, by the Blessed Mother s Prayer Garden (if raining we will move inside). All are invited to bring your beloved pets and animals for a blessing. Please invite your friends and neighbors, even if they are not members of our parish. Join us as we thank God for His gift of the beautiful creatures that share our lives and bring joy and delight to our hearts.

5 September 24, 2017 Page 4 Feast Day of the Archangels, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael The liturgy celebrates the feast of these three archangels who are venerated in the tradition of the Church. Michael (Who is like God?) was the archangel who fought against Satan and all his evil angels, defending all the friends of God. He is the protector of all humanity from the snares of the devil. Gabriel (Strength of God) announced to Zachariah the forthcoming birth of John the Baptist, and to Mary, the birth of Jesus. His greeting to the Virgin, Hail, full of grace, is one of the most familiar and frequent prayers of the Christian people. Raphael (Medicine of God) is the archangel who took care of Tobias on his journey. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that, [T] he existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that Sacred Scripture usually calls angels is a truth of faith. The witness of Scripture is as clear as the unanimity of Tradition. Angels are pure, created spirits. The name angel means servant or messenger of God. Angels are celestial or heavenly beings, on a higher order than human beings. Angels have no bodies and do not depend on matter for their existence or activity. They are distinct from saints, which men can become. Angels have intellect and will, and are immortal. They are a vast multitude, but each is an individual person. Archangels are one of the nine choirs of angels listed in the Bible. In ascending order, the choirs are 1) Angels, 2) Archangels, 3) Principalities, 4) Powers, 5) Principlaiteis, 6) Dominions, 7) Thrones, 8) Cherubim, and 9) Seraphim. Remember to Pray this Prayer to St. Michael St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Shopping Pass We will be selling 25% off discount shopping passes for a day of shopping at Boscov s. They will be good for shopping on Tuesday, October 187h, from 9AM to 11PM. We will be selling them after all the Masses and in the Parish Office. The passes are a $5 donation and all the money benefits St. William. Please buy one and support our Parish! For more information please call the office. 27th Annual Life Chain The 27th Annual Life Chain will take place from 2:30 to 3:30PM on Sunday, October 1st, at St. Veronica Church. Life Chain is an annual nation-wide event of peaceful and prayerful public witness against abortion and for greater respect for all human life. Pro-life witnesses will be forming a Life Chain along Rt. 9 in front of St. Veronica s rectory. Signs will be available. Please join us and stand up for life! The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) prepares adults for full reception into the Catholic Church. An Invitation: We welcome you into our Parish, and into the Catholic Church! If you are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, please consider our RCIA PROGRAM. In these classes, teens and adults learn about the Catholic tradition, and prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Non-baptized adults, baptized persons from other Christian communities, and baptized Catholics who have not received Eucharist or Confirmation are all welcome to be a part of our program. If married, Catholic spouses are invited to come as well. Have questions about the Catholic faith? How does one become a Catholic? Talk to us! We meet once each week, Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8PM, at the church. Classes this year will begin on Tuesday, September 26th. There is no cost to you.
