For more information, contact Signe Kelker at Pentecost Collection Today: Our diocese has been blessed by a significant increase in the number of seminarians within the past several years. This increase in vocations is a sign of the spiritual health and vitality of the Church in our diocese. The funds raised support: Seminarians, Vocations, Priests Continuing Formation, Priest Study, Permanent Diaconate Continuing Formation, Supplemental Medical Expenses Attention all High School Seniors The Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary are sponsoring 2 scholarships for parish high school seniors. The applications are on the table in the back of the church until the weekend of May 26th and 27th. The scholarships will be awarded at the parish picnic on June 6 th. St. Mary s University, Emmitsburg, Md. Mark your calendar now and make your reservation in early June to ensure your place. It will be a great spiritual boost to share this special time with the men of our parish. Check vestibule for more information and/or contact Roger Waters The Knights of Columbus are selling raffle tickets after each Mass until June 3 rd. A member of the Knights of Columbus will have a table in the parking lot with tickets for sale, unless there is inclement weather and then they will be in the back of the church. The cost of the tickets are $5 each or a packet of 3 tickets for $10. The winning tickets will be drawn at the parish picnic on June 6 th (winner does not need to be present to win). Please consider helping out with this fund raiser for the Knights of Columbus. The proceeds support various parish activities to include scholarships for parish high school seniors and a seminarian (in conjunction with the ladies auxiliary) and in the past have been used to add the audio/visual system in the social hall, upgrade of the speaker system in the church, renovating the parish rectory and assist other parish organizations by supporting their causes. 4 Do you have some items around the house that you would like to get rid of and help a worthy cause? The Knights of Columbus is having a yard sale stand on Saturday June 2nd in Orrstown. A member of the Knights will be available after masses on the weekends of May 19th and 20th and May 26th and 27th to collect donated items. All items not sold at the sale will be disposed of unless expressly requested to be returned. In the month of May, we would like to honor the Blessed Mother. As Mary consented to God's plan, let us help those women who choose to say YES to life no matter what challenges may lie ahead. The Wild Flowers will be throwing a "baby shower" for the Pregnancy Ministries in Shippensburg. Pregnancy Ministries is a Christcentered ministry committed to applying and proclaiming the Gospel by demonstrating the love of Christ and upholding the sanctity of human life. We will be collecting new baby items from newborn up to 3T. There will be a playpen which has been donated set up in the back of the church to place donations. Community Fundraiser Benefitting CHRIST AMONG NEIGHBORS Wednesday, May 23, PM 8PM WENDY S 71 Conestoga Drive, Shippensburg 10% of the evening s proceeds will benefit Christ Among Neighbors ongoing mission of providing emergency assistance for rent, utilities, food and clothing to their clients in the Shippensburg Area School District. CAMP VOL_NTEERS...all that is missing is U! The Diocesan Summer Camp for Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities is seeking volunteers willing to assist at its residential camp, August 12-17, The camp takes place at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon County and serves the needs of approximately 40 adults. The camp has been held annually for the past 32 years, and is primarily dependent on volunteer support. Last year, volunteers from 21 parishes participated alongside volunteers from other faith communities to make this event a success. Anyone 16+ is welcome to volunteer for full-time or part-time duties; there is a particular need for male volunteers, 18 or older, who are able to spend the night, and for volunteers skilled at running an arts & crafts program. All volunteers are required to complete the Diocesan Clearance process and attend a brief training session prior to helping at camp. A deadline of June 30, 2018 for expressing volunteer interest is requested in order to facilitate planning efforts. Sponsor a Camper - Would you like to sponsor a campership for a person with a disability who might not otherwise be able to afford camp? The Diocese of Harrisburg is seeking donations to defray the cost for campers to ensure that each individual who would like to attend camp is able to do so, regardless of finances. A full week of camp costs $575, but donations in any amount will be welcomed. They can be sent to the Office of Ministry with People with Disabilities, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA Checks should be made payable to the Diocese of Harrisburg. Annulment Presentations The Tribunal of the Diocese of Harrisburg will be giving 2 presentations within the diocese concerning marriage, divorce and annulment according to Church teaching. These presentations will be helpful for divorced Catholics, those divorced who wish to marry Catholics, those parish leaders involved in the RCIA process and any others who may have a vested interest because of family and friends. PENNSYLVANIA CATHOLIC CONFERENCE The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference Institute for Public Policy brings together experts on Catholic issues to comment, reflect and shed the light of Catholic social teaching into the public debate about current affairs. The Institute s repository of articles, statements and resources is available on-line. 6 Forty Hours Eucharistic Devotions June 10-12, :00 PM each evening Preacher: Rev. Joseph Illo A Short Bio for Fr. Joseph Peter Illo Fr. Joseph Illo was born in the Bronx, New York, in He received a B.A. in English Literature from the Pennsylvania State University in 1983, worked at Ignatius Press in San Francisco and then studied at Blackfriars Studium, Oxford (England) before completing a philosophy degree at the Dominican University of St. Thomas ( the Angelicum ) in Rome. He received an M.A. in theology from St. Joseph s Seminary in New York and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Stockton, CA, in He has served in four parishes, one term as vocations director, and two years as chaplain at Thomas Aquinas College in Southern California. He is currently pastor at Star of the Sea parish in San Francisco. He has worked with Mother Teresa s Missionaries of Charity for fifteen years, giving retreats and seminars to them around the world. He belongs to two priestly fraternities, the St. John Fisher Society, and the Corpus Christi Movement for Priests of Mother Teresa, of which he serves as North American Counselor. Fr. Illo enjoys all outdoor sports, especially backpacking, skiing, cycling, kayaking, and snow camping. He especially treasures his brother priests, and all the good people from the assignments in which he has served. The OLV Pro-Life Ministry would like to warmly thank all those that support our Chicken Dinners. Your help is enabling us to reach out to many in our community. Through the loving efforts on the street outside Planned Parenthood, the life affirming options at local pregnancy resource centers and the unending support and mercy poured out for those suffering from previous abortion experiences, our group is present. This summer our group is hosting a pro-life booth at the Shippensburg Fair. In the fall we plan to bring a pro-life speaker to the parish. Our group has information on the latest infertility treatment and natural family planning both of which is respectful of Catholic Teaching.
