In your family the ordinary acts of eating together, touching, embracing not only confirm our love for each other, but also celebrate God s presence in your family. These ordinary moments contain the Extraordinary. Cherish and nurture those moments. THE GREATEST ASSET PRAY THE ROSARY The Rosary will be prayed following Tuesday Morning Mass at Sacred Heart. The intention is for the men and women serving proudly around the world in our armed forces and for their families who carry a heavy load at home in their absence. REGINA CAELI V. Amen. * During the Easter Season the Angelus is replaced with the Regina Caeli at 12 Noon and 6 PM. The prayer was composed by Pope Gregory V who died in 998 A.D. If you know of someone who would like a visit from Monsignor to bring Holy Eucharist and have their confessions heard, please give the parish office a call and we will be happy to make arrangements. We continue to be blessed with wonderful Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who make regular visits to the homebound and those in nursing homes. Their ministry is a very special one, and your works are very much appreciated. PARISH CRAFT GROUP The Crafty Hearts are busy working on some beautiful Mother s Day corsages that they will be offering for sale after Mass on Mother s Day at Sacred Heart. The corsages are sure to please any Mom...they will be sold for just $ 5.00 each. The proceeds from the sale will continue to assist missionary charities. If you would like to help out, the group meets each Wednesday following 9 AM Mass in Kent.

3 THE THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER The Parish Council will meet this Monday, April 16th at 6:30 PM at the Parish Rectory. If you are a parishioner with questions or concerns, please speak with one of the member representatives prior to the meeting. They are: Martha Lane, Joan Davis, Terese Abbott, Ray Frechette, Bob Papsin, Dave Heacox, Eileen Gargan, Lisa Pedersen, Tom Bartram and Paul Cortese. Retrouvaille provided tools to communicate better, resolve conflicts fairly, and re-discover why you fell in love. The program is offered locally three times a year. The next weekend is April For information call or cherylandsteve@cox.net, or visit the website at A MASS OF REMEMBRANCE FOR OUR CHILDREN The Mass of Remembrance is a time for reflection on the lives of our children who have died from any cause. The causes are numerous but the resulting emotions of pain, longing, and sorrow are the same. Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and often overlooked losses is of miscarriage. Too frequently it is seen as less than other deaths of children, but for those who have experienced miscarriage, it is no less painful. Parents wish these children to be remembered and the Mass of Remembrance provides this opportunity. You are invited to join us in praying for children who have died by miscarriage, illness, or any cause, and for their families who continue to mourn their loss. Join us on The Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. TWO HEARTS PREGNANCY CARE CENTER Thank you for your many lovely and generous donations to the Two Hearts Pregnancy Care Center in Torrington. We remind you that the donation box is located inside the side entrance of Sacred Heart. Donations of layettes, disposable diapers, baby wipes, baby blankets, gently used winter one piece snowsuits, gently used baby clothing, and bedding items are all needed and gratefully accepted. Please note that car seats, cribs, baby carriers, and strollers cannot be accepted here. Many thanks. 4 SHOES IN CHURCH I showered and shaved and I adjusted my tie. I got there and sat in a pew just in time. Bowing my head in prayer as I closed my eyes. I saw the shoe of the man next to me touching my own. I sighed. With plenty of room on either side I thought, 'Why must our soles touch? It bothered me tremendously, his shoe touching mine, but it didn't seem to bother him much. A prayer began: 'Our Father'... I thought this man with the shoes has no pride. They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side! Thank You for blessings, the prayer went on. The shoe man said a quiet Amen. I tried to focus on the prayer but my thoughts were on his shoes again. Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door? Well, this certainly isn't it, I thought, glancing toward the floor. Then the prayer was ended and the songs of praise began. The shoe man was certainly loud, sounding proud as he sang. His voice lifted the rafters and his hands were raised high. The Lord could surely hear the shoe man's voice from the sky. It was time for the offering and what I threw in was steep. I watched as the shoe man reached into his pockets so deep. I saw what was pulled out, what the shoe man put in. Then I heard a soft clink. As when silver hits tin. The sermon really bored me to tears, and that's no lie. It was the same for the shoe man for there w e r e s i l e n t t e a r s f e l l f r o m h i s e y e s. At the end of the service as is the custom here, we must greet new visitors, and show them all good cheer. But I felt moved somehow and wanted to meet the shoe man. So after the closing prayer I reached over and shook his hand. He was old and his skin was dark and his hair was truly a mess. But I thanked him for coming for being our guest. He said, my name is Charlie, I'm glad to meet you, my friend. There were tears in his eyes but he had a large, wide grin. Let me explain, he said, wiping tears from his eyes. 'I've been coming here for months and you're the first to say hi. I know that my appearance is not like all the rest, but I really do try to always look my best; I always clean and polish my shoes before my very long walk, but by the time I get here they're dirty and dusty, like chalk. My heart filled with pain and I swallowed to hide my tears, as he continued to apologize for daring to sit so near. He said; When I get here 'I know I must look a sight, but I thought if I could touch you, then maybe our souls might unite. I was silent for a moment knowing whatever was said would pale in comparison. I spoke from my heart, not my head. Oh, you've touched me, I said and taught me, in part; that the best of any man is what is found in his heart. The rest, I thought, this shoe man will never know. Like just how thankful I really am that his dirty old shoe touched my soul.

GIFT PROGRAM ~ This Sunday, April 15th is the last session for this school year and begins with Mass at 10 AM. FIRST COMMUNION: 2nd graders will meet for a snow day make up class on Monday, April 30th from 3:30-4:30 at Sacred Heart. We extend our thanks to all of our Religious Education Instructors for their dedication to teaching the Catholic Faith to our young students throughout this school year.
