We are not always sure what this means. Only by meeting the Lord face-to-face will we know what it means to be like him. The Gospel gives us a standard we must aim for when seeking the Lord the Beatitudes. Our happiness comes when we are on target. 3 From the Desk of Father George Kuforiji Matthew 5:1-12a By Deacon Owen Cummings The Beatitudes from the Lord's Sermon on the Mount form our Gospel reading for the solemnity of All Saints. Each beatitude reflects the present order in the first part, even as it looks to the final consummation in the second. Earth and heaven are brought into conjunction. This is really what Jesus is: earth and heaven in one Person. In reality the Beatitudes describe the person of Jesus himself. The Anglican New Testament scholar, R. H. Fuller, puts it nicely when he says, "He was all the things and did all the things the beatitudes enumerate." He is the one who is really poor in spirit. The reign of God is his. In fact, as Origen of Alexandria put it, he is the reign of God in person, he is autobasileia. He is lowly, he hungers and thirsts for holiness, he shows mercy. Jesus is single-hearted, focused on his Father, is the peacemaker par excellence, and, above all else, is the one who is persecuted for holiness' sake. All saints are saints in Christ. Without him there is no existence, nor holiness. In the Litany of Saints we formally note those women and men whose lives and witness exemplify the Beatitudes of the Blessed One in whom they have flourished, and in whom we too are called to flourish. 2003, OCP. Julie and Tom Lindstrom, and Kathleen Stadelman went all out in cleaning the storage room outside the church. They also removed the pews in the confessional. Wow, these rooms look Great! Alice Stadelman did the first stage of cleaning the confessional a couple of weeks ago. A Big Thank You to Elaine Caldwell for all of her hard work in planning, shopping and setting up for the Halloween Party! Thank you to our loyal volunteers! You are appreciated!!!

4 Wednesday Night Dinner/Religious Education "'Thank you!' is the best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. 'Thank you!' expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding." ----Pulitzer-prize winning writer, Alice Walker This quote says volumes to me as the "best prayer" anyone could say. How on target that is--every week we have our hardworking, women and gentlemen doing whatever they can to advance our parish with feeding our people and cleaning up the kitchen and hall! Wow! Can we ever say, "Thank you," enough? Many times it is the same parishioners who carry the load for all of us. They share their gifts, talents, and hard work. The list for last Wednesday night's dinner deserves this "best prayer." Our chef was Johauna, "Joey," Hennick. Michael, Joey, and daughter, Allie, also sponsored the meal. Helpers were: Elaine Caldwell, Jim and Kathy Cowan, Francis and Alice Stadelman, Delfina White, Jennifer Schulz, and Allison Hundley. Say a "best prayer" to all of them! Religious Education classes for children and youth are progressing. It is fun to see what our catechists are doing. Molly Martin's fifth graders made dream catchers. (Remember Joseph interpreting dreams as a slave in Egypt?) The dream catchers even had colorful feathers. Our dedicated catechists, along with Molly, are Rose Garrett, Lisa Turner, and Mike Hennick, Sr. Say a "best prayer" to them, too! ----Sharon Hennick, DRE and Dinner Coordinator ************************************************************************************** Halloween Party Holy Trinity had a spooktacular Halloween Party on There were approximately 20 kids in attendance and about 10 adults, plus Father George (in costume) and his brother Francis. It was delightful to see the kids eating corn dogs, tater tots, chili, mac and cheese, hot dish, applesauce, Snicker salad, corn bread and chips. The games began after a parade to show off all the cute costumes. Everyone had a chance to win candy prizes playing the games. Elaine, our party person, outdid herself as usual with wonderful decorations and everything ready for the kids. The hall looked so festive. Elaine is just the BEST!! Helpers were Julie Lang, Sarah Miller, Elaine Caldwell, Elaine s daughter Laura Doffing, Lupe Converse, Stefanie Hanson, Delfina and Frank White, Tom and Julie Lindstrom, Mike Hennick, Father George and his brother Francis.
